  • Patent number: 8028344
Abstract: A hinge mechanism for attaching ear accessories to a helmet allows an accessory to be attached at a point outside the helmet shell utilizing, for example, a slidable mounting rail, and to reach under the edge of the helmet shell so that the accessory is supported in contact with the wearer's head. The hinge mechanism is well suited for use in connection with military helmets that have a “bulge” or protrusion over the ear.

  • Patent number: 8027305
Abstract: A method providing communication services to a mobile device is presented. In the method, a number of radio access networks are coupled with a packet data network by way of a number of access nodes. Each of a number of packet data flows between the mobile device and the packet data network are facilitated by way of the one of the radio access networks and one of the access nodes. State information regarding the packet data flows is exchanged between those of the access nodes facilitating at least one of the packet data flows so that each of those nodes possesses the state information for each of the packet data flows. One of the access nodes is then selected for facilitating one of the packet data flows based on the state information.

  • Patent number: 8020503
Abstract: A system and method for assembling a prosthetic heart valve, including a procedure for sewing fabric around a heart valve support stent. The system includes a support stent handling component that works in conjunction with a sewing machine component. The sewing machine has a bobbin, and the system includes a non-contact sensor to monitor the passage of a needle thread loop over the bobbin. The sensor may be a monitoring laser, and a controlling processor receives information therefrom for 100% real-time inspection of each stitch. The occurrence of an unsuccessful stitch may prompt the processor to repeat the stitch at a slower speed. The automation of the fabric sewing procedure greatly enhances manufacturing throughput and reduces ergonomic strain on workers.

  • Publication number: 20110214223
Abstract: A headgear adjustment mechanism is provided that includes a worm having a central axis of rotation, a first headband element, a second headband element, a spur gear, and a housing. The first headband element includes (i) a worm rack disposed in operative engagement with the worm, and (ii) a first pinion rack. The second headband element includes a second pinion rack. The spur gear is disposed in simultaneous operative engagement with the first pinion rack and the second pinion rack, and the housing at least partially encloses the first and second headband elements. During operation of the adjustment mechanism, rotation of the worm about the axis of rotation causes the first headband element and the second headband element to translate in opposite directions with respect to the worm, thereby adjusting a fit of the headgear.

  • Patent number: 8015496
Abstract: A system and method for facilitating visual social communication through co-browsing is provided. A social session is established and includes a plurality of Web browsers. Each Web browser is loaded with social session code, which displays a social viewport. Substantially similar portions of Web content are synchronously displayed in the social viewport of each Web browser. A social change is displayed in the social viewport of one such Web browser. The social change is partitioned into at least one social change segment Each social change segment is transmitted to each other of the Web browsers. Each social change segment is received and displayed in the other Web browsers, such that the social change is reproduced smoothly in the Web browsers as the social change is progressively created.

  • Patent number: 7996876
Abstract: A method for distributing a digital motion picture to multiple theaters in a region via terrestrial wireless communication. The motion picture is divided into chunks, and the chunks are transmitted to particular initial seed theaters in the region. To facilitate the initial seeding, downlink bandwidth on various wireless links is dynamically increased. Once the initial seeding is complete, the downlink bandwidth is decreased and is preferably equalized substantially with uplink bandwidth. The theaters in the region are then directed to begin peer-to-peer sharing of the chunks with each other, possibly through use of BitTorrent or other cooperative downloading process from the initial seed theaters. Ultimately, all of the theaters in the region thereby obtain all of the chunks of the motion picture and can conveniently present the motion picture to audiences.

  • Publication number: 20110153351
Abstract: A system and method for acquiring, hosting and distributing medical images for healthcare professionals. The system can include a database for storing private health information split from a medical imaging record. The system can also include a repository for storing at least one anonymized image split from the medical record. The anonymized images are parsed into a schema upon request with the schema provided in response to the request. The schema can define a structure mapping the anonymized images into a study. The personal information can be joined with the anonymized images to form medical imaging records into the study according to the structure. One or more participant devices in communication with the medical information network can provide collaborative features having application level capabilities that access, process, analyze or augment the personal information from the database and the non-personal information from the repository split from the medical imaging records.

  • Patent number: 7948978
Abstract: A communication network element receives a user packet in a packet flow for a user and stores the user packet in a memory. The network element retrieves the user packet from the memory, processes the user packet with a first service function, and stores the user packet in the memory. The network element transfers a memory pointer for the user packet to a second service function. The network element retrieves the user packet from the memory based on the memory pointer, processes the user packet with the second service function, and stores the user packet in the memory. • Patent number: 7924738
Abstract: A first block of packets is sent through a network at a first throughput rate. The first block of packets has a differential treatment field set to a first value. A second block of packets is sent through the network at a second throughput rate. The second block of packets has the differential treatment field set to a second value. A first report indicating that the reception of the first block of packets satisfies a criteria is received. A second report indicating that the reception of the second block of packets satisfies the criteria is received. A treatment field value for the differential treatment field is selected based on the first report and the second report. A packet with the differential treatment field set to the treatment field value is sent to the network.

  • Patent number: 7907616
Abstract: Computer-readable media for dynamic quality of service assignment are described. In embodiments, a data packet is received that is part of a communications stream and a dynamically modifiable quality of service indicator (DMQOSI) is embedded into the data packet wherein, in various embodiments, the DMQOSI indicates a prescribed quality of service that is associated with the data packet and is modifiable prior to completing a communication of the communications stream. In various embodiments, the data packet is communicated from a source to a destination that at least periodically references the DMQOSI to ensure that the data packet is being communicated consistent with the prescribed quality of service associated with the data packet.
