  • Patent number: 8135546
Abstract: Techniques for analyzing protein structures, such as a tertiary protein structure, are provided. A centroid of the residue centroids is calculated. The centroid of the residue centroids is used as a spatial origin of a global linear hydrophobic moment. The correlation between residue centroid magnitude and residue solvent accessibility is enhanced. The global linear hydrophobic moment is defined, wherein each of the residue centroids contributes a magnitude and direction to the global linear hydrophobic moment. A method for comparing at least two tertiary protein structures is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20120059103
Abstract: Fluid activatable adhesive compositions and activating fluid(s) for activating the adhesive composition are described herein. The adhesive compositions contain at least two polymers with different hydrophilicities. The hydrophilic polymer has quick tack when exposed to a hydrophilic solvent, such as water or other aqueous solvent, while the hydrophobic polymer provides strong adhesion to a paper or polymeric substrate. The adhesive composition may contain particulate fillers which enable fast exhaustion of the activation fluid out of the adhesive when applied to a substrate, thereby allowing the hydrophobic polymers of the adhesive composition to achieve strong adhesion of the liner-free label to the paper or polymeric substrate. The particulate fillers may also function as anti-blocking agents when liner-free label media are tightly wound in a roll.

  • Patent number: 8122623
Abstract: An anchor for a wear assembly on an excavating bucket is disclosed. The excavator bucket lip has a base having a nose, and the wear assembly includes a wear member having a cavity in which the nose can be received, and an aperture extending between an outside surface of the wear member and the cavity, an internally toothed ring being located within the aperture; and a lock for releasably holding the wear member to the base. The lock includes an operable member and an externally toothed resilient ring, the resilient ring having a central aperture for engagement with the operable member. The operable member and resilient ring are jointly rotatable relative to the cavity and the internally toothed ring between a plurality of rotationally spaced locking positions where the lock secures the wear member to the base with varying tightness, and a release position rotationally spaced from the locking positions.

  • Patent number: 8116962
Abstract: A method of operating an internal combustion engine. With reference to FIG. 1, fuel is supplied to charge air using an injector (116) which in each operation delivers a set amount of fuel. The amount of fuel supplied to the charge air in each engine cycle is controlled by how many times the injector (116) operates in each cycle. A desired fuel demand is calculated as a number of operations of the injector per cycle, calculated to at least one decimal place. The desired fuel demand is rounded to a near integer to provide an output fuel demand for the injector as a number of operations of the injector for the next operating cycle in varying operating conditions of the engine. The controller calculates an aggregate number of operations for a plurality of engine cycles which is closer to an aggregated desired fuel demand for the plurality of cycles than if for each cycle of the plurality of output cycles the output fuel demand is calculated independently.

  • Publication number: 20120030975
Abstract: A lock is disclosed for use within an attachment system that connects a ground engaging tool to a bucket lip. The bucket lip has a lug attached thereto, and the ground engaging tool having a recess which receives the lug in use. The lock is disposed, in use, between the lug and the ground engaging tool. The lock has a body, a force applying member and a force receiving member, such that the application of force by the force applying member causes the force receiving member to protrude from a first side of the body and to engage the lug. The present invention involves providing a preferred failure mode for the lock.

  • Publication number: 20120019675
Abstract: A camera apparatus capable of providing optical image stabilisation comprises a support structure and a camera unit, that comprises an image sensor and a lens system for focussing an image thereon, supported on the support structure in a manner allowing it to tilt around two notional axes perpendicular to each other and to the optical axis. An SMA actuation system comprises two SMA actuator subsystems each comprising plural SMA actuators connected between the camera unit and the support structure. The SMA actuators of the respective SMA actuator subsystems are arranged, on contraction, to drive displacement of the camera unit in opposite directions along the optical axis. The SMA actuators of each SMA actuator subsystem are also arranged, on differential contraction, to drive rotation of the camera unit around a respective one of said notional axes.

  • Patent number: 8103455
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of assessing the proliferation or differentiation behavior of a population of target cells in a biological system, said method comprising the steps of; [a] measuring the value of at least one proliferation characteristic of said cells at least one time point t, wherein said proliferation characteristic is the clone size distribution; [b] comparing the clone size distribution measured in [a] to a reference clone size distribution at a corresponding time point t predicted or described by the equation; wherein a difference between the measured clone size distribution of [a] and the predicted or described clone size distribution of [b] indicates an altered proliferation or differentiation behavior of said cells. The invention further relates to methods involving assessing the scaling form of the above behaviors, values of the parameters, and inferring effects on cell proliferation and/or differentiation therefrom.
