  • Patent number: 6658019
Abstract: In a wireless video transmission method for transmitting a video stream on wireless communication networks, the video stream is classified into at least two classes of sensitivity, each corresponding to a sensitive class of data. Each sensitive class of data is optionally advanced an ahead time for starting transmission based on the corresponding class of sensitivity. Then, an automatic repeat of data is optionally applied on each sensitive class of data based on the corresponding class of sensitivity, thereby providing an enhanced error protective capability and reducing the transmission delay.

  • Publication number: 20030171883
Abstract: A measuring method and system for liquid crystal display driver chips applies a new method to measure voltages of driver chips, and utilizes probability and statistics for analysis and determination so as to yield a rather accurate effect even under noisy environments. Accordingly, analog-to-digital converters can be replaced for faster sampling. The measuring method and system can be implemented using comparator circuits or pin electronics cards so that the measuring procedure for driver chips is simplified. Measured results are analyzed and verified by application of probability and statistics. As such, testing of liquid crystal display driver chips is more accurate, testing time is reduced, and accuracy level is promoted.

  • Patent number: 6304119
Abstract: A timing generating apparatus includes a master timing module adapted to receive an external reference clock and to generate a coarse timing pulse signal. A slave timing module is coupled electrically to the master timing module and receives the coarse timing pulse signal, from which a fine timing pulse signal is generated. A calibration module coupled electrically to the master timing module and the slave timing module receives the coarse timing pulse signal and the fine timing pulse signal, determines a phase difference value between the two, and generates a phase compensation signal corresponding to difference between the phase difference value and a predetermined phase difference value. The slave timing module includes a delay control unit and a voltage-controlled delay unit, which introduce a phase delay into the coarse timing pulse signal so as to generate the fine timing pulse signal.

  • Patent number: 6225186
Abstract: A method for fabricating a LOCOS isolation in accordance with the present invention, involves first forming a masking layer on the active region of a silicon substrate. Next, the masking layer is used as the etching mask and the silicon substrate is etched to form a recess. Then, a thin nitride layer is formed on the masking layer and the recess. Afterwards, a polysilicon layer is deposited on the thin nitride layer. Then, an etching process is applied to etch back the polysilicon and the thin nitride layer, thereby exposing the upper surface of the masking layer. Next, a LOCOS isolation is grown above the recess.

  • Patent number: 5946096
Abstract: A new method for measuring refractive index, small angle, pressure or temperature is disclosed. The method of the present invention utilizes a heterodyne interferometry technique to measure the phase difference between s-(vertical) and p-(horizontal) polarizations, and then substitutes the difference into Fresnel's equations so as to obtain the physical values of the medium to be tested, such as refractive index, small angle, pressure or temperature.

  • Patent number: 5908988
Abstract: An incident ray is emitted into a vacuum probe manufactured by a transparent material inside a cavity and is totally reflected according to the invention. Based on Fresnel's equation, when an angle of incidence is fixed, the phase difference between a s-polarized light and p-polarized light is a function of two refractive indexes on the both sides of an interface. Therefore, when the refractive index of gas inside the cavity varies with pressure therein, the phase difference between the s-polarized light and p-polarized light can be measured by a total-internal-reflection heterodyne interfermetry. Next, the refractive index of the vacuum cavity can be estimated based on the variation of the phase difference. Then, the pressure inside the cavity is obtained from the measured refractive index of the vacuum cavity cooperating a known pressure contrast list, so that vacuum degree inside the cavity is known.

  • Patent number: 5900919
Abstract: A mask matching approach to detect shot changes in MPEG coded video uses reference ratio variances of macroblocks between MPEG coded frames. A function is designed to quantize the results into shot change probability values. Moreover, a conversion function modifies this probability computation to minimize misdetection and loss of detection under unusual image pattern situations. A shot change probability threshold is defined for the video to be examined. When a frame's modified shot change probability exceeds this threshold, the frame is considered to contain a shot change. With this approach, processing time is reduced by evaluating MPEG coded data directly, rather than the raw video.

  • Patent number: 5164954
Abstract: A traveling-wave ring-laser (10) to provide improved power stability single longitudinal mode characteristics, narrow lasing linewidth and smooth wavelength tuning. The ring-laser comprises an optical amplifier (12) that includes a first facet (16) and a second facet (42). Optical amplifier (12) generates laser light from first facet (16) ring-laser (10) directs a portion of the laser light from first facet (16) back into second facet (42). An Faraday rotator (32) and half-wave plate (30) direct a portion of laser light that second facet (42) receives to travel in one direction only from first facet (16) to second facet (42). By feeding back input from optical amplifier (12) first facet 16 into second facet 42, lasing occurs. Causing laser light from first facet (16) to travel in one direction provides for smooth wavelength tuning and stable power performance single longitudinal mode and narrow-linewidth characteristics in laser system (10).
