  • Patent number: 6351840
Abstract: In an integrated circuit (IC) design, a set of K×N clocked IC devices (“syncs”) such as flip-flops and latches are organized into K clusters of N syncs each, with each cluster being clocked by a separate clock tree buffer. An improvement to a conventional “K-center” method for assigning syncs to clusters is disclosed. The improved method, which reduces the separation between syncs within the clusters, initially employs the conventional K-center method to preliminarily assign the K×N syncs to K clusters having N syncs per cluster. The improved method thereafter ascertains boundaries of rectangular areas of the IC occupied by the separate clusters. When areas of any group of M>1 clusters overlap, the K-center meth is repeated to reassign the set of M×N syncs included in e M overlapping clusters to a new set of M clusters. The new set of M clusters are less likely to overlap.

  • Publication number: 20020005509
Abstract: A bandpass filter containing specific red dyes alone or in combination with other dyes selectively transmits predetermined primary color wavelengths as well as selectively absorbs wavelengths other than the predetermined primary color wavelength. The filter is particularly useful for enhancing the contrast of color plasma displays by absorbing visible light emitted at 590 nm from the display.

  • Publication number: 20010048782
Abstract: An inline fiber optic polarization combiner/divider is proposed for use in fiber optic communications. It utilizes a polarizing beam splitting cube (PBSC) or a birefringent displacer located between a pair of collimating lenses. A reflecting film (either external or directly applied to one of the faces of the PBSC or birefringent displacer) is used to completely reflect one of the two polarizations and is positioned such that the optical path length between the lens and the reflecting film is equal to one focal length in order to accomplish an optical path where the input and output optical fibers are in-line with the package.

  • Patent number: 6327045
Abstract: An implementation of a computer network which provides the ability for a network client to submit data to a network server for performing a job at a logical endpoint associated with the network server. By way of example, the data may be a print job, the job a printing operation, and the logical endpoint a printer. The logical endpoint is assigned a uniform resource locator (URL) address which allows the data to be routed thereto and the computer network communication messages are formatted into the hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP). A further implementation of the computer network also provides the network client with the ability to perform system administration utilizing a standard Internet browser application.

  • Patent number: 6094679
Abstract: A method of distributing software files resident on a network server to a network client. To effectuate the distribution, the network client issues an HTTP formatted request message to the network server which requests that certain software files resident on the network server be downloaded to the network client. The HTTP formatted request message may include information indicative of one or more of the operating system or processor architecture associated with the network client that the network server can use as an aide in determining which software files to return to the network client. The software files are bundled into a cabinet file by the network server and returned to the network client which, in turn, automatically unbundles the cabinet file, checks the authenticity of certain of the individual software files, and installs the software files in an appropriate memory location associated with the network client.

  • Patent number: 5960168
Abstract: Facilities are provided within an operating system for supporting deferred printing of print jobs. The process of spooling a print job and the process of despooling the print job are decoupled, such that a printer need not be available at the time of spooling. Print jobs are spooled in a device-independent format, such as the enhanced metafile format. The print jobs may be spooled without a printer driver being installed for a target printer or without the target printer being connected to the system. Later, when the target printer becomes available, the print job is despooled and printed. A configuration database holds different printer configurations that list available printers in different environments. For example, a user may have a different configuration for printers available when he uses his computer at home, at work and on the road, respectively. The configurations help the user to identify the printers that are currently available and those that are available in other settings.

  • Patent number: 5845058
Abstract: Print jobs are automatically and transparently spooled in a device-independent format, such as an enhanced metafile format. The enhanced metafile format provides a format into which documents are readily converted and which occupies a minimal amount of storage space. Each spooled print job is asynchronously printed relative to a program that requested the print job. Such spooled print jobs are de-spooled in a background processor mode. An operating system provides the resources for converting a print job into enhanced metafile format and spooling the print job in the enhanced metafile format.

  • Patent number: 5692111
Abstract: An operating system provides a point-and-print capability to users of the workstation. The point-and-print capability allows a user to print on any printer available within a distributed system by simply selecting a printer and requesting to print on the printer. The retrieval of configuration information and installation of the printer is performed transparently relative to the user of the workstation. The required printer configuration information is retrieved from a database that is maintained at a network server for the network that includes the target printer. A heuristic technique is employed to obtain complete printer configuration information when such printer configuration is not fully available from the network server.
