A handler is installed at a periphery of the lower polishing pad to advantage a renewal process. An upper polishing pad is disposed on the lower polishing pad, again, concentrically to the turning table. The upper polishing pad has a radius between a covering range of polishing dresser (conditioner) and a covering range of a top ring. Therefore, while initiating, the projecting portions are not formed on the composite polishing pad, so that the manually notching step is skipped.

An aperture is formed in the metal layer and in the polymeric layer by removing a portion of the metal layer and a portion of the polymeric layer disposed over the end of the waveguide.

Then, selective epitaxial growth regions are formed on the active area and the gate electrode.     Abstract: The present invention provides a method for forming and etching a resist protect oxide layer, of which provides improved etch selectivity to a shallow trench isolation and an increased pre-metal dip processing window. The process begins by forming a shallow trench isolation on a semiconductor substrate. The semiconductor substrate has a first area and a second area separated by the shallow trench isolation. A gate is formed on the semiconductor substrate in the first area, adjacent to the shallow trench isolation. In a key step, a resist protect oxide layer comprising a thin silicon oxide layer and an overlying thin nitrogen containing layer, is deposited over the semiconductor substrate, the gate, and the shallow trench isolation. The thin nitrogen containing layer can be composed of silicon nitride or silicon oxynitride.

    Abstract: An improved method for the strengthening of the bond strength of a bioactive ceramic coating for a surgical implant is provided where the metallic core material is exposed to a cooling treatment prior to thermal spraying. The metallic core material, or the metallic core material with an inner ceramic layer, when more than one layer of ceramic is to be coated, is cooled to a temperature preferably in the range of −10 to 10° C. before each layer of ceramic is applied by thermally spraying on the material. By use of the cooling treatment in the method, the bond strength of the thermally-sprayed coating(s) on the surgical implant can be increased.
