  • Patent number: 8463985
Abstract: Constrained coding to reduce floating gate coupling in non-volatile memories including a method for storing data. The method includes receiving write data to be written to a flash memory device, selecting a codeword in response to the write data, and writing the codeword to the flash memory device. The codeword is selected to reduce floating gate coupling in the flash memory device by preventing specified symbol patterns from occurring in the codeword.

  • Patent number: 8462651
Abstract: Methods and devices for transmission of communications during a silence interval are described. A base station (BS) provides timing data to an access terminal (AT) and AT uses timing data to synchronize with BS to carry our silence and non-silence intervals for an RF air interface. AT attempts to initiate communications by transmitting an access probe (AP) to BS during a non-silence interval. Other ATs may transmit communications to BS during non-silence interval. If BS acknowledges AP during non-silence interval, AT does not transmit during a subsequent silence interval. If AP was for an emergency communication and BS does not acknowledge AP sent during non-silence interval, AT transmits another AP during the subsequent silence interval to initiate emergency communication. If AP was not for emergency communication, AT does not transmit AP during the subsequent silence interval. The other ATs do not transmit communications to BS during the subsequent silence interval.

Abstract: Flash memory devices and systems are provided. One flash memory device includes an n-channel metal oxide semiconductor field-effect transistor (nMOSFET), a silicon-oxide-nitride-oxide silicon (SONOS) transistor coupled to the nMOSFET, and an isolated p-well coupled to the nMOSFET and the SONOS transistor. A flash memory system includes an array of memory devices divided into a plurality of paired sectors, a global bit line (GBL) configured to provide high voltage to each respective sector during erase and program operations coupled to each of the plurality of sectors, and a plurality of sense amplifiers coupled between a respective pair of sectors. Methods for operating a flash memory are also provided. One method includes providing high voltage, via the GBL, to the paired sectors during erase and program operations and providing low voltage, via a local bit line, to each memory device during read operations.

  • Publication number: 20130141465
Abstract: Methods and apparatus provide for a Resolution Parameter Modifier. The Resolution Parameter Modifier detects a modification of a document resolution setting from a first resolution to a second resolution. The Resolution Parameter Modifier identifies a resolution dependent parameter(s) associated with a graphical effect(s) applied upon a graphical object(s) in a document, where the graphical object was previously converted from a vector-based object to a raster-based object. The resolution dependent parameter is defined to scale a visual result of the graphical effect with respect to a given document resolution. The Resolution Parameter Modifier updates the resolution dependent parameter in accordance with the second resolution. As the document is rendered at the second resolution, the Resolution Parameter Modifier re-executes the graphical effect on the graphical object in accordance with an updated resolution dependent parameter(s).

  • Publication number: 20130145314
Abstract: A parent and child window are arranged in a user interface to cause the child window to behave as a modal window with respect to the parent window, and to behave as a modeless window with respect to a remainder of the user interface. The user interface focus can be shifted without having to close the child window, as would ordinarily be the case with a modal window. Opening the child window from the parent window causes one or more event handlers to be installed in the parent window to prevent input events from being processed by the parent window. The event handler(s) is(are) deinstalled when the child window is closed. This arrangement permits the user interface to take advantage of the properties of modal windows, while providing flexibility for interacting with a remainder of the user interface.

  • Patent number: 8458402
Abstract: Various systems and methods can decide whether information being evicted from a level one (L1) operating system cache should be moved to a level two (L2) operating system cache. The L2 operating system cache can be implemented using a memory technology in which read performance differs from write performance. One method involves detecting that a portion of a file (e.g., a page) is being evicted from a L1 operating system cache. In response to detecting the imminent eviction of the portion of the file, the method determines whether the portion of the file has been read more frequently or written more frequently. Based upon this determination (e.g., in response to determining that the portion of the file has been read more frequently, if the L2 cache provides better read than write performance), the method decides to copy the portion of the file to the L2 operating system cache.

  • Patent number: 8457967
Abstract: A procedure to automatically evaluate the spoken fluency of a speaker by prompting the speaker to talk on a given topic, recording the speaker's speech to get a recorded sample of speech, and then analyzing the patterns of disfluencies in the speech to compute a numerical score to quantify the spoken fluency skills of the speakers. The numerical fluency score accounts for various prosodic and lexical features, including formant-based filled-pause detection, closely-occurring exact and inexact repeat N-grams, normalized average distance between consecutive occurrences of N-grams. The lexical features and prosodic features are combined to classify the speaker with a C-class classification and develop a rating for the speaker.

  • Patent number: 8456510
Abstract: A virtual distributed multipoint control unit in a videoconference may be implemented using a master endpoint, one or more facilitator endpoints, and one or more leaf endpoints. The facilitator endpoint(s) may receive video and/or audio from the leaf endpoints (which may provide/receive videoconference audio and video to one or more local participants). The master endpoint may receive video and/or audio from one or more facilitator endpoints (which may include cumulative video stream from multiple leaf endpoints) and/or directly from one or more leaf endpoints. The master endpoint may arrange received video and/or audio and provide cumulative video and/or audio streams to the leaf endpoints (e.g., directly and/or through the facilitator endpoints). The virtual distributed multipoint control unit may support a conference with more leaf endpoints than the master endpoint has input ports and/or decoders.

  • Patent number: 8450633
Abstract: The disclosure relates to the automatic selection of a set of candidate weld guns and candidate orientations for the weld guns from a library of existing weld guns. Minimum values for weld points and test orientations are calculated. The calculated minimum values are added to the library. As each point is added to the library, the set of weld guns that are candidates for the weld point at the tested orientation may be efficiently retrieved, and a matrix of candidate weld guns and orientations is produced.
