  • Publication number: 20240151645
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for fluorescence imaging using radiofrequency multiplexed excitation. One apparatus splits an excitation laser beam into two arms of a Mach-Zehnder interferometer. The light in the first beam is frequency shifted by an acousto-optic deflector, which is driven by a phase-engineered radiofrequency comb designed to minimize peak-to-average power ratio. This RF comb generates multiple deflected optical beams possessing a range of output angles and frequency shifts. The second beam is shifted in frequency using an acousto-optic frequency shifter. After combining at a second beam splitter, the two beams are focused to a line on the sample using a conventional laser scanning microscope lens system. The acousto-optic deflectors frequency-encode the simultaneous excitation of an entire row of pixels, which enables detection and de-multiplexing of fluorescence images using a single photomultiplier tube and digital phase-coherent signal recovery techniques.

  • Patent number: 11956021
Abstract: A communication system that includes a cloud server that obtains first sensor data associated with a defined indoor area and second sensor data associated with each of a plurality of optical nodes in defined indoor area. The plurality of optical nodes includes a master communication device, a plurality of optical routing devices, and one or more service communication devices. The cloud server further obtains location coordinates of each of the plurality of optical nodes. The cloud server then causes the master communication device to form a laser beam-based wireless communication network in the defined indoor area. A free-space optical backhaul is constructed by establishing a point-to-point free-space laser link between each pair of optical nodes of the plurality of optical nodes and a RF supervisory link is established between each pair of optical nodes of the plurality of optical nodes for a network monitoring and control function.

  • Patent number: 11946851
Abstract: An imaging flow cytometry apparatus and method which allows registering multiple locations across a cell, and/or across multiple flow channels, in parallel using radio-frequency-tagged emission (FIRE) coupled with a parallel optical detection scheme toward increasing analysis throughput. An optical source is modulated by multiple RF frequencies to produce an optical interrogation beam having a spatially distributed beat frequency. This beam is directed to one or more focused streams of cells whose responsive fluorescence, in different frequencies, is registered in parallel by an optical detector.

  • Patent number: 11916595
Abstract: Described herein is a solution to address the intrinsic nonlinearity of analog signals and the restrictions this places on the signals dynamic range. The subject matter described herein produces linear electro-optic modulation over a dramatically wider range of the input signal amplitude. This is accomplished by a distributed multiwavelength design that “folds” the large dynamic range across multiple linear subranges, with each subrange being addressed using an optical wavelength. As a result, the subrange within the wide dynamic range of the input signal is captured by the linear portion of the transfer function of a single transfer function. Several physical implementations of this subject are presented herein. This innovation enables the efficient use of optical links for the transmission and processing of analog and multilevel signals, overcoming the limitations that were once hindering progress in this field.

  • Publication number: 20240062548
Abstract: A life-assisting system to enhance the quality of life for people with visual impairment. The system integrates state-of-the-art sensing and sensory stimulation with light detection and ranging (LiDAR), machine learning, and advanced haptic navigation to provide the visually impaired population with a real-time haptic map of the three-dimensional environment and auditory descriptions of objects within that environment. By allowing the visually impaired population to sense objects in the surrounding environment through haptic and auditory feedback, the disclosed system has the potential to promote individual independence, reduce anxiety and stress, facilitate access to educational and employment opportunities, and reduce social and economic gaps. To provide those benefits, the system uses multi-modal learning to convert higher dimensional (e.g., four-dimensional) scene data into lower dimensional (e.g., one-dimensional) auditory data and (e.g., two- or three-dimensional) haptic data.

  • Patent number: 11831401
Abstract: A communication system that includes a master communication device at a first location in a defined indoor area, a service communication device at a second location in the defined indoor area, and passive optical routing devices at a plurality of locations in the defined indoor area. The master communication device obtains a first signal from a data source or a modem and directs a first laser beam carrying the first signal in a downstream path to a service communication device directly or via the plurality of passive optical routing devices based on defined connectivity criterions. The service communication device demodulates the first signal from the first laser beam, distributes one or more wireless signals to end-user devices, and further obtains one or more second signals from end-user devices and re-transmits obtained signals over second laser beam in upstream path to master communication device directly or via the passive optical routing devices.

  • Publication number: 20220138939
Abstract: Systems and methods for digital pathology in accordance with embodiments of the invention obtain a whole slide image of a microscope slide that includes a registration mark, wherein the registration mark is associated with a coordinate system. The method inputs the whole slide image into a region identification (RI) model to extract features of the whole slide image and generate feature vectors for the extracted features, detects a presence of a region of interest (ROI) based on the feature vectors, determines a set of coordinates of the ROI in the coordinate system, and translates a microscope stage of a microscope holding the microscope slide to a position corresponding to the coordinates of the ROI. The method captures a field of view (FOV) image with the microscope and inputs the FOV image into a grading model to determine a pathology score that indicates a likelihood of a presence of a disease.
