  • Publication number: 20090027741
Abstract: In a method for initializing an image scanner having a scanning module and an automatic document feed (ADF) glass, the scanning module is moved in a forward direction toward the ADF glass to search for a reference mark located within a relatively close proximity to the ADF glass. The scanning module is moved forward to search for a black-white transition in response to the reference mark being located and the scanning module is moved in a backward direction away from the ADF glass in response to the black-white transition being located. The scanning module is stopped when the image sensor of the scanning module is aligned with an origin mark to thereby accurately position the scanning module.

  • Publication number: 20080295786
Abstract: The invention relates to a variable speed fan drive. There is a need for a variable speed fan drive with fewer seals and bearings, which is operated by system hydraulic pressure, which has fewer parts and which is simpler to assemble. A variable speed fan drive is provided for a vehicle powered by an internal combustion engine. The fan drive has a driver variable sheave unit, a driven variable sheave unit and a belt engaging both the driver and driven variable sheave units. The driver variable sheave unit includes a driver shaft drivingly coupled to an engine output shaft, a first axially fixed half sheave mounted for rotation with the driver shaft, and a first axially movable half sheave member mounted for rotation with the driver shaft and movable axially on the driver shaft. The first axially movable half sheave member includes a belt engaging flange formed integrally with an axially movable piston member mounted for rotation with the driver shaft and movable axially in response to hydraulic pressure.

  • Publication number: 20080209004
Abstract: In one embodiment a communication method comprises the steps of receiving a query at Layer 2 from an entry node by way of a coordinated network, the query requesting data rates of network resources of the coordinated network; transmitting a Layer 2 request for an available data rate to each of a plurality of nodes connected to the coordinated network in response to the query; receiving a first Layer 2 response to said request from one or more of the plurality of nodes, wherein the first response includes a data rate with which each of the one or more nodes is capable of transmitting or receiving data; and transmitting a list of the received data rates to at least the entry node on the coordinated network.

  • Publication number: 20080192752
Abstract: A communication system and method including the steps of receiving a first request to initiate a guaranteed quality of service flow in a network, broadcasting a second request from a Network Coordinator to a plurality of nodes connected to the network and receiving a first response to the second request from at least one ingress node. The method further includes receiving a second response to the second request from at least one egress node indicating whether the at least one egress node has available resources to receive the guaranteed quality of service flow and allocating resources for the guaranteed quality of service flow if the at least one ingress node has available resources to transmit, and the at least one egress node has available resources to receive, the guaranteed quality of service flow.

  • Publication number: 20080189431
Abstract: A communications system and method comprises the steps of performing at least one Layer 2 transaction comprising a plurality of wave cycles, each Layer 2 transaction including performing a first wave cycle, concatenating the received first responses from each of the one or more nodes, and performing a second wave cycle. The first wave cycle includes broadcasting a first request from a network coordinator to a plurality of nodes connected to a coordinated network, and receiving a first response from one or more of the nodes indicating that the nodes have opted to participate in a next subsequent wave cycle. The second wave cycle includes transmitting a subsequent request from the network coordinator to each of the one or more nodes based upon the concatenated first responses.

  • Patent number: 7167877
Abstract: A method and system for updating a remote database over a network. A plurality of periodic updates, called sendfiles, based on incremental changes to a local database are generated. Each of the periodic updates includes at least one transaction. An initialization update, called an initializing sendfile, including a version of the local database at a start time is generated. Additionally, an identifier associated with the last periodic update generated before the start time and an identifier associated with the last transaction committed prior to the start time are generated.

  • Publication number: 20060246544
Abstract: The present invention provides a manufacturing method for the production of peptides that are grown in insect cell lines. The peptides are grown in insect cell cultures that are infected with baculovirus particles in a culture supplemented with a lipid mixture. The peptides are then isolated from the insect cell culture using a method that employs a tangential flow filtration cascade. The isolated peptides are glycopeptides having an insect specific glycosylation pattern. The glycopeptides may then be conjugated to a modifying group via linkage through a glycosyl linking group interposed between and covalently attached to the peptide and the modifying group. The conjugates are formed from glycosylated peptides by the action of a glycosyltransferase.

  • Publication number: 20060235427
Abstract: Instrumentation is disclosed for use in orthopedic surgery that is capable of use as a compressor, a distractor, and a rod bender. Two pivoting arms have ends that can be used to compress implants, bones, or bone fragments together or to distract such items apart. In orthopedic surgery in which a rod, bar, plate, or other support is used, the instrument may be used to introduce bends into such supports so that the orthopedic structures (e.g. vertebrae) remain in a desired portion. Additional features are provided that permit verification of size of implantable items and packing of material in intervertebral spacers and similar devices.

  • Patent number: 7047258
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and system for validating remote database updates over a network. A local database record and a remote database record may be compared and exceptions may be generated. Each exception may describe a discrepancy between the remote and local database records. An exception identifier may be associated with each exception, where the exception identifier may be associated with an identifier of the record. An event identifier may be associated with each event in the update, where the event identifier may be associated with an identifier of the record. The events and exceptions that correspond to the record may be compared to determine whether the update is valid.

  • Patent number: 6921140
Abstract: A cutter bar is provided for trimming debris away from the wheel-track interface of a tracked vehicle. A pivot attachment is provided wherein a knife having a cutting edge is removably mounted to a bracket by way of fasteners which will shear when a pre-selected force is applied to them. The bracket is mounted to the vehicle structure so that the knife is disposed in close proximity to the drive wheel and endless track of the vehicle. Accordingly, when a piece of tough debris is encountered by the knife edge some of the fasteners will shear and the knife pivots out of the way so that the debris can pass by without causing damage to the wheel or track. The knife and fasteners being readily serviceable with inexpensive parts.

  • Patent number: 6908163
Abstract: A bucket assembly for a refrigerator door includes a bucket frame and a bucket. The bucket frame includes a rear portion, opposing side portions and at least two mounting members. The mounting members detachably support the bucket frame on a plurality of support elements from an inner liner of the refrigerator door. The bucket includes a front wall, a back wall, a bottom wall, opposing side walls and a keeper element. The keeper element is provided to support the bucket on the bucket frame or, alternatively, respective ones of the plurality of support members. When supported on the bucket frame, the bucket is pivotable relative to the bucket frame. Therefore, the bucket can be selectively mounted for stationary or tilt-out modes of use depending upon whether or not the bucket frame is interposed between the bucket and the inner liner.
