  • Patent number: 9753713
Abstract: A distributed application may be updated by using information provided by the application to determine grouping, sequencing, and whether or not to advance an update sequence. The application may provide input to an update sequence, and may cause the update sequence to repair one or more replicas prior to updating. The update mechanism may be used to change the distributed application topology as well as make changes to the application executable code, application configuration, quest operating system, virtual machine, and host systems, among others. In some cases, the distributed application may use a quorum to determine which version is current, and the quorum may change during the update process.

  • Patent number: 9305962
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to a camera assembly including a rear-facing camera and a front-facing camera operatively coupled together (e.g., bonded, stacked on a common substrate). In some embodiments of the invention, a system having an array of frontside illuminated (FSI) imaging pixels is bonded to a system having an array of backside illuminated (BSI) imaging pixels, creating a camera assembly with a minimal size (e.g., a reduced thickness compared to prior art solutions). An FSI image sensor wafer may be used as a handle wafer for a BSI image sensor wafer when it is thinned, thereby decreasing the thickness of the overall camera module. According to other embodiments of the invention, two package dies, one a BSI image sensor, the other an FSI image sensor, are stacked on a common substrate such as a printed circuit board, and are operatively coupled together via redistribution layers.

  • Patent number: 9284182
Abstract: Disclosed is an isolation mechanism and technique for packaging a MEMS transducer, such as a bulk acoustic wave gyroscope or accelerometer, to provide isolation from externally applied (or internally induced) stress, strain, vibration, shock and thermal transients. The disclosed methods and techniques enable the location of voids/air cavity/environmental isolations inside an encapsulant or over mold compound to be custom selected by treating at least a portion of the exterior surfaces of the MEMS device package with anti-stiction coatings to create opposing hydrophobic and hydrophilic conditions which during encapsulant and transfer molding steps create voids or air bubbles in the proximity of the anti-stiction coating due to the opposing water resistive characteristic of encapsulant.

  • Patent number: 9231256
Abstract: The traditional method of pressing CFx, screen and SVO sheet assembly results in an electrode that is cupped and not flat. This results in the reduction of the effective volumetric energy density of the electrode or the addition of a process step of flattening of the cathode if at all possible. The new method of assembly effectively eliminates the cupping behavior and produces a flat electrode. In addition, the physical density of the cathode is also increased.

  • Publication number: 20150381860
Abstract: A user portable device includes a device chassis comprising at least one opening at a surface of the device chassis and a sensor assembly aligned with the at least one opening. The sensor assembly includes a mounting structure and a plurality of sensors mounted to the mounting structure. The sensors include at least two sensors utilized by the user portable device based on a specified geometric configuration between the at least two sensors. The user portable device further includes a mounting fastener that mounts the sensor assembly to the device chassis so as to isolate the sensor assembly from deformation of the surface of the device chassis along one or more axes during user handling, and thus aid in preventing alteration of a baseline geometric configuration of one or more sensors of the sensor assembly due to the chassis deformation.

  • Publication number: 20150311498
Abstract: The present invention relates to an electrochemical cell comprising an anode of a Group IA metal and a cathode of a composite material prepared from an aqueous mixture of iron sulfate, nickel sulfate, and sulfur. The cathode material of the present invention provides for a lithium electrochemical cell having an increased operating voltage and power performance with high discharge capacity as compared to a lithium cell comprising nickel disulfide cathode material. In addition, the cathode material of the present invention exhibits a smaller initial irreversible voltage loss as compared to iron disulfide. This makes the cathode material of the present invention particularly useful for implantable medical applications.

  • Patent number: 9143057
Abstract: A microelectromechanical (MEMS) package including a compressive system preferentially directs external forces, towards the MEMS sensor in a manner that affects several components of the Quality Factor (Q) of the MEMS system. Relatively rigid materials (force transfer elements) are added or deposited in strategic places along any of the edges, faces or corners of a MEMS sensor, followed by the addition of material, which by virtue of the annealing process, applies a compressive stress to all objects encased therein. As a result, vibrational modes are affected due to changes in the effective mass and spring constants of the total MEMS apparatus system, dampening particular modes and stabilizing the MEMS transducer since such modes cannot be spuriously activated due to environmental changes. By attenuating, or at least causing them to be constant, the spurious modes and their absorption of vibrational energy are predictable over all operating conditions and thus amenable to electronic controls, e.g.

  • Patent number: 8935375
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer-readable media for facilitating coordination between a fabric controller of a cloud-computing network and a service application running in the cloud-computing network are provided. Initially, an update domain (UD) that includes role instance(s) of the service application is selected, where the service application represents a stateful application is targeted for receiving a tenant job executed thereon. The process of coordination involves preparing the UD for execution of the tenant job, disabling the role instance(s) of the UD to an offline condition, allowing the tenant job to execute, and restoring the role instance(s) to an online condition upon completing execution of the tenant job.
