  • Publication number: 20170091085
Abstract: Aspects include testing distributed file systems by selecting a file in a multiple writer environment and selecting an offset of a block in the file. Test data is generated for the block by randomly selecting a starting value from a plurality of possible starting values. A test header that includes the starting value and a test data sequence that starts with the starting value is created. A file system that is being tested writes the test header and the test data sequence to the block. Contents of the block are read by the file system that is being tested, and expected contents of the data sequence are determined based on contents of the read header. The expected contents of the data sequence are compared to the read data sequence and an error indication is output based on the expected contents not being equal to the read contents.

  • Patent number: 9594711
Abstract: Systems and methods described herein provide for a process for managing continuity of experience between operation of a hybrid computer system in the connected state and the slate component independently in the disconnected state. Embodiments further provide for the continuity of experience for devices operating under multiple processors or multiple platforms. According to embodiments, one or more states and conditions of the connected hybrid computer system may be synchronized with the slate component when the slate component is disconnected from the hybrid computer system. Alternatively, embodiments provide for the synchronization of one or more states and conditions of the independent slate component with the hybrid computer system responsive to connecting the slate component to the hybrid computer system. Non-limiting examples of states and conditions according to embodiments are web pages, applications, documents, lists of recently opened files and web pages, and web browser active tabs.

  • Publication number: 20160307424
Abstract: Image-based fire detection methods are provided which include analyzing a field of view based on a plurality of images, determining if changes occur, and analyzing whether any such changes are due to smoke-like material. Changes due to large objects are ruled out, and drift in the scene or shaking of the image collection device is accounted for by the method. The methods employ representing images of the field of view with quantifiable values and comparing to thresholds established for each event, and activating an alarm if changes due to smoke-like material are detected. The fire detection methods may also include monitoring a field of view for changes, and only performing the analysis on the images if changes are detected. The monitoring and validating stages of the methods include collecting images at different sampling rates for different amounts of information.

  • Patent number: 9453396
Abstract: An oil well pumping apparatus for pumping oil from a well to a wellhead provides a tool body that is sized and shaped to be lowered into the production tubing string of the oil well. A working fluid is provided that can be pumped into the production tubing. A flow channel into the well bore enables the working fluid to be circulated from the prime mover via the production tubing to the tool body at a location in the well and then back to the wellhead area. A pumping mechanism is provided on the tool body, the pumping mechanism includes upper and lower impeller devices. The upper impeller device is driven by the working fluid. The lower impeller device is rotated by the upper impeller device. Each upper and lower impeller devices are connected with a shaft. A specially configured flow diverter directs the working fluid to an impeller blade in between the top and bottom of an upper impeller device.
