  • Patent number: 11470594
Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for reduced overhead signaling when a user equipment device is being configured with multiple bandwidth parts for downlink transmission. When a user equipment device is being configured with multiple bandwidth parts (channels on an aggregate carrier), the signaling that indicates the codebook subset restriction bit map, rank restriction bit map, and beam restriction bit map needs to be repeated for each bandwidth part. Often however, the restriction bit maps are repeated in the bandwidth parts, and so overhead can be reduced by encoding a confirmation bit in each bandwidth part, such that if the confirmation bit is set to “1”, the user equipment device can know to apply the restriction bit map from the primary bandwidth part to the secondary bandwidth part, without having to encode the secondary bandwidth part restriction bit map.

  • Publication number: 20220311493
Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for a reciprocity based channel state information acquisition scheme for frequency division duplex wireless communications systems. By converting channel state information from a traditional frequency-time domain to a Delay-Doppler domain, the channel state information feedback overhead can be reduced since the multi-path of radio propagation is reciprocal in terms of each ray and each cluster of antenna elements. Since the surrounding objects create the same multipath fading for both uplink and downlink transmissions, modeling the channel state information in the Delay-Doppler domain, and adjusting the sign of the Doppler value (negative/positive) can account for the multipath characteristics in both uplink and downlink.

  • Patent number: 11452090
Abstract: A base station device can transmit data via multiple data channels to a single user equipment device. Each of the multiple data channels can be configured and scheduled via respective downlink control channels to the user equipment device. In an embodiment, the first data channel can be mapped to multiple layers, with a modulation and coding scheme (MCS) assigned based on the average channel quality indicator (CQI) of the layers. One or more of the layers can have a higher CQI however, capable of supporting an additional transmission. The base station device can then facilitate establishing a second data channel to the layer with the higher CQI. The MCS assigned to the second data traffic channel can be based on the CQI of the layer, or based on a difference between the average CQI of the layers and the CQI of the layer.

  • Patent number: 11445573
Abstract: Various embodiments disclosed herein provide for the provisioning of backhaul links over a 5G N R (New Radio) integrated access and backhaul (IAB) network for access nodes using non-5G radio access technologies. In this way, the IAB network can service devices that are connected to the core network via older 3GPP technologies, or even non-3GPP technologies such as Wi-Fi. An IAB mobile terminal can be provided at the end point access node to make the access node an IAB node. Using an existing internet protocol (IP) routing in the IAB network, or providing for an IP tunnel between the endpoint access node and the core network can then facilitate providing backhaul services for the non-5G access node.

  • Publication number: 20220286937
Abstract: The described technology is generally directed towards adaptively changing which transmission scheme a user equipment is to use based on a Doppler metric (e.g., Doppler frequency) as evaluated against a threshold Doppler value. A network instructs a user equipment to use a Rank-1 precoder cycling transmission scheme if the Doppler metric of user equipment is above a threshold value, or to use a closed loop MIMO transmission scheme if the user equipment has a Doppler metric below the threshold value. The network can instruct the user equipment via a suitable message, or by switching off TPMI and notifying the user equipment thereof.

  • Publication number: 20220286250
Abstract: The described technology is generally directed towards adapting the demodulation reference signal sent in a wireless resource data block based on channel estimation performance. In general, if the demodulation reference signal received was not successfully able to be used to demodulate the resource data block, the demodulation reference signal density can be increased up to a maximum density, which costs resource elements but improves the channel estimation accuracy. If the demodulation reference signal received was able to be used to demodulate the resource data block, the demodulation reference signal density can be decreased down to minimum density, which saves resource elements for data. The network device can use HARQ ACK/NACK data (e.g., a current count or counted over a time period) to determine channel estimation performance, and/or the user equipment can recommend a demodulation reference signal density change.

  • Publication number: 20220278811
Abstract: The described technology is generally directed towards using demodulation reference signal (DMRS)-based channel state information (CSI) reporting in a wireless communications network with multiple transmit-receive points (TRPs). A user equipment computes joint CSI based on received DMRS data, e.g., received with downlink data traffic from two TRPs, such as co-located or backhaul connected TRPs. The DMRS-based joint CSI is reported to the multiple TRPs for use in scheduling subsequent data traffic, which can increase data throughput, and can reduce the frequency of CSI-RS reporting, increasing overall efficiency. The network can activate and deactivate DMRS-based CSI reporting.

  • Patent number: 11425590
Abstract: Doppler metric data relating to a speed of a mobile device can be used by the mobile device to determine whether a speed threshold has been satisfied. If the speed threshold has been satisfied, then the mobile device can make a recommendation to a network node device to terminate closed-loop multiple input multiple output transmissions and to use a rank-1 precoder transmission. The network device can then decide how to proceed. Alternatively, the network device can change the transmission type based on a load threshold being determined to have been satisfied and the recommendation from the mobile device.

  • Publication number: 20220263559
Abstract: Fast calculation of channel state information using demodulation reference signals (DM-RS) is provided herein. The channel state information can be calculated by estimating the signal to noise ratio of a communication link based on the DM-RS, and then estimating the channel quality indicator based on the SINR. The advanced receivers can use list-based detection methods which the estimated SINR can improve the performance thereof. Channel state information is traditionally calculated based on the channel state reference signals (CS-RS). Demodulation reference signals, which are used for channel estimation for a data channel, are transmitted at different times than CS-RS however, and so some portions of the channel state information including layer indicator (LI) and channel quality indicator (CQI) can be calculated based on the demodulation reference signals, allowing a network to adapt more quickly to changing channel conditions, without having to transmit a CS-RS.
