  • Publication number: 20210157581
Abstract: A graphics processing unit (GPU) sequences provision of operands to a set of operand registers, thereby allowing the GPU to share at least one of the operand registers between processing. The GPU includes a plurality of arithmetic logic units (ALUs) with at least one of the ALUs configured to perform double precision operations. The GPU further includes a set of operand registers configured to store single precision operands. For a plurality of executing threads that request double precision operations, the GPU stores the corresponding operands at the operand registers. Over a plurality of execution cycles, the GPU sequences transfer of operands from the set of operand registers to a designated double precision operand register. During each execution cycle, the double-precision ALU executes a double precision operation using the operand stored at the double precision operand register.

  • Patent number: 10970081
Abstract: Systems, apparatuses, and methods for implementing a decoupled crossbar for a stream processor are disclosed. In one embodiment, a system includes at least a multi-lane execution pipeline, a vector register file, and a crossbar. The system is configured to determine if a given instruction in an instruction stream requires a permutation on data operands retrieved from the vector register file. The system conveys the data operands to the multi-lane execution pipeline on a first path which includes the crossbar responsive to determining the given instruction requires a permutation on the data operands. The crossbar then performs the necessary permutation to route the data operands to the proper processing lanes. Otherwise, the system conveys the data operands to the multi-lane execution pipeline on a second path which bypasses the crossbar responsive to determining the given instruction does not require a permutation on the input operands.

  • Publication number: 20210096877
Abstract: An arithmetic logic unit (ALU) pipeline of a processing unit collapses execution bubbles in response to a stall at a stage of the ALU pipeline. An execution bubble occurs at the pipeline in response to an invalid instruction being placed in the pipeline for execution. The invalid instruction thus consumes an available “slot” in the pipeline, and proceeds through the pipeline until a stall in a subsequent stage (that is, a stage after the stage executing the invalid instruction) is detected. In response to detecting the stall, the ALU continues to execute instructions that are behind the invalid instruction in the pipeline, thereby collapsing the execution bubble and conserving resources of the ALU.in response to a stall at a stage of the ALU pipeline.

  • Publication number: 20210089304
Abstract: A processing unit such as a graphics processing unit (GPU) includes a plurality of vector signal processors (VSPs) that include multiply/accumulate elements. The processing unit also includes a plurality of registers associated with the plurality of VSPs. First portions of first and second matrices are fetched into the plurality of registers prior to a first round that includes a plurality of iterations. The multiply/accumulate elements perform matrix multiplication and accumulation on different combinations of subsets of the first portions of the first and second matrices in the plurality of iterations prior to fetching second portions of the first and second matrices into the plurality of registers for a second round. The accumulated results of multiplying the first portions of the first and second matrices are written into an output buffer in response to completing the plurality of iterations.

  • Patent number: 10945622
Abstract: Three-dimensional electrical source imaging of electrical activity in a biological system (e.g., brain or heart) may involve sensor array recording, at multiple locations, of signals (e.g. electrical or magnetic signals) of electrical activity. An initial estimate of an underlying source is obtained. Edge sparsity is imposed on the estimated electrical activity to eliminate background activity and create clear edges between an active source and background activity. The initial estimate is iteratively reweighted and a series of subsequent optimization problems launched to converge to a more accurate estimation of the underlying source. Images depicting a spatial distribution of a source are generated based on the iteratively reweighted edge sparsity, and the time-course of activity for estimated sources generated. Iterative reweighting penalizes locations with smaller source amplitude based on solutions obtained in previous iterations, and continues until a desirable solution is obtained with clear edges.

  • Publication number: 20210011152
Abstract: The present disclosure discloses an ultrasonic ranging method as well as an apparatus, and a robot using the same. The method includes: obtaining ultrasonic ranging data detected by a preset ultrasonic sensor; filtering the ultrasonic ranging data to obtain the filtered ultrasonic ranging data; determining whether a measured distance of a target sampling point meets a preset stability determination condition, where the target sampling point is any sampling point in the filtered ultrasonic ranging data; and recording and outputting the measured distance of the target sampling point, if the measured distance of the target sampling point meets the stability determination condition. According to the present disclosure, after the ultrasonic ranging data is filtered, the measured distance of each sampling point in the ultrasonic ranging data is further determined through the preset stability determination condition, which greatly reduces the probability of the occurrence of false alarms.
