  • Patent number: 4577317
Abstract: A bus extender which accepts data from a parallel data bus and extends the bus by means of a serial link to another parallel bus. The bus extender comprises a local and remote station or terminal, each having a transmit and receive section. A transmit terminal receives a data frame from the parallel bus and decomposes the frame into data and management sub-frames. The local and remote terminals exchange management sub-frames, thereby starting the transmission process. A data sub-frame is then transmitted from the local to the remote station and a management sub-frame is returned from the remote station indicating receipt of the data sub-frame. Other sub-frames may be exchanged for specialized purposes, such as polling and error signalling. Specialized messages may be identified by tagging sub-frames with message codes. At the remote station, the original management and data bits are reassembled into a single data frame with placement of the bits in the same order as originally appeared at the local station.

  • Patent number: 4519091
Abstract: A method of sampling accurately the instantaneous content of a high speed counter without interrupting the counting process is provided. The method is applicable even when the higher order digits of the counter are constructed by slower switching circuits configured in either a synchronous or ripple-through arrangement. The switching and carry propagation times of these higher order counters need not be shorter than the time between successive events being counted. Sampling of the contents may be made repeatedly in the interim without affecting the totality of the final count.

  • Patent number: 4507188
Abstract: A coating composition comprising a radiation curable oligomer and a reactive diluent having the formula: ##STR1## wherein R' is a monovalent aromatic or alkyl radical including from 4 to about 20 carbon atoms, R.sup.2 is a divalent alkyl radical including from about 2 to about 4 carbon atoms, and R.sup.3 is hydrogen or methyl. Addition of the reactive diluent not only reduces the viscosity of the uncured composition to an acceptable value for use as a coating but also surprisingly increases the elongation of the cured coating without reducing its tensile strength. Superior coatings for floor tiles, flooring, and other applications are thus provided.

  • Patent number: 4501831
Abstract: Aqueous compositions suitable for use as sanitary container coatings are prepared by reacting epoxy resin and a carboxyl containing acrylic resin in the presence of a polyfunctional tertiary amine. The compositions made with polyfunctional amine have lower viscosities than those made with monofunctional amine, an advantage in preparing high solid coatings for roll application, for example.

  • Patent number: 4446258
Abstract: Aqueous compositions suitable for sanitary can coatings comprising the neutralized water dispersible ionic polymer product of the reaction of an epoxy resin with acid polymer, and a different resin which is not necessarily self-dispersible in water, as well as several methods of preparing such compositions, are disclosed. The second resin which is not necessarily self-dispersible in water is introduced either preformed at any stage or is prepared, in situ, in the presence of the epoxy resin esterified with acid polymer either before the ionic epoxy resin-acid polymer product is dispersed in water. The epoxy resin-acid polymer product acts as a polymeric surfactant capable of keeping even a normally non self-dispersible second polymer in stable dispersion in water.
