  • Publication number: 20060034175
Abstract: In case a transmission of a MAC-hs PDU is aborted and all the RLC PDUs contained therein are discarded, delays may occur since these lost PDUs have to be retransmitted on RLC protocol level resulting in considerable delay since the Iub and Iur text interfaces have to be passed. According to an exemplary embodiment of the present invention, a transmission abortion is determined and a reduced number of data packets contained in the container which transmission has been aborted are put into another container provided with the same sequence as the proceeding aborted container and sent to the receiver. Advantageously, due to the fact that this second container may have a reduced amount of data packets contained and/or may have a reduced length, a probability that this second container is received error free at the receiving side is increased.

  • Patent number: 6992976
Abstract: The invention relates to a packet transmission network operating according to a packet switching method, comprising a plurality of network nodes coupled via at least two rings working in opposite directions which each have in status tables entries about the location of a defect and switched loops from one ring to another ring in a network node. After detecting a repaired defect, a network node changes an entry in its status table and transmits a repair message of this type about the location of the repaired defect to all the network nodes that can be reached.

  • Publication number: 20050232177
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for controlling the transmission power employed by a transmitting unit for transmitting multicast signals via a radio interface to communication devices of a multicast group using a single physical channel. In order to enable an efficient power control, it is proposed that at least the communication device receiving the weakest multicast signals transmits power control commands to the transmitting unit. Further, it is proposed that the transmitting unit adjusts the transmission power based on power control commands received from at least one of the communication devices in a way that the power control commands of the communication device receiving the multicast signals with the lowest quality have the most significant influence on the adjustment. The invention relates equally to a corresponding transmitting unit, to a corresponding communication device and to a corresponding communication system.

  • Patent number: 6901104
Abstract: A wireless network is disclosed including at least one base station and a plurality of assigned terminals for exchanging user data and control data. The base station is arranged for transmitting the start time of at least one signaling sequence of at least terminal. For evaluating the signaling sequences transmitted by the terminals, the base station includes a device for correlating a received signaling sequence and for detecting the pulse evolving from a received and correlated signaling sequence. • Publication number: 20040202144
Abstract: The invention relates to a wireless network comprising terminals and an assigned central station, which network, after receiving requests for the wireless transmission of packets between a transmitting and a receiving terminal during a time multiplex frame, is provided for assigning time slots of a following time multiplex frame for the wireless transmission of packets from a transmitting to a receiving terminal. After reception of all the requests the central station determines a first subset which contains all the transmitting terminals that intend to transmit packets to a plurality of receiving terminals, and a second subset of the rest which contains the transmitting terminals. The order in which the transmitting terminals of the first subset transmit is determined in accordance with the decreasing number of receiving terminals assigned to a transmitting terminal.

  • Publication number: 20040170192
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of transmitting data packets between a transmitter and a receiver, wherein the receiver is designed for sending a positive acknowledge message to the transmitter when a data packet is received free from errors, wherein the receiver is designed for sending a negative acknowledge message to the transmitter when a data packet is received with errors, wherein the receiver is designed for sending a repeat message to the transmitter for requesting a repeated transmission of a data packet if no repeated transmission of the relevant data packet takes place in spite of a negative acknowledge message sent by the receiver, and wherein the transmitter is designed for the repeated transmission of a data packet whenever the transmitter has received a negative acknowledge message or a repeat message.

  • Patent number: 6751196
Abstract: Centrally controlled wireless networks require reliable communications between the central controller and each of the stations within the wireless networks. The structure of a wireless network is often dynamic, or ad-hoc, as stations enter and exit the network, or are physically relocated. The selection of the central controller for the network may also be dynamic, either because the current central controller desires to exit the network, or because the communication between the current central controller and one or more of the stations is poor. This invention discloses a method and apparatus for assessing the quality of the communication paths among all stations in the network. This assessment is useful as a continual monitor of the quality of the network, and can be utilized to select an alternative central control station based upon the quality of communication paths to and from this station. Additionally, the quality assessment can be utilized to establish relay communication paths, as required.

  • Publication number: 20040004947
Abstract: The invention relates to a wireless network comprising a radio access network and a plurality of terminals which are each provided for encoding certain data to be transmitted and for forming a key in the same manner in dependence on a first and a second frame number for a connection to be set up or to be reconfigured between the radio access network and a terminal. The first frame number depends on the periodically changing number of the radio frame used for the data transmission and the value of the second frame number depends on the first frame number. Based on the value of the first frame number the terminal and/or the radio access network is provided for ascertaining whether a time delay is to take place in the formation of the second frame number in the radio access network.

  • Publication number: 20020085531
Abstract: The invention relates to a wireless network comprising a radio network controller and a plurality of assigned terminals which are provided for transmitting useful data over logic channels which have different priorities, which are mapped onto exactly one transport channel, respectively. The data transmission over a plurality of combined (multiplexed) transport channels is determined by transport format combinations. The subject matter of the invention is a procedure for selecting the respective most favorable transport format combination at the beginning of a radio frame, given the packet data units waiting in the buffers of the logic channels, as well as a procedure for sorting the logic channels while their priorities, their buffer occupancy and the transmission time interval of the associated transport channel are taken into account.

  • Publication number: 20010024952
Abstract: The invention relates to a wireless network comprising a radio network controller and a plurality of assigned terminals which are used for coding certain data to be transmitted in dependence on a key that can be changed at certain intervals. In the case of a wrongly used key, a terminal sends a predefined number of status messages after all the queues contained in the terminal have been emptied or when a predefined minimum filling level is fallen short of and releases all the resources used when no reconfiguration message has been received from the radio network controller after the status messages have been sent.
