  • Patent number: 8068845
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for balancing the distribution of interference between radio cells in a wireless communication system comprising cells in which subcarrier blocks are used for communication. A number of adjacent cells build a cell cluster. Moreover, the present invention relates to a corresponding method adapted for use in a system in which multi beam antennas or multiple antennas are used. Furthermore, the present invention relates to base stations performing the above method as well as a communication system comprising the base stations. To reduce the large average SIR variations without causing additional SIR estimation, measurement and calculation problem as introduced with power control the invention suggests to group subcarrier blocks into a plurality of subcarrier block sets in each cell of a cell cluster, to determine transmission power levels for each of the cells of said cell cluster, and to assign transmission power levels to the subcarrier block sets.

  • Publication number: 20110275398
Abstract: Provided is a radio communication base station device which can prevent lowering of use efficiency of a channel communication resource for performing a frequency diversity transmission when simultaneously performing a frequency scheduling transmission and the frequency diversity transmission in a multicarrier communication. In the device, a modulation unit (12) executes a modulation process on Dch data after encoded so as to generate a Dch data symbol. A modulation unit (22) executes a modulation process on the encoded Lch data so as to generate an Lch data symbol. An allocation unit (103) allocates the Dch data symbol and the Lch data symbol to respective sub carriers constituting an OFDM symbol and outputs them to a multiplexing unit (104). Here, when a plurality of Dch are used for a Dch data symbol of one mobile station, the allocation unit (103) uses Dch of continuous channel numbers.

  • Publication number: 20110255623
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for transmitting and receiving a data bit stream in a communication system using 16-QAM constellations. Further, an apparatus for performing the methods is provided. To improve the bit-error rate performance of the communication using the 16-QAM constellations the invention suggests the use 16-QAM constellations with specially selected mapping rules together with a special constellation rearrangement for creating different versions of the 16-QAM constellations. Further, the data stream is transmitted according to a diversity scheme employing different versions of the 16-QAM constellations obtained adhering the mapping rules and rearrangement rules defined by the invention.

  • Patent number: 8036309
Abstract: A method is provided which improves reliability of channel estimation in a digital communication system by reducing the ambiguity in the recognition of received symbols evaluated for the channel estimation. A data word transmitted according to a first mapping of data word values to modulation states is re-transmitted at least once with a second, re-arranged mapping of data word values to modulation states. The second mapping and possible further mappings are generated from the first mapping in a way that the number of different results which can be obtained from combining the transmitted original data symbol and the re-transmitted counterpart data symbol(s) is lower than the number of original modulation states in the first mapping.

  • Publication number: 20110223924
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for deactivating a semi-persistent resource allocation of a user equipment in an LTE-based mobile communication system. Furthermore, the invention also related to a user equipment and a eNode B implementing this method. To provide a mechanism for deactivating a semi-persistent resource allocation in a LTE system which is not requiring any changes to the Physical layer-to-MAC layer interface and/or preferably no changes to the PDCCH formats agreed by the 3GPP a combination of NDI value and MCS index is defined that is commanding the release of SPS resources. Alternatively, another solution proposed to define a special transport block size that when signaled in a PDCCH is commanding the release of SPS resources.

  • Publication number: 20110211545
Abstract: It is an object to provide a wireless communication base station device that can prevent the decline of a system throughput due to the degradation of a utilization efficiency of a communication resource of a channel for carrying out a frequency diversity transmission when a frequency scheduling transmission and a frequency diversity transmission are concurrently carried out in multiple carrier communication. In the wireless communication base station device, a modulation unit (12) carries out modulation processing for Dch data after coding to generate a Dch data symbol. A modulation unit (22) carries out modulation processing for Lch data after coding to generate an Lch data symbol. • Publication number: 20110206164
Abstract: The invention relates to methods for transmitting and receiving a data bit stream in a communication system using a 16-QAM constellation. Further, an apparatus for performing the methods is provided. To provide a modulation and coding scheme using a signal space expansion and 16-QAM which improves the bit-error rate in comparison to QPSK modulated signals and still provides the possibility to implement coders and decoders with low complexity the invention suggests the use a 16-QAM constellation with specially selected mapping rules together with repetition coding (signal space expansion) and interleaving of the data stream to be transmitted.

  • Publication number: 20110206147
Abstract: In a mobile communication system with uncorrelated channel characteristics, transmission using modulation of data symbols with repetition can improve the performance. However, mapping of the original and the repeated symbols into the physical resources may on the other hand reduce a desired level of diversity when the original and the corresponding repeated symbols map on the physical resources close to each other. The present invention provides a method for transmission, a transmitter, a method for receiving, and a receiver capable of efficiently transmit/receive data symbols with an increased level of diversity. This is achieved by grouping of portions of the original and the corresponding data symbols and by mapping the portions of the original and the corresponding data symbols into the different physical resource blocks.

  • Patent number: 8000410
Abstract: A method is disclosed for digital data transmission using higher order modulation schemes, wherein a plurality of bits is mapped to bit positions of a symbol and the transmission has different error probabilities for at least two out of said bit positions. A data bit is mapped to a bit position in a first modulation scheme and transmitted in a symbol on the mapped bit position of the first modulation scheme. When a request is received from a receiver, for re-transmission of a data block containing this data bit, a decision is made about a re-transmission of said bit, based on a reliability of the bit position in the first transmission, and if it is decided to retransmit the bit, the data bit is mapped to a bit position of a second modulation scheme and retransmitted in a symbol on the mapped bit position of the second modulation scheme.

  • Patent number: 7961814
Abstract: The invention relates to method and apparatus for generating modulation symbols according to a second symbol mapping scheme by a symbol mapping unit being adapted to generate symbols according to a first symbol mapping scheme, wherein the first and second symbol mapping schemes define different mappings of data words of a stream to modulation symbols of a modulation scheme according to the respective symbol mapping scheme. Further, the invention relates to a method and apparatus for generating a mapping of data words to modulation symbols of a square 16 QAM constellation, the modulation symbols being representable by an inphase component and quadrature component. One aspect of the invention is the introduction of a bit sequence transformer unit transforming the data words to be mapped to modulation symbols prior to mapping thereby changing the Hamming distance properties of the mapping. Another aspect of the invention is the generation of a new AICO (Antipodal Inverted COnstellation) mapping scheme.
