  • Patent number: 7644699
Abstract: A fuel system for an internal combustion engine includes at least one first fuel pump and a pressure region into which the fuel pump pumps and which communicates with an elastic volume reservoir. The elastic volume reservoir has a characteristic pressure/volume curve, which is defined by at least two points. It is proposed that a first point is defined by a first volume at a first pressure that is somewhat greater than a vapor pressure of the fuel at ambient temperature, and that a second point is defined by a second volume and a second pressure in the pressure region that corresponds to a maximum pressure; the difference between the first and second volumes corresponds at least approximately and at least to a value by which the volume of the fuel in the pressure region decreases upon cooling down from a maximum temperature to ambient temperature.

  • Publication number: 20090311913
Abstract: The invention relates to a test holder for fixing the position of a microchip in a microchip contactor, having a base frame and a pressing unit, which is connected to the base frame such that it can be pivoted open or shut and which comprises a pressure body designed to interact with the microchip. In order to press the microchip all over with a uniform pressure onto the contactor, even if the microchip is inclined with respect to the pressing means when it is contacted with the contactor, the invention provides that the pressure body may be tilted about a first and a second tilting axis.

  • Patent number: 7536997
Abstract: In a method for operating an internal combustion engine (10) equipped with a piston pump as a high-pressure pump (18), which is driven by a drive shaft (28) of the engine (10), in which the high-pressure pump (18) delivers fuel from a low-pressure region (16) to a high-pressure side (38) and a quantity control valve (44) sets the quantity of fuel delivered by the high-pressure pump (18), the acoustic emission of the high-pressure pump is reduced by virtue of the fact that the high-pressure pump (18) functions in a two-point operation, alternating between full delivery for individual or successive piston strokes and idle delivery for individual or successive piston strokes and, when the pressure falls below a lower pressure threshold, the full delivery is activated until an upper pressure threshold is reached.

  • Publication number: 20080249699
Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for operating an injection device (5) for an internal combustion engine, the injection device (5) including injection valves (40), via which fuel is injected directly into combustion chambers (100) of the internal combustion engine. Means are provided for detecting misfirings (310), and for determining a fuel pressure (320). A mechanical fault of an injection valve (40) is detected when a misfire occurs in a cylinder (110) and the fuel pressure simultaneously drops below a threshold value (SW). An electrical fault in an injection device (5) is detected when misfirings of cylinders (110) assigned to an output stage bank of the injection device (5) are observed, and the fuel pressure has dropped below a threshold value (SW). The responses to the faults that are implemented differ depending on the faults that were detected.

Abstract: A method is provided for the production of gas turbine rotors with integrated blading. In a first step, rotating blades are produced. Subsequently, at least one of the produced rotating blade blanks is connected to the rotor bearing, then the or each of the rotating blade blanks connected to the rotor bearing are processed to form a nominal shape of the or each rotating blade. • Patent number: 7100361
Abstract: An operating method for an internal combustion engine is described, especially for a motor vehicle, in which, in a first operating mode, fuel is injected preferably for heating a catalytic converter and, in at least one further operating mode, into a combustion chamber. In order to prevent a sudden change in the torque produced by the internal combustion engine during the switchover from/to the first operating mode, a distribution factor influencing torque is taken into account in an actual branch and/or in a setpoint branch of controller of the internal combustion engine.

  • Publication number: 20030168036
Abstract: A method and an arrangement for controlling an operating variable of an internal combustion engine are suggested. A controller is provided which, in dependence upon a control deviation, generates an output signal for controlling the operating variable with this output signal being generated in accordance with at least one changing parameter. In dependence upon the operating mode (stratified operation, homogeneous operation, homogeneous lean operation), the value of this at least one parameter is switched over to values adapted specifically to the path in the particular mode of operation.

  • Patent number: 6575133
Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and an arrangement for monitoring the operation of a gas flow control element in an internal combustion engine. In this method, the engine rough running is detected and at least one rough-running signal is formed which represents the rough running of the engine. Then, by driving the gas flow control element, a change of the position of the gas flow control element is attempted. Then, a detection of the rough-running signals as a function of the change of the position of the gas flow control element takes place. The change of position is intended by the driving of the gas flow control element. From the above, a function signal can be derived which provides information as to the operation of the gas flow control element. The diagnosis of a gas flow control element by evaluation of the engine rough running in engine controls (which anyway have units for forming rough-running values) permits a diagnosis of the above kind without separate sensors for function monitoring.

  • Patent number: 6539914
Abstract: An internal combustion engine is provided with an injection valve with which fuel can be injected directly into a combustion chamber either during a compression phase in a first operating mode or during an intake phase in a second operating mode. In addition, a control unit is provided for shifting between the two operating modes and for differentiated control and/or regulation of the performance quantities that influence the actual torque of the internal combustion engine as a function of a setpoint torque in both operating modes. A change in the actual torque during a shifting operation is determined by the control unit, and at least one of the performance quantities is influenced by the control unit as a function thereof.

  • Patent number: 6512983
Abstract: A method for adjusting the torque in an internal combustion engine is introduced having the steps: determining a desired torque; determining an operating point from measured values for air charge and rpm; determining a standard torque for this operating point; determining a desired efficiency from standard torque and desired torque; determining the lambda corresponding to this efficiency; determining the fuel quantity from the corresponding lambda and the air charge derived from measurement quantities. The fuel quantity in combination with the air charge yields the corresponding lambda for realizing the desired torque.
