    Abstract: A mobile communication device capable of switching antenna modes is provided.     Abstract: Methods, systems, and apparatuses are described for reducing the latency in a transceiver. A transceiver includes a high latency communication channel and a low latency communication channel that is configured to be a bypass channel for the high latency communication channel. The low latency communication channel may be utilized when implementing the transceiver is used in low latency applications. By bypassing the high latency communication channel, the high latency that is introduced therein (due to the many stages of de-serialization used to reduce the data rate for digital processing) can be avoided. An increase in data rate is realized when the low latency communication channel is used to pass data. A delay-locked loop (DLL) may be used to phase align the transmitter clock of the transceiver with the receiver clock of the transceiver to compensate for a limited tolerance of phase offset between these clocks.

    Abstract: A stable, single mode fiber amplifier is described. The amplifier consists of a seed source, a passive single clad multimode fiber, an active double clad multimode fiber or a multimode fiber horn and a semiconductor laser pump source. The passive fiber is packaged on a mandrel with a compound radius of curvature such that high order modes in the fiber are stripped from the core leaving only the fundamental mode. This fiber is then spliced to a multimode active fiber of similar core diameter. By exciting only the fundamental mode of this active fiber, stable single mode amplification is achieved.

    Abstract: Multi-level encoded data transfer is disclosed. 2n bits may be encoded in a data signal each half clock cycle. For example, four bits may be transferred each clock cycle. Prior to data transfer, each data line may have two bits ready to be encoded. The two bits may be encoded to one of four different data states. The clock may be divided into four intervals for each half clock cycle, with each interval corresponding to one of the four data states. The two bits may be encoded into the data signal based on the interval that corresponds to the data state. As one example, the data signal could transition during the interval that corresponds to the data state for the two bits. This encoding may be repeated for two other bits for the other half of the clock cycle. Thus, QDR or some other data rate may be achieved.
