  • Publication number: 20140367291
Abstract: The application discloses and claims a beverage container lid that tracks the amount of fluid consumed. The lid has a standard drinking nozzle and engagement means which includes a gasket or standard threading that sealably fit commercially available beverage containers and water bottles. The exterior of the lid has a reset button and a display window through which a display readout is visible that displays the amount of fluid consumed. The lid houses the display, a CPU, battery, sensors and internal housing through which the water flows. The internal housing has a water wheel inside of it with curved blades that are turned by the beverage as it flows out of the lid. Magnets are affixed to one or more of the blades. The CPU tracks the number of times the magnets pass the sensors and translates it into the amount of fluid consumed, which is shown on the display.

  • Publication number: 20140271757
Abstract: Compositions having antimicrobial activity contain surface functionalized particles comprising an inorganic copper salt which has low water solubility. These types of inorganic salts may also be introduced in porous particles to yield antimicrobial compositions. The compositions may optionally comprise additional antimicrobial agents, salts with high water solubility, organic acids, salts of organic acids and their esters. The compositions may be added to various fluids used in the petroleum extraction industry, or used as coatings on components used in this industry. These antimicrobial materials may be used for reducing both anaerobic and aerobic bacteria and are also useful for reducing corrosion of ferrous components caused by anaerobic bacteria. Although such compositions may be used for any antimicrobial application, and some of the other important uses of these compositions are in wound care, personal care and waste processing.

  • Publication number: 20140186965
Abstract: A safer, low-cost practical method of dissolving beryllium or a beryllium compound including beryllium oxide in a sample is disclosed. This method discloses use of acidic solutions under mild heating conditions to dissolve beryllium and its compounds. These solutions may then be used to quantitatively analyze for beryllium so as to be able to determine the amount of beryllium in the sample. These solutions may also be combined with fluorescent dye indicating solutions to determine beryllium by fluorescence. A preferred fluorescent dye indicating solution contains a dye (10-hydroxybenzo[h]quinoline-7-sulfonate) which specifically binds with beryllium under basic conditions.

  • Publication number: 20140114826
Abstract: Large volumes of financial transactions are processed today across a variety of financial platforms including but not limited to debit cards, credit cards, prepaid cards, e-purse, Automatic Teller Machine (ATM) transactions, and Point of Sale (POS) cards. It would be beneficial if financial transaction software systems and/or software applications supported discrete and periodic transactions wherein the timescales of transactions may be established with high flexibility. It would be further of benefit if the financial system provided increased security such that customer specific financial data is stored within a trusted platform wherein external databases identifying a customer cannot be linked directly to that within the trusted platform. Further it would beneficial for such a system to exploit an encryption key pool such that an encryption key employed was only identified through a unique identity and that said encryption keys within the pool may be expired with arbitrary policies.
