  • Publication number: 20190069267
Abstract: A method of determining a distance between mobile wireless devices can include determining a format and bandwidth supported by an initiating Station (STA) and a responding Station (STA) and exchanging one or more sets of Null Data Packet (NDP) frames between the initiating Station (STA) and the responding Station (STA) using the determined format and bandwidth. The distance between the initiating Station (STA) and the responding Station (STA) can then be determined based on timing measurements of the one or more sets of Null Data Packet (NDP) frames exchanged between the initiating Station (STA) and the responding Station (STA).

  • Publication number: 20190045537
Abstract: A method of data acknowledgement includes: transmitting data from a wireless station, transmitting a Block Acknowledgement Request (BAR) from the wireless station, and receiving a Block Acknowledgement (BA) by the wireless station. In one example, the step of transmitting BAR by the wireless station requests an acknowledgment for transmitted data with an access category that has the same priority as the a primary access category. In another example, the step of transmitting BAR by the wireless station requests an acknowledgment for transmitted data with an access category that has the same or higher priority than a primary access category. A wireless device includes at least one transceiver to exchange data with another wireless device, at least one processor, and a memory storing instructions that, when executed by the one or more processors, cause the wireless device to: transmit data, transmit a Block Acknowledgement Request (BAR), and receive a Block Acknowledgement (BA).

  • Publication number: 20190029037
Abstract: A method of STA-initiated uplink (UL) aggregation is proposed in a wireless communication system. Under the STA-initiated UL aggregation, an STA can gain access to the medium through contention and after winning the TXOP, it passes the TXOP ownership to its AP to allow it to trigger UL MU transmission. Thus, the AP has increased chance of utilizing the medium while maintains fairness to both legacy APs and STAs. In addition, once AP takes over ownership of the TXOP, if it detects idle secondary channels, it can enable UL aggregation over the idle secondary channels, thereby fully utilizing the entire system bandwidth.

  • Patent number: 10104493
Abstract: A method of indoor positioning using Fine Timing Measurement (FTM) protocol with multi-antenna access point (AP) is proposed. In a wireless local area network, an AP has multiple antennas that are strategically located in different physical locations. The AP is used to exchange FTM frames with a wireless station for timing measurement of the FTM frames via its multiple antennas independently. The timing measurement result (e.g., timestamps of transmitting and receiving FTM frames) is then used to determine an absolute location of the station. A simplified Indoor Location operation with simplified deployment is achieved.

  • Patent number: 10091822
Abstract: A method of improved allocation of uplink resources in an OFDMA network is proposed. A wireless communications station (an AP) reserves both dedicated resource and contention resource for uplink OFDMA operation for a list of communications devices (STAs). The AP can switch between random access operation and non-random access operation without the need for any special protection mechanisms. In the event of an increase in uplink OFDMA frame collisions the AP can switch from random operation to non-random operation to reduce the number of collisions. In the event of a decrease in uplink OFDMA frame collisions the AP can switch from non-random operation to random operation to reduce required AP processing. The AP can also dynamically control a STA access probability to reduce the number of collisions by reducing the number of uplink OFDMA frames each STA transmits.

  • Patent number: 10051588
Abstract: A method of mitigating inter-BSS interference via synchronized inter-BSS operation is proposed. By aligning the transmission of UL and DL transmission in two overlapping OBSSs, the inter-BSS STA-to-STA and inter-BSS AP-to-AP types of interference can be eliminated. Furthermore, based on the BSS overlapping geometry and the STA location, different interference mitigation schemes can be applied to mitigate inter-BSS AP-to-STA and inter-BSS STA-to-AP types of interference.

  • Patent number: 9923702
Abstract: A method of downlink multi-sector transmission is provided. An initiator station first performs sector training by transmitting a plurality of sounding signals to a plurality of responder stations in a wireless network. The coverage associated with the initiator station is partitioned into a plurality of sectors, and each sector is covered by a sectorized beam. The initiator station then receives sector ID feedback information from each responder station in response to the sounding signals. The sector ID feedback information indicates preference to each of the sectors from each responder station. Next, the initiator station groups multiple spatially orthogonal responder stations together based on the sector ID feedback information. Finally, the initiator station performs multi-sector transmission by simultaneously transmitting data to the multiple responder stations in different sectors using corresponding sectorized beams.

  • Publication number: 20180020367
Abstract: Systems and methods of providing Basis Service Set (BSS) load information pertinent to multi-user (MU) communications in WLAN systems. An access point (AP) can determine the counts of MU-capable user stations (STAs) active STAs in a BSS. Each MU-capable STA is configured for Multi-User Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MU-MIMO) communications and/or Orthogonal Frequency-Division Multiple Access (OFDMA) communications. The AP can further determine ratios of PPDU time over an observation period of MU uplink (UL) and downlink (DL) communications, respectively. The AP can further determine an underutilization level of each available frequency subband, the underutilization level integrating the actual underutilization in terms of both spatial streams and frequency subbands. The DL and UL underutilization levels can be separately determined and reported. The MU BSS load information can be included in a beacon frame as a BSS load information element and distributed to user STAs periodically.

  • Patent number: 9774645
Abstract: A method of managing BSS network loading is proposed. An access point (AP) transmits BSS session time and data limit element in beacon or probe response frame or a response frame to a service request frame. The AP determines the session time and data limit according to the network load and AP resourced. The AP adjusts the session time and data limit dynamically. An STA decides whether to join a specific BSS based on the BSS session time and the BSS session data limit. AP encourages or discourages the STA to join the BSS by increasing or reducing the session time and data limit. The per-AP loading will be distributed according to AP's capabilities.
