  • Publication number: 20020019123
Abstract: In many mixed-signal or radio frequency Rf applications, inductors and capacitors are needed at the same time. For a high performance inductor devices, a thick metal layer is needed to increase performance, usually requiring an extra masking process. The present invention describes both a structure and method of fabricating both copper metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors and thick metal inductors, simultaneously, with only one mask, for high frequency mixed-signal or Rf, CMOS applications, in a damascene and dual damascene trench/via process. High performance device structures formed by this invention include: parallel plate capacitor bottom metal (CBM) electrodes and capacitor top metal (CTM) electrodes, metal-insulator-metal (MIM) capacitors, thick inductor metal wiring, interconnects and contact vias.

  • Publication number: 20020019012
Abstract: A method and apparatus for predicting a signal peptide cleavage site associated with an amino acid sequence is provided. The system determines a size (X+Y) for a scanning window based on a positive training data set and a negative training data set. The scanning window has a signal peptide portion of length X and a mature protein portion of length Y. The training data set is indicative of a plurality of amino acid sequences with known peptide cleavage sites. The method then scans the window across the amino acids from an amino acid sequence suspected of containing a signal peptide looking for the most likely cleavage site based on the training data.

  • Patent number: 6346449
Abstract: A method for fabricating a junction for a field effect transistor which does not cause distortion of the sidewall spacers during subsequent processing thereby reducing junction depletion and source to drain leakage. The process begins by providing a substrate structure having a gate thereon. Sidewall spacers are formed on the sidewalls of the gate. Impurity ions are implanted into the substrate structure adjacent to the gate to form source and drain regions. A resist protect oxide layer is formed over the substrate structure. The resist protect oxide is patterned by forming a mask over the resist protect oxide layer having an opening over the gate and the source and drain regions. The resist protect oxide layer is selectively etched; thereby removing the resist protect oxide over the source and drain regions without distorting the sidewall spacers. A silicide region is formed on the source and drain regions using a salicide process comprising a pre-amorphous implant and one or more rapid thermal anneal steps.

  • Patent number: 6344263
Abstract: A beaded light dispersing film has a substrate layer, and an optically transparent layer, having a predetermined thickness, disposed over a side of the substrate layer. Optically transmitting beads are arranged to penetrate at least partially into the transparent layer to define clear apertures at interfaces between the beads and the transparent layer. The bead radius is greater than the predetermined thickness. An absorbing layer is disposed on the transparent layer, in interstices between the beads. A method of manufacturing the film includes disposing optically transparent beads partially in an optically transparent layer disposed over a transparent substrate layer. The optically transparent layer has a thickness less than half a diameter of a transparent bead. An absorbing layer overlies the optically transparent layer.

  • Publication number: 20020008221
Abstract: A float valve mounted to a tank body made of a synthetic resin. A welding flange provided on a cover made of a synthetic resin having a large swelling rate is welded to an outer periphery of an opening defined in an upper wall of a tank body made of a synthetic resin having a large swelling rate, so that the cover covers the opening, and a fixing flange provided at an upper portion of a protector having a small swelling rate for supporting the float case of the float valve by a concavo-convex engagement is fixed between the outer periphery of the opening of the tank body and the welding flange of the cover. The protector is formed of the synthetic resin having the small swelling rate and, hence, it is possible to reliably prevent the float case from being dropped out due to the swelling of the protector.

  • Patent number: 6340673
Abstract: The present invention relates to methods of treatment of programmed cell death (apoptosis) through the use of the HSV-1 gene &ggr;134.5 or the product of its expression, ICP34.5. The gene and its expression have been demonstrated to be required for HSV-1 neurovirulence, and in particular, to act as an inhibitor of neuronal programmed cell death which allows for viral replication. Use of the gene therapy, or the protein itself, can be expected to result in inhibition of programmed cell death in various neurodegenerative diseases. This invention also relates to novel vectors for gene therapy, including modified herpes virus. Methods are presented for conducting assays for substances capable of mimicing, potentiating or inhibiting the expression of &ggr;134.5 or the activity of ICP34.5. Also, methods are disclosed for the treatment of tumorogenic diseases, including cancer, and for treatment of herpes and other viral infections using inhibitors of &ggr;134.5 expression or ICP34.5 activity.
