  • Publication number: 20120065804
Abstract: A system and method for real-time feeder reconfiguration are disclosed for load balancing in distribution system automation. The load balancing of transformers and feeders can be achieved by load transfer from an overloaded transformer or feeder to an adjacent transformer or feeder which is lightly loaded. An exemplary method can include defining an objective function as a sum of squares of the load deviation of transformers/feeders. The minimization of this objective function determines the optimal operating states (open or closed) of sectionalizing switches. The load balancing operation of transformer and feeder can be carried out by a single operation in which a plurality of switches is reconfigured.

  • Publication number: 20120065744
Abstract: A method of modeling a Shape Memory Alloy (SMA) element to predict a response of the SMA element includes obtaining the resistivity of the SMA element over a range of a physical property of the SMA element; correlating variations in the obtained resistivity with respect to the physical property of the SMA element to identify behavioral differences in the resistivity for the different phases of the SMA element; calculating a rate of change of the resistivity of the SMA element over a period of time; calculating the derivative of the rate of change in the resistivity of the SMA element over the period of time; and comparing real time data of the physical property to the derivative of the rate of change to predict the response of the shape memory alloy element.

  • Patent number: 8136033
Abstract: Methods, systems, apparatus, and computer program products involve modifying graphic objects. An electronic document can be obtained in a first format. The electronic document can include a graphic object represented using a main dataset and a private dataset. The main dataset can be normalized while stored in an object model in memory. A checksum can be computed for the normalized main dataset of the graphic object. The computed checksum can be compared with a stored checksum located in the electronic document. The electronic document can be converted from the first format to a second format based in part on a result of the comparison.

  • Patent number: 8134959
Abstract: A method for control cycle management in a wireless communication system. In accordance with the method, a radio access network (RAN) reserves at least one portion of a control channel cycle on an air interface forward link to carry a set of information, and determines a remaining capacity of the control channel cycle beyond the reserved portion or portions. The RAN the selects as much of the neighbor list as will fit in the remaining capacity and transmits the selected portion of the neighbor list in the control channel cycle.

  • Publication number: 20120057601
Abstract: A network device operating in a cut-through mode receives a current packet of an unknown length and determines if there is a known length value of a previous packet in a processing cycle associated with the current packet. When there is no known length value of the previous packet, the network device applies, to the current packet, an estimated length value for the current packet. When there is a known length value of the previous packet, the network device applies, to the current packet, the known length value of the previous packet. The network device processes the current packet based on one of the estimated length value or the known length value of the previous packet.

  • Publication number: 20120059043
Abstract: The present invention encompasses the finding that microRNAs (miRNAs) regulate certain key proteins involved in DNA repair. In some embodiments, a miRNA suppresses levels and/or activity of one or more DNA repair proteins. In some such embodiments, such suppression renders cells hypersensitive to certain DNA damage agents (e.g., ?-irradiation and genotoxic drugs, among others). The present invention provides various reagents and methods associated with these findings including, among other things, strategies for treating cell proliferative disorders, certain diagnostic systems, etc.

  • Patent number: 8132034
Abstract: An information handling system having plural processing modules, such as an information handling system blade chassis having plural information handling system blades, allocates power by determining an actual load sharing power loss associated with plural power supplies and applying the actual load sharing power loss to determine how much power to allocate to the information handling system modules. A chassis manager determines actual load sharing power loss by retrieving power information from plural power supplies. The actual load sharing power loss replaces a worst-case load sharing power loss assumed value to increase the amount power available for allocation to the information handling system modules.

  • Patent number: 8125231
Abstract: A capacitance-to-voltage interface circuit is utilized to obtain a voltage corresponding to a detected capacitance differential, which may be associated with the operation of a capacitive sensing cell. The interface circuit includes a capacitive sensing cell, an operational amplifier adapted for selective coupling to the capacitive sensing cell, a feedback capacitor for the operational amplifier, a load capacitor for the operational amplifier, and a switching architecture associated with the capacitive sensing cell, the operational amplifier, the feedback capacitor, and the load capacitor. During use, the switching architecture reconfigures the capacitance-to-voltage interface circuit for operation in a plurality of different phases. The different operational phases enable the single operational amplifier to be used for both capacitance-to-voltage conversion and voltage amplification.

  • Patent number: 8126930
Abstract: Methods for optimizing webpage content by micro-bucket testing user customization to the webpage include presenting a plurality of modules at a webpage based on a request from a user. The modules define an intent of the webpage. A change defining customization to one or more modules within the webpage is detected. A test case representing the change is automatically generated. The generated test case is a modified webpage having the customization. The webpage is presented to a first segment of users as a control page and the modified webpage is presented to a second segment of users in response to a request for the webpage. User interaction by the first and segment of users is monitored at the webpage and the modified webpage to determine website metrics of the corresponding webpages. The website metrics is used in defining a new control page of the webpage from the modified webpage or retaining the webpage as the control page.
