  • Patent number: 8428184
Abstract: A method is provided which improves reliability of channel estimation in a digital communication system by reducing the ambiguity in the recognition of received symbols evaluated for the channel estimation. A data word transmitted according to a first mapping of data word values to modulation states is re-transmitted at least once with a second, re-arranged mapping of data word values to modulation states. The second mapping and possible further mappings are generated from the first mapping in a way that the number of different results which can be obtained from combining the transmitted original data symbol and the re-transmitted counterpart data symbol(s) is lower than the number of original modulation states in the first mapping.

  • Publication number: 20130064190
Abstract: This invention relates to signaling of resource assignments in cross-carrier scheduling scenarios. In order to enable cross-carrier scheduling in a mobile communication system using carrier aggregation while avoiding erroneous detection of assigned physical resources that could lead to HARQ soft buffer corruption/degradation of the system throughput, the invention suggests a scheme for explicitly indicating within downlink control information (DCI) including a resource assignment for the downlink (or uplink) the number of OFDM symbol(s) used for control signaling within a sub-frame on a component carrier on which resources are assigned by the DCI. In one exemplary implementation the number of OFDM symbol(s) used for control signaling is the PCFICH values signaled in a 3GPP LTE-A network. The indication of the OFDM symbol(s) within the sub-frame on the assigned component carrier may for example be jointly encoded with other control signaling information, e.g.

  • Patent number: 8391403
Abstract: A method is provided which improves reliability of channel estimation in a digital communication system by reducing the ambiguity in the recognition of received symbols evaluated for the channel estimation. A first plurality of bits is mapped to a modulation state according to a given Gray mapping of binary numbers to modulation states and transmitted. The plurality of bits is re-transmitted at least once, with a sub-set of bits contained in the plurality of bits inverted, and mapped to further modulation states according to the same Gray mapping. The bits to be inverted are determined in a way that the number of different vector sum results obtainable, for all combinations of bit values within the first plurality of bits, by adding vectors representing complex values of the first and further modulation states in a complex plane, is lower than the number of different modulation states within the Gray mapping.

  • Publication number: 20120236814
Abstract: Provided are a radio transmitting apparatus and a control signal transmitting method whereby the number of blind decodings on a control signal receiving side can be reduced without increasing the control signal allocation block rate. In a base station (100), a search space establishing unit (103) establishes two subsets into which a UE-SS established in a second transmission mode different from a first transmission mode has been divided and the number of which is the same as the number of the sub-modes of the first transmission mode, and an allocating unit (106) allocates the mutually different subsets to those two respective sub-modes. Each subset has a plurality of downstream control information allocation area candidates. In this way, the blind decoding area candidates related to DCI format corresponding to each sub-mode can be limited to the subset corresponding to each sub-mode.

  • Publication number: 20120224552
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for informing an eNodeB on the transmit power status of a user equipment in a mobile communication system using component carrier (CC) aggregation. Furthermore, the invention is also related to the implementation of these methods by hardware and their implementation in software. The invention proposes procedures that allow the eNodeB to recognize the power usage status of a UE in a communication system using carrier aggregation. The UE indicates to the eNodeB, when the UE is close to using its total maximum UE transmit power or when it has exceeded same. This is achieved by the UE including indicator(s) and/or new MAC CEs to one or more protocol data units transmitted on respective component carriers within a single sub-frame that is providing the eNodeB with power status information. The MAC CEs may report a per-UE power headroom. Alternatively, the MAC CEs may report per-CC power headrooms and/or power reductions applied to the respective uplink CCs.

  • Publication number: 20120182914
Abstract: The invention relates to methods and apparatuses for providing HARQ feedback in a mobile communication system using carrier aggregation. To suggest a scheme for transmitting feedback on the successful/unsuccessful decoding of transmissions that is operable in FDD mode, the invention proposes to utilize only a single one of plural radio resources available for feedback transmission for signaling feedback for multiple transmissions. A feedback sequence of ACK/NACKs for the transmissions is mapped to one feedback resource combination that is one of the radio resources available for feedback transmission and a modulation symbol of the given modulation scheme that is transmitted on said one radio resource. This scheme can also be used in cases where the number of possible feedback sequences of ACK/NACKs for the transmissions is larger than the number of feedback resource combinations available for feedback transmission.
