  • Publication number: 20040240377
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and to a modulator for modulating signals. The signals are to be transmitted by a device in packets via an air interface. Each packet is supposed to comprise at least one entity of at least two different entities, which different entities are employed for transmitting signals representing different kinds of information. In order to enable a higher data rate, signals that are to be transmitted in at least one of said different entities are modulated with a first set of values of at least one modulation parameter of a selected modulation scheme. Further, signals that are to be transmitted in at least one other of said different entities are modulated with a second set of values of said at least one modulation parameter, said second set of values comprising less values than said first set of values.

  • Patent number: 6823186
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for facilitating inter-slave device communications in a radio communication system, such as a Bluetooth-compatible communication system. Channel allocations to permit the effectuation of the communications between the slave devices are controlled by a master device. Indications of the channel allocations are provided by the master device to the slave devices, and thereafter, a radio link is formed directly between the slave devices and communications therebetween are effectuated.

  • Publication number: 20040170120
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for modulating a signal in a system providing short-range wireless communication. In the signal, the signal is transmitted in packet format, in which each packet comprises at least a first part and a second part. In the method, the first part and the second part are modulated by using the first modulation method and the second modulation method, respectively. The second modulation method is initialized by using the first part. The invention also relates to a transceiver device and a wireless communication system, in which the method is applied.

  • Patent number: 6760317
Abstract: A method and system for establishing a connection link between a master device and a plurality of slave devices in a communications network having a plurality of frequency channels within a radio frequency band known as the unlicensed ISM band, wherein the connection links between the master device and the slave devices are capable of being carried out in a frequency-hopping fashion. The method comprises the steps of sending a link request to the master device requesting establishment of a non-frequency-hopping connection link between the master device and a slave device; establishing the non-frequency-hopping connection link as requested if the master device is able to select a communication channel for such a connection link; and establishing or maintaining the connection link in the frequency-hopping fashion if the master device is unable to select such a communication channel.

  • Patent number: 6731939
Abstract: Apparatus, and an associated method, for utilizing a Bluetooth-compatible access point and mobile stations of a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) system. A manner is provided by which to increase the number of mobile stations capable of communicating with an access point at any particular time during operation of the WLAN system. Limitations associated with a maximum of communication devices capable of forming a single piconet are obviated as additional piconets are defined, as required, to accommodate increased numbers of mobile stations to communicate with the access point of the WLAN system.

  • Publication number: 20030235179
Abstract: Bluetooth relay devices can be used for networking different Bluetooth devices. Such relay devices typically have many Bluetooth modules, each of which can communicate with a number of different Bluetooth devices and/or adjacent relay devices. In order to avoid transmitting by one Bluetooth module of a relay device whilst its another Bluetooth module receives, all the Bluetooth modules of the relay device are set as masters and one of them is given control over the others so as to enforce all the Bluetooth modules to time their receptions so that no simultaneous transmissions by another Bluetooth modules occur.

  • Publication number: 20030083015
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for accelerating a set-up procedure for wireless connections between at least two devices. The set-up procedure requires a first device to receive an inquiry message initiating said procedure from a second device twice with a back-off time in between before responding to the second device. In order to enable such an acceleration, it is proposed that the first device scans for inquiry messages and measures a value of a parameter associated to a detected inquiry message indicative of the received power level of the inquiry message. Then, the first device determines at least a maximum number as a function of the measured value, or of a pathloss determined based on this measured value. It moreover generates a random number within a number space limited by the maximum number. Finally, the first device scans again for the inquiry message after a back-off time. The length of the back-off time is related to said generated random number.

  • Publication number: 20020193072
Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication system comprising devices (2a-2d) having means for short range communication using a certain frequency band. The frequency band is divided into communication channels. In the communication system some of said communication channels are predefined for establishment of the connection and other communication channels are predefined for data transfer between at least two devices. The present invention also relates to a communication device for communication in a communication system, the device having means for short range communication using a certain frequency band, which is divided into communication channels. The present invention further relates to a method for performing communication in a communication system comprising devices, which have means for short range communication using a certain frequency band, which is divided into communication channels.

  • Patent number: 6421401
Abstract: To achieve and maintain symbol synchronization in a receiver a correlation (302) between an undelayed sequence of samples representing the received signal and a delayed sequence of samples representing the received signal is calculated, and a moving sum (306) of the calculated correlation to produce a certain sequence of values is calculated. In addition, the values in the sequence of values are multiplied by predetermined other values obtained from the sequence of values in order to produce (307, 502) a modified sequence of values, and a moving sum (311, 505) is calculated of the modified sequence of values to produce a peak value that indicates the correct symbol synchronization.
