  • Publication number: 20130062989
Abstract: A method for securing the end sections of an annular laminated article, such as a stator core, which includes a plurality of serially joined sections, each section formed of a plurality of stacked, planar laminas. The article is initially manufactured in a liner form, and is then formed into an annular form with the end sections disposed adjacent one another. At least one tab associated with one of the end sections is displaced by a forming tool into a corresponding cavity of the other of the end sections to secure the end sections together. In another embodiment, a pair of tabs each associated with one of the end sections are respectively displaced toward one another and into corresponding respective cavities each associated with the other of the end sections to secure the end sections together.

  • Publication number: 20120186084
Abstract: A flapper base provides a flapper base body with a hinge portion unitarily formed thereupon and a flapper seat surface formed within the flowbore of the body. The flapper base may be formed from a single section of tubular metallic stock. In a method of forming a base, the stock is gripped by a rotary clamp, and a five-axis milling machine is used to cut away portions of the stock section and to form the seat surface.

  • Patent number: 8201120
Abstract: A method and a system for selecting timing points in an electrical interconnect network to be used in electrical simulations for a static timing analysis for improved accuracy. The present method includes discovering choke points in an electrical model of the interconnect for which all the paths from drivers to receivers must pass through on certain types of nets. The method then uses the choke point electrical nodes, where they exist, as an output timing point of the logic gate driving the net. The method solves the problem of inaccuracies due to resistances between different driver pins on the same interconnect net, though it can also be applied to solving analogous inaccuracies due to resistances between different receiver pins associated with the same receiver timing point.

  • Publication number: 20120098247
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosed technology comprise a general method and device for designing a nearly unlimited range of return flow fluid dynamics systems. Additionally, it allows an improved method for designing GHX (ground heat exchange) field designs. An entire piping system can be developed from two components: a load circuit with multiple optional fittings, and a supply/return Pipe Pair with a multiple optional fittings on each pipe. These units can be linked together in the computer interface workspace, emblematic of a three dimensional GHX field design. As a designer links these components together, the piping system expands in size and complexity. Regardless of the complexity of the designed system, the embodiments of the disclosed technology determine the relationship between individual components, families of components and the overall GHX field. A diverse range of fluid dynamics results and an automatic sizing system is developed in embodiments of the disclosed technology.

  • Publication number: 20120099738
Abstract: A system for adjusting an audio setting for a headset, comprises a communications device, a detachable headband containing a detectable element that can be coupled to the communications device, a sensor coupled to the communications device configured to determine whether the headband is coupled to the communications device and a processor configured to adjust the audio setting for the headset to a headband mode when the headband is coupled to the communications device. The processor may also adjust the audio setting of the headset to a non-headband mode based on the sensor detecting the headband being disconnected from the communications device.

  • Publication number: 20120054084
Abstract: In an Exchange which assigns only a whole number/integer representation of a computed number of futures contracts to a covered order for one or more option contracts, a method allocates quantities of an underlying financial product in connection with a plurality of orders, each being for a quantity of a derivative financial product derived from the underlying financial product and each being counter to a previously received order for a quantity of the derivative financial product, the previously received order being further characterized by a specified ratio of the quantity of the derivative financial product thereof to a quantity of the underlying financial product.

  • Publication number: 20120043848
Abstract: An apparatus and method for the production of relatively large diameter annular components, such as stator cores for electric motors, without excessive waste of material. In one embodiment, a first progressive die assembly forms a plurality of identical pole pieces each made of a plurality of individual stacked and interlocked laminations. The pole pieces, having protruding end portions, are loaded into a rotary carousel. A second progressive die assembly forms a continuous strip including a plurality of body segments connected via hinge portions disposed adjacent recesses between the body segments that are dimensioned to receive the protruding ends of the pole pieces.

  • Publication number: 20120032807
Abstract: Operation of a generally requires that the operator have sufficient range of motion in the upper limbs to 1) steer the vehicle and/or 2) to operate the vehicle's ancillary controls. The presently disclosed technology provides for limiting upper limb movement by requiring a user's upper limbs to be oriented in a way as to limit or prevent the user from being able to operate the vehicle. Cuffs may be secured to a variety of locations on a user's upper limbs. In a predetermined upper limb position, the cuffs are oriented in a specific location and orientation on the user's upper limbs and in a specific proximity and orientation with respect to one another. The user is compliant by maintaining the cuffs in the predetermined upper limb position. To ensure compliance, the cuffs are equipped with a compliance monitor that monitors the cuffs contact, proximity, and/or orientation with one another in conjunction with GPS information such as location and/or speed.

  • Publication number: 20110310089
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosed technology comprise a handheld display device with built-in accelerometer and, in some embodiments, compass. The display of a human figure is changed based on a change in viewpoint/orientation of the device. That is, upon detecting a change in viewpoint (e.g., viewing angle, tilt, roll, or pitch of the device), the image of the person changes. This may be used with a still picture of a person, such as for the sale of clothing, or in conjunction with moving images, such as for a sports or exercise instructional video.

  • Patent number: 7981831
Abstract: Catalysts are described in which an active catalyst is disposed on a low surface area, oxide support. Methods of forming catalysts are described in which a Cr-containing metal is oxidized to form a chromium oxide layer and an active catalyst is applied directly on the chromium oxide layer. Methods of making new catalysts are described in which the surface is sonicated prior to depositing the catalyst. Catalyst systems and methods of oxidation are also described. The inventive systems, catalysts and methods are, in some instances, characterized by surprisingly superior results.

  • Publication number: 20100259610
Abstract: Embodiments of the disclosed technology comprise devices and methods of displaying images on a display (e.g., viewing screen) and changing the image based on a position of an object. This may be done on an advertising display, such as on a vending machine, or to enable a viewer to “look around” an object on a two-dimensional screen by moving his head. The image displayed may appear to move with the person. A first image is exhibited on the display and a position of an object, such as a person within the view of a camera is detected. When the object moves, the display changes (e.g., a second image is displayed) corresponding to the second position of the object in the viewing plane.

  • Patent number: 7762335
Abstract: A system is provided for switching between redundant control systems for a subsurface safety valve (SSV) while being able to isolate the closure spring from hydrostatic pressure in the control line of the system that is not being used. There are two control lines that connect to discrete operating pistons that are both coupled to the flow tube. Each operating piston is connected to a control rod with the control rods terminating near opposed ends of a pivoting member. Pushing down on one rod pushes up on the other rod so that the other rod is held supported and the hydrostatic pressure in its associated control line doesn't affect the force needed by the closure spring to close the SSV. Releasing control line pressure puts the system in neutral to allow either of the systems to be reselected.
