  • Patent number: 6362563
Abstract: A cathode for use in an electron gun includes a base metal comprising Ni as a principal component and a two-layer electron emissive material disposed on the base metal. The inner layer is comprised of an alkaline earth metal oxide and 1-30 wt. % W and may further include 0.1-5 wt. % of a rare earth metal oxide. The outer layer is comprised of an alkaline earth metal oxide and may further include 0.1-5 wt. % of a rare earth metal oxide. The outer electron emissive layer provides stability for the cathode. In the degassing and activation process, W and Ni react at high temperatures to form a Ni4W fine crystal structure. An intermediate layer, such as Ba2SiO4, is dispersed in the Ni4W fine crystal structure in operation. Free barium is produced in reactions between the various cathode components to provide a high current density for the cathode. The normalized electron emission current value of the cathode does not decrease with use, even over extended periods of operation.

  • Patent number: 6361911
Abstract: A new method is provided for E-beam exposure. A new method is provided for variable shaped E-beam (VSB) and Gaussian laser and E-beam exposure systems. The conventional main pattern is, under the method of the invention involving VSB, surrounded on all sides by a dummy frame whereby the dummy frame limits the beam size of the exposure shots that are adjacent to the main pattern. All patterns that are created in this manner are therefore composites using the same exposure shot. This improves the CD uniformity of the pattern by reducing the shot linearity error for VSB exposure systems. For Gaussian beam exposure systems, the exposure shots are at times located exactly over the exposed figure. Typically, gray level is used to simulate the small figure, this however induces proximity effects. The method of the invention therefore also improves the proximity effect of the Gaussian beam exposure systems.

  • Publication number: 20020034838
Abstract: A mass-production packaging means suitable for mass-production packaging of an organic luminescent display. An organic electroluminescent display panel on which an organic luminescent device has been formed is first provided. Then, an UV laser is used to clean the surface of the organic electroluminescent display panel. A molding compound is applied on the organic electroluminescent display panel by a sizing system. Subsequently, a lid is aligned with the organic electroluminescent display panel and lamination is performed. Finally, the molding compound is irradiated with UV light to be cured. The package is thus completed.

  • Publication number: 20020034618
Abstract: A beaded light dispersing film has a substrate layer, and an optically transparent layer, having a predetermined thickness, disposed over a side of the substrate layer. Optically transmitting beads are arranged to penetrate at least partially into the transparent layer to define clear apertures at interfaces between the beads and the transparent layer. The bead radius is greater than the predetermined thickness. An absorbing layer is disposed on the transparent layer, in interstices between the beads. A method of manufacturing the film includes disposing optically transparent beads partially in an optically transparent layer disposed over a transparent substrate layer. The optically transparent layer has a thickness less than half a diameter of a transparent bead. An absorbing layer overlies the optically transparent layer.

  • Publication number: 20020034748
Abstract: This invention relates in general to a method for molecular fingerprinting. The method can be used for forensic identification (e.g. DNA fingerprinting, especially by VNTR), bacterial typing, and human/animal pathogen diagnosis. More particularly, molecules such as polynucleotides (e.g. DNA) can be assessed or sorted by size in a microfabricated device that analyzes the polynucleotides according to restriction fragment length polymorphism. In a microfabricated device according to the invention, DNA fragments or other molecules can be rapidly and accurately typed using relatively small samples, by measuring for example the signal of an optically-detectable (e.g., fluorescent) reporter associated with the polynucleotide fragments.

  • Patent number: 6358014
Abstract: Increased impact resistance capability is achieved in a cost and weight efficient manner by providing a spinner made of a 3-D orthogonal woven composite material. The spinner defines a generally conical shell having a plurality of axial rib stiffeners and at least one circumferential rib stiffener integrally formed thereon. The combination of the integral rib stiffeners with the 3-D orthogonal woven composite material results in a substantially greater torsional stiffness. The use of the 3-D orthogonal woven composite material also eliminates delamination found in laminated composite spinners.

  • Patent number: 6358205
Abstract: The front-end gain of a medical diagnostic ultrasonic imaging system receiver is adaptively set by acquiring receive samples that vary in range, generating a gain function that varies in range as a function of envelope amplitude of the receive samples, and then controlling the front-end gain with the gain function. In this way, front-end gain is set in accordance with the currently prevailing imaging conditions, and front-end gain that is excessively high or low is avoided. Transmitter gain is adaptively set to limit or prevent front-end gain saturation of the receiver.

  • Publication number: 20020032865
Abstract: A server/overlay network architecture and related method prevent (i.e., minimize the likelihood of) overloads from many network clients all trying to upload data files to a common destination server on the network at about the same time. Before a client transfers its (his or her) data file to the common network destination, a unique identifier (generally much smaller than the data itself) for the data of that client is generated. The unique identifier, such as a one-way hash function, is transmitted to an authenticator trusted by the common destination. The authenticator time-stamps (i.e., stores time and date) the unique identifier, digitally signs a message incorporating the unique identifier and the time-stamp and sends the message to the client who sent the unique identifier. The client then sends the data file with its time stamp to one of a plurality of upload proxy servers. The proxy server sends a message to the common destination telling it to pick up the data file when ready.

  • Patent number: 6357022
Abstract: Memory modules such as SIMMs and DIMMs are automatically tested by a target-system motherboard such as a PC motherboard. An automated SIMM/DIMM handler is connected to a handler adaptor board that is mounted to the back or solder-side of the PC motherboard. The relatively flat surface of the solder-side of the PC motherboard allows close mounting of the handler. One or more of the SIMM sockets on the motherboard is removed to provide mounting holes for the handler adaptor board. The handler adaptor board provides electrical connection from the module-under-test (MUT) in the handler to the removed SIMM socket on the PC motherboard. The handler adaptor board provides a slight spacing or offset from the solder-side surface of the PC motherboard's substrate, allowing the handler to be plugged directly into tester-connectors on the handler adaptor board.

  • Patent number: 6353941
Abstract: The child's light weight portable toilet seat is designed to be used on top of a standard, commercial adult toilet seat and to provide a safe, stable, ergonomic seating area. The seat is slim, small and light enough to be carried by a child of toilet-training age. It has also been test fitted and may be used on many types of adult toilet seats, including those used in airplanes and boats, for true portability. The seat is molded from a single piece of plastic and has a formed bottom surface which is free of ribs and edges that could catch dirt. The lack of hinges or folds in the seat precludes pinching of the child's skin and reduces potential structural weakness. The absence of cleats or clips makes installation easy for either child or adult. The lack of ribs and edges on the bottom makes the seat more sanitary than existing seats. The seat fits over the front portion of the adult seat rather than being centered over the bowl and, thus, is a more ergonomic seating position for a child.
