  • Patent number: 5189608
Abstract: An advanced financial reporting and analysis software package is described. The package collects, organizes, manages and consolidates financial data and provides user defined capabilities for creating financial and corporate reports. Financial data is organized into four business classifications or dimensions: Schedule, Entity, Period and Type. Data is stored in the system in such a way that all data associated with a particular Schedule, Entity, Period and Type is identified by that particular SEPT value. To accommodate automatic data entry, a mapping means or template is provided that specifies for each different input spreadsheet the location of the first data cell in the spreadsheet and the size of the spreadsheet. Data is read from the data store by various report and spreadsheet generating functions which convert data associated with particular SEPT values to desired output formats.

  • Patent number: 5168348
Abstract: An impingement cooled compliant heat sink (CHS) is employed to extract heat from an array of computer chips in an electric module. A variety of embodiments and variations are provided. The most basic implementation is a metal sheet that is brought into contact with chips on a multi-chip module, and acts as a spreader plate for jet impingement immersion cooling with fluorocarbon, liquid nitrogen, or other dielectric liquids. This can increase cooling at a given flow rate by increasing the area for heat transfer. Slots and/or holes in teh sheet located between the chip sites serve to: (1) create flexible joints in the sheet between the chips to permit conformity to neighboring chip sites, (2) allow for clearance of decoupling capacitors and other structures on the substrate between the chips, and (3) permit the dielectric coolant to flow through the plate so that there will be no pressure difference across the CHS.

  • Patent number: 5166959
Abstract: A circuit for time stamping event signals, e.g. zero-crossings, using coarse and fine timers. The fine timer is a circuit section which subdivides a period from a phase-locked ring-oscillator into 2N subparts. An event signal is timed by latching a digital representation of a particular subpart. The digital representation of the subpart is an N-bit dual thermometer code which uniquely identifies each subpart with each adjacent subpart differing by only one bit. The subparts are made finer in time quantization than the propagation delay of one active element in the ring oscillator by the use of linear combiner elements. The dual thermometer code, encoded post-latching into a binary code, forms the "fine" timing part of a binary word representation of the event time. The event also latches the count states of a pair of lead-lag counters in a master-slave configuration counting ring oscillator periods. These counters change states respectively before and after the dual thermometer code turn-overs.

  • Patent number: 5133713
Abstract: An apparatus of a new type of resectoscope for prostatectomy essentially comprising an electrical driving system which is connected to a replaceable high resistivity electrotome, or a screw thread cutting-knife, and a tube-electrode to achieve the spinning-type of resection for prostate or bladder tumor. A DC-motor and a transmission-gear set are mounted within a hand grip. Other devices, such as the resectoscope sheath, telescope universal electro-surgical unit, optical light source, and universal light guide cable may be connected to this apparatus. The resectoscope provides a high speed operation, safety, effectiveness, and convenience.

  • Patent number: 5116113
Abstract: Laser protection is provided by utilizing certain organic polymers with carboxylic or sulfonic acid groups which exchange their protons with cupric or ferrous metal ions to form cupric or ferrous ion-containing polymers. In addition, laser protection is also provided utilizing organic polymers with functional groups which are capable of forming complexes with cupric or ferrous metal ions. The optical absorption of the metal ions (e.g., the transition metal and rare earth ions) in these two types of metal ion-containing polymers are similar to those in absorbing glasses and will provide absorption in the near IR portion of the spectrum (i.e., greater than 680 nm). Thus, metal ion-containing polymers can be as useful for laser eye protection as known absorbing glasses, while providing high visual transmittance and light weight.

  • Patent number: 5111113
Abstract: A music initiated Christmas light set controller includes a casing in which is disposed a circuit board. The circuit board is connected to a plurality of light sets and includes a bridge rectifier, a voltage regulator circuit, a music generating integrated circuit (IC), a piezo-electric transducer, an alternative switch IC, and a plurality of thyristors. The casing includes a loudspeaker aperture for output of music, a volume control knob connected to a variable resistor for controlling the volume of music, and a knob for alternative selection of the lighting inside. A bridge rectifier is coupled to 110 volt A.C. power for providing full-wave rectification thereof. The output of the bridge rectifier is coupled to a voltage regulation circuit for dropping and filtering the voltage to form a stable voltage for application to a music IC and also provide a signal voltage to an alternative switch IC.

  • Patent number: 4983291
Abstract: High flux semipermeable membranes which comprises the polymerized reaction product within and/or on a porous support backing material may be prepared by contacting the porous support such as a polysulfone with an aqueous solution of a polyamine which may, if so desired, contain a polar aprotic solvent not reactive with the amines, a polyhydric compound and an acid acceptor. The surface of the coated support is freed of excess solution and thereafter contacted with an organic solution of a polyacyl halide for a period of time sufficient to form a polymerized reaction product within and/or on the support material. The resulting composite is then treated with a hydroxy polycarboxylic acid, polyaminoalkylene polycarboxylic acid, suffonic acid, amine salts of acids, amino acid, amino acid salt, polymeric acid and inorganic acid, before drying of the membrane. This will enable the membrane to be stored in a dry manner prior to use thereof in a separation process.
