  • Publication number: 20120190302
Abstract: A system for facilitating short-range wireless data exchanges between apparatuses that are not linked by a wireless network connection. For example, an apparatus may initially determine if data suitable for transmission without first establishing a formal network connection is pending. For example, in terms of Bluetooth the data may suitable for transmission to another apparatus without having to first negotiate a Bluetooth piconet including both apparatuses. If it determined that data is pending for transmission, the apparatus may scan for apparatus detection packets transmitted from other apparatuses (e.g., enter an inquiry scanning mode). Upon reception of an apparatus detection packet, the apparatus may transmit one or more messages via wireless communication (e.g., execute an extended inquiry response procedure) comprising at least the data.

  • Patent number: 8224257
Abstract: A system for configuring wireless communication in apparatuses based on sensed spectrum information. Apparatuses interacting via a shared information space may exchange configuration information that may, for example, comprise communication transport information. The configuration information may then be utilized in formulating spectrum sensing parameters that are distributed to one or more of the apparatuses via the shared information space. The spectrum sensing parameters may be used by the apparatuses for performing signals sensing operations in their respective environments, the results of which may be shared via the shared information space. The spectrum sensing results may then be utilized to configure and/or manage communications in one or more of the apparatuses.

  • Publication number: 20120124225
Abstract: A system for configuring communications in an apparatus. An apparatus may determine whether access to resources not in the apparatus is desired. If it is determined that access to the resource is desired, an access request may be sent to a resource manager. The apparatus may then receive connection information in response to the access request, and may then utilize the connection information when selecting a communication configuration usable for accessing the desired resources that are accessible via the other apparatus.

  • Patent number: 8156229
Abstract: A wireless device transmits beacon packets at periodically occurring time intervals across a wireless channel. When the wireless communications device has not formed a piconet with one or more remote devices, the device scans the wireless channel for a predetermined amount of time immediately following each of the periodically occurring time intervals. During this time a remote device may respond to the beacon packet.

  • Publication number: 20110167182
Abstract: A system for controlling message transmission in an apparatus. Messages pending for transmission in an apparatus may be analyzed in order to determine a type for each message. The type determined for each message may then be utilized to select a transport set comprising one or more transports. The apparatus may select a transport from the transport set and may then transmit the pending messages using the selected transport.

  • Patent number: 7965982
Abstract: An apparatus for short-range wireless communications includes a transceiver configured to operate different modes. Each of these modes corresponds to a particular wireless link type. In addition, the apparatus includes a controller for selectively activating one of the operational modes of the transceiver. The controller sends one or more operational parameters to components within transmitter and receiver portions of the transceiver, such as filters, amplifiers, analog-to-digital converters, and digital-to-analog converters. Such parameters control the operational characteristics of these components.

  • Publication number: 20110105024
Abstract: A system for disseminating resource (e.g., service) availability information throughout a group of wireless-enabled apparatuses. For example, one or more apparatuses may act as service information holders configured to maintain information regarding their own services, as well as about services that are available from other apparatuses that were previously in communication with the service information holding apparatuses. As a result, information regarding available resources in multiple apparatuses may be obtained from a single apparatus via a single wireless communication protocol, regardless of whether the service is actually accessible via the wireless communication protocol, or even available from the apparatus that is performing the advertising.

  • Publication number: 20110004886
Abstract: A system for automating connection management in a manner that may be transparent to any actively communicating applications operating in a Network on Terminal Architecture (NoTA). An application level entity, such as an application node, may access another node by making a request to a high level communication structure via a high level interface. The high level structure may then interact with a lower level structure in order to facilitate a connection to a programmatic element on another device, for example, via a wireless communication transport.

  • Publication number: 20110002344
Abstract: A system for automating connection management in a manner that may be transparent to any actively communicating applications operating in a Network on Terminal Architecture (NoTA). An application level entity may access another node by making a request to a high level communication structure via an interface. The high level structure may interact with a lower level structure configured to manage communication by establishing communication with another device via one or more transports. In at least one embodiment, provisions may be made to guard against data being lost when a transport fails, including storing data that is passed from a transport-independent buffer to a transport-specific buffer in case the transport fails. When a failure occurs, the stored data may readily be forwarded for sending using another transport.

  • Patent number: 7865183
Abstract: A method of coordinating devices in a wireless network is provided. First capability data associated with a first type of power source and a first state of the power source of a first device is received at a second device. Second capability data is transmitted to the first device from the second device. The second capability data is associated with a second type of power source and a second state of the power source of the second device. The first capability data is compared with the second capability data at the second device. If the comparison indicates the first capability data is less desirable than the second capability data, the second capability data is transmitted again to the first device from the second device. If the comparison indicates the first capability data is more desirable than the second capability data, the first capability data is received again from the first device at the second device.

  • Publication number: 20100260067
Abstract: A system including a billboard that may comprise a common memory space allocated amongst at least two devices. Service nodes created on the billboard may represent services offered by the at least two devices. Service nodes may interact with each other on the billboard in order to perform inquiries for required services. For example, an application residing in the at least two devices may access the billboard in order to locate service nodes pertaining to a desired service. Information available from service nodes may include service property and usable transport information. A direction connection may then be made between the application and the service after a service node is selected.

  • Patent number: 7778603
Abstract: A system for managing the operation of a plurality of radio modems contained within the same wireless communication device. The radio modems may be managed so that simultaneous communication involving two or more radio modems utilizing conflicting wireless communication mediums may be avoided. More specifically, a multiradio controller may identify when scheduled communication time in a radio modem using a more dominant, or high priority, wireless communication medium will in actually go unused, and may reallocate some or all of the now available scheduled time to radio modems using a lower priority wireless communication medium that have messages to transact.
