  • Publication number: 20180193607
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to guidewire devices having shapeable tips and effective torquability. A guidewire device includes a core having a proximal section and a tapered distal section. A tube structure is coupled to the core such that the tapered distal section extends into the tube structure. The tube structure includes a plurality of bypass cuts formed tangentially within the tube structure to increase the flexibility of the tube structure and to reduce the tendency of resilient forces from the tube structure to disrupt a shaped distal tip of the guidewire device.

  • Patent number: 9970387
Abstract: The exit area of a nozzle assembly is varied by translating a ring assembly located at a rear of the engine nacelle. The ring may be axially translatable along the axis of the engine. As the ring translates, the trailing edge of the ring defines a variable nozzle exit area. Translation of the ring creates an upstream exit at a leading edge of the ring assembly. The upstream exit can be used to bleed or otherwise spill flow excess from the engine bypass duct. As the engine operates in various flight conditions, the ring can be translated to obtain lower fan pressure ratios and thereby increase the efficiency of the engine. Fairings partially enclose actuator components for reduced drag.

  • Publication number: 20180079642
Abstract: A microscale device may include a patterned forest of vertically grown and aligned carbon nanotubes defining a carbon nanotube forest with the nanotubes having a height defining a thickness of the forest. The patterned forest may define a patterned frame that defines one or more components of the microscale device. The microscale device may also include a conformal coating of substantially uniform thickness extending throughout the carbon nanotube forest. The carbon nanotube forest may have a thickness of at least three microns. The conformal coating may substantially coat the nanotubes, define coated nanotubes and connect adjacent nanotubes together such that the carbon nanotube forest is sufficiently robust for liquid processing, without substantially filling interstices between individual coated nanotubes. The microscale device may also include a metallic interstitial material infiltrating the carbon nanotube forest and at least partially filling interstices between individual coated nanotubes.

  • Publication number: 20180071496
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to vascular devices such as guidewires and microcatheters having integrated coil sections for optimizing torquability, flexibility, and ability to shape and maintain the distal tip. A guidewire device includes a core and a tube structure coupled to the core such that at least a portion of the core passes into the tube structure. A distal section of the tube structure includes a spiral cut arrangement that configures the distal section as an integral coil integrally incorporated as part of the tube structure. The integrated coil configuration increases the flexibility of the tube structure to reduce the tendency of resilient forces from the tube structure to disrupt a shaped distal tip of the guidewire device.

  • Publication number: 20180052122
Abstract: Methods are described for quantifying an amount of natural rubber in a plant from a sample of the plant by obtaining a T1 spin-lattice relaxation rate or T2 spin-spin relaxation rate from a NMR apparatus, such as a low-field NMR apparatus operating at a magnetic field strength of 2 T or less. The NMR relaxation rates obtained from the plant sample are compared to reference relaxation data or plots. The plots can represent the weight percent polyisoprene versus T1 spin-lattice relaxation rate or T2 spin-spin relaxation rate. The reference relaxation data or plots are generated from testing the same type of plant as the sample.
