  • Patent number: 7408872
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a modulator for modulating signals. The signals are to be transmitted by a device in packets via an air interface. Each packet is supposed to comprise at least one entity of at least two different entities, which different entities are employed for transmitting signals representing different kinds of information. In order to enable a higher data rate, signals that are to be transmitted in at least one of said different entities are modulated with a first set of values of at least one modulation parameter of a selected modulation scheme. Further, signals that are to be transmitted in at least one other of said different entities are modulated with a second set of values of said at least one modulation parameter, said second set of values comprising less values than said first set of values.

  • Publication number: 20080118014
Abstract: A system for managing the operation of a plurality of radio modems integrated within the same wireless communication device. In at least one embodiment of the present invention, a control strategy may be employed to manage the operation of a plurality of radio modems and/or wireless mediums. • Publication number: 20080101296
Abstract: A system for managing the operation of a plurality of radio modems contained within the same wireless communication device. The radio modems may be managed so that simultaneous communication involving two or more radio modems utilizing conflicting wireless communication mediums may be avoided. More specifically, a multiradio controller may identify when scheduled communication time in a radio modem using a more dominant, or high priority, wireless communication medium will in actually go unused, and may reallocate some or all of the now available scheduled time to radio modems using a lower priority wireless communication medium that have messages to transact.

  • Patent number: 7352998
Abstract: A method and system for establishing a wireless communications link determines, through a first short-range communications link of a first type, whether a remote device is capable of supporting a short-range communications link of a second type. If so, information is exchanged with the remote device across the first communications link to establish a second short-range communications link of the second type. Once established, communications with the remote device across the second short-range communications link may commence. The first communications link may be a Bluetooth link and the second communications link may be an ultra wideband (UWB) link.

  • Publication number: 20070281743
Abstract: A system for managing the simultaneous operation of a plurality of radio modems in a single wireless communication device (WCD). The multiradio control may be integrated into the WCD as a subsystem responsible for scheduling wireless communications by temporarily enabling or disabling the plurality of radio modems within the device. The multiradio control system may comprise a multiradio controller (MRC) and a plurality dedicated radio interfaces. The radio interfaces are dedicated to quickly conveying delay sensitive information to and from the radio modems. The modems may further include control features that take information from the MRC as an input in determining the priority of messages to be sent out to a receiving device.

  • Publication number: 20070147332
Abstract: A plurality of polling response transmission times are allocated for a corresponding plurality of remote devices. The remote devices operate according to a first wireless transmission mode, such as Bluetooth LEE. These allocated polling response transmission times are outside of a time interval designated for communications according to a second wireless transmission mode, such as Bluetooth. Each of the polling response transmission times may be offset from a polling packet transmission time by a corresponding delay interval. In addition, a polling packet to the plurality of remote devices is transmitted, and one or more responses to the polling packet are received. Each of these responses is sent by one of the remote devices during its corresponding polling response transmission time. In addition, communications according to the second wireless transmission mode may be conducted during the designated time interval.

  • Publication number: 20070149123
Abstract: An apparatus has multiple radio modules, a connection identifier resolution module, and a host controller. Each of the radio modules communicates over a wireless connection and assigns an identifier (e.g., a Bluetooth connection handle) to its corresponding wireless connection. The connection identifier resolution module identifies two or more conflicting connection identifiers assigned by the multiple radio modules. In addition, the connection identifier resolution module assigns one or more alternate connection identifiers. Each of the one or more alternate connection identifiers corresponds to a respective one of the two or more conflicting connection identifiers. The host controller employs the one or more alternate connection identifiers when exchanging information with the plurality of radio modules.

  • Patent number: 7190690
Abstract: Bluetooth relay devices can be used for networking different Bluetooth devices. Such relay devices typically have many Bluetooth modules, each of which can communicate with a number of different Bluetooth devices and/or adjacent relay devices. In order to avoid transmitting by one Bluetooth module of a relay device whilst its another Bluetooth module receives, all the Bluetooth modules of the relay device are set as masters and one of them is given control over the others so as to enforce all the Bluetooth modules to time their receptions so that no simultaneous transmissions by another Bluetooth modules occur.

  • Patent number: 7158756
Abstract: A method and system for setting up a local service session in a short-range communications network receives preconfiguration information over a long-range network, and establishes the local service session in the short-range communication network using the received preconfiguration information. The preconfiguration information relates to the establishment of the local service session in the short-range communication network. Accordingly, the received preconfiguration information may include an address of a remote short-range communications device, such as a a Bluetooth device address (BD_ADDR). The received preconfiguration information may also include security information, such a personal identification number (PIN), and/or one or more encryption keys. In addition, the preconfiguration information may include an identifier of an offered short-range service, as well as an identifier indicating a location where the short-range service is offered.

  • Publication number: 20060205401
Abstract: A system and method are disclosed for reducing interference in simultaneous wireless LAN (WLAN) and wireless personal area network (PAN) signal handling in mobile wireless terminals having both a WLAN and a PAN interface. The wireless terminal includes a first transceiver operating in the PAN network in a communications band and a first communications protocol transmitting first data units. The wireless terminal also includes a second transceiver operating in the WLAN network in substantially the same communications band and a second communications protocol transmitting second data units. The wireless terminal further includes a controller coupled to the first and second transceivers, assigning a higher transmission priority to the second data units than to the first data units when transmission of the second data units overlaps a first occurring transmission of the first data units, to abort transmission of the first occurring data unit.

  • Patent number: 7102640
Abstract: The method disclosed gives the user rapid notice of those Bluetooth devices within communication range, and yet it selectively blocks any notice about Bluetooth devices that the user wishes to ignore. Bluetooth server devices can indicate to the user's Bluetooth client device the service the server device has available by sewing service/device icon information to Bluetooth client device. This information can be a value in the class-of-device (CoD) field of a frequency hop synchronization (FHS) packet that it sends during the process of exchanging inquiry and paging packets with the Bluetooth client device. If the server device has begun by transmitting an inquiry packet, then the CoD value will be sent in its paging packet. If the server device is responding to an inquiry, then its CoD value will be in its inquiry response packet. Alternately, the service/device icon information can be sent after a connection has been made with the client device, as part of a Service Discovery Protocol (SDP) response packet.
