  • Patent number: 5325110
Abstract: A method and apparatus for using and moving an tool, such as an eraser on a graphical display whose width can be changed. The invention provides a plurality of distinct areas on the tool that can be selected by a user input device, such as a stylus on an electronic tablet or a mouse. Selecting a first distinct area on the tool allows the user to move the tool without affecting the graphical images present on the display. Selecting the second distinct area on the tool allows the tool to modify the graphical image in a first manner (such as by providing a narrow line of erasure). Selecting a different distinct area on the tool allows it to modify the graphical image in a different manner (such as by providing a wider line of erasure). The orientation of the eraser can also be changed, simplifying several fine erasure applications.

  • Patent number: 5128877
Abstract: Method of rapidly determining a binder wrap for a nonsymmetrical polygonal panel to be drawn formed, comprising: (a) forming a coordinate-based model of the blank outline of said panel; (b) specifying the displacement boundary condition of the binder wrap by nonlinear theory of mechanics, including: (i) defining arc sets to fit projections of opposite sides of the blank outline, having the greatest curvature, onto arc planes while incrementally bending the panel from a known flat condition to a binder surface condition and controlling each arc set to pass through a fixed point as it is changed in radius, (ii) interpolating from said arc sets to generate points on the unprojected opposite sides having such greatest curvature and thus defining the binder surface for the blank outline along such sides, (iii) defining the binder surface for the blank outline along sides having the least curvature by forcing such sides to lie on the binder surface through the act of proportionally reducing the gap or interference

  • Patent number: 5025314
Abstract: Remote interactive use of a plurality of writing surfaces, such as special wall mounted whiteboards and the like, is facilitated by an apparatus which includes, for each writing surface, a translucent screen acting as the writing surface itself, a video camera located behind the translucent screen for receiving an image of indications imparted upon the translucent screen, and a video projector for projecting onto the back side of the translucent screen a composite of the images imparted upon each of the translucent screens. Backlighting of a user is employed to allow presentation of the processes of imparting, using and referring to the indicia together with the indicia itself. Proper ambient lighting also provides a limited three dimensional view of the user. Audio portions of interactive work may be captured by a microphone and transmitted to speakers in conjunction with the video portion of the interactive work.

  • Patent number: 4569351
Abstract: There is disclosed a new, useful and simple apparatus, and surgical method, for implantation of same, for selective control of evacuating the urinary bladder in mammals by electrical stimulation of the motor innervations of the bladder's detrusor urinae muscle. Contractions of this muscle occur by timed electrical pulses conducted by electrodes placed in the fluid of the sacral canal, to conduct electrical stimulus through the fluid in the sacral region of the spinal cord. Nerve roots located in this region of the sacral canal, and which innervate the bladder, are stimulated by the electricity conducted by the fluid, causing contraction of the bladder's detrusor muscle, and results in micturition. In preferred form, the apparatus may be used on paraplegic or quadriplegic humans and could be selectively controllable by a paraplegic human. The apparatus may also be used to evacuate the bladder in paraplegic mammals such as dogs and cats.

  • Patent number: 4401810
Abstract: Felted cellulosic sheet material is treated with a solution of an alkali al borohydride in order to improve and stabilize its strength and brightness. A subsequent wash with deionized water or preferably an aqueous solution containing an alkaline earth metal hydroxide, carbonate, or bicarbonate further improves the stability of the brightness and strength of felted cellulosic sheet material. The washing of cellulosic sheet material is most efficiently accomplished in an apparatus providing a means to add a metered amount of alkaline earth metal hydroxide, carbonate, or bicarbonate to a continuously flowing stream of wash medium.
