  • Publication number: 20110284642
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for providing a substantially surface independent tagging system are disclosed. A resonant dielectric cavity is defined between upper and lower conducting layers, and closed at one end by a conducting base portion. Incident radiation couples into the cavity and is resonantly enhanced. An electronic device or tag paced at the edge of the cavity experiences a high electric field strength on account of this enhancement and is driven into operation.

  • Patent number: 8060060
Abstract: Systems, products, and methods are disclosed for performing a method of selectively controlling communications through a communications port of a mobile communications device. The system-provider information is useable by the mobile communications device to communicate with a wireless telecommunications network that is designated in the system-provider information. Illustratively, the method includes presenting a user interface on the mobile communications device. The UI exposes an option to enable the communications port to be useable to modify the system-provider information. The mobile communications device can be in a first state that currently prohibits data from being passed through the communications port to the system-provider information. Input is received that is to be used to enable data to be passed through the communications port to the system-provider information.

  • Publication number: 20110265283
Abstract: The disclosure relates to the field of vacuum cleaning and in particular the collection of air-entrained debris, in a filter bag. The filter bag is for use in vacuum cleaning apparatus, and comprises fine planar filtration means in the form of a collection bag and coarse planar filtration means both being adapted to be placed in a suction-induced air stream with the coarse filtration means disposed upstream of the fine filtration means, wherein the fine filtration means serves to provide a fine filter for retaining dust particles and wherein the coarse filtration means comprises a relatively coarse filter material having a thickness of at least 4 mm which provides a matrix volume in which dust may be collected. The volume occupied by the coarse filtration means comprises at least 2%, preferably at least 5%, most preferably at least 10% of the maximum internal volume defined by the collection bag.

  • Publication number: 20110261186
Abstract: A system, method and program adapted for collecting images of job-site conditions, plans and specifications. Images are annotated with attributes that relate to the location, time and trades involved and other aspects of the images. Job site images are collected with a camera connected to a portable data collection device. The portable data collection device is programmed with image attributes for a particular project. Images are also annotated with attributes gathered by sensors, such as GPS position data and direction information. Images with attached attributes are uploaded to a database server and indexed into a relational database. Images can be flagged and determined to be images for review which triggers automatic notification to the involved parties and follow up to confirm resolution. Authorized participants can access images in near real time, to make funding, insurance and other judgments about the project. Images are archived for safekeeping and long-term storage.

  • Publication number: 20110239727
Abstract: A portable tool designed for effective and efficient lateral truing of damaged spoked wheels, in particular bicycle wheels, is described. The tool is mountable on the bicycle frame, and allows the user to position the truing gauge with four spatial degrees of freedom. The inventive tool features a non-rigidly mounted (floating) truing indicator tip to maintain accurate tool alignment when in contact with a rotating wheel rim that is severely bent out the of the plane of the rim by decoupling rim forces from the rest of the tool. In addition, the combination of the floating action of the truing tip and its construction from a soft polymeric material avoids scratching or otherwise marring the surface of the rim during the truing procedure.

  • Publication number: 20110239399
Abstract: The present invention relates to the field of vacuum cleaners and relates in particular to domestic or commercial cleaners which are provided with a bin (or vacuum chamber), rather than a filter bag, to collect air-entrained detritus. According to one aspect of the invention there is provided an insert (20,100) for converting a vacuum cleaner (10) of the aforementioned type so as to make the cleaner capable of operating in a mode in which air-entrained detritus is collected in a filter bag (29,109) located in the vacuum chamber (27), the insert comprising an enclosure (20,21,22,38,100,101) in which the filter bag may be accommodated, which enclosure comprises structural constraint means (21,22,23,24,38,103) which limits vacuum induced expansion of at least a region of the bag and maintains an airflow gap (28,108) between the filter bag outer surface and a vacuum chamber inner wall. The constraint means may in one embodiment be a plurality of inward facing spacer ribs (103).

  • Patent number: 8001181
Abstract: A system is disclosed for messaging between wireless mobile terminals operating on wireless carrier networks and networked computers. The mobile terminals and computers include client applications for communicating messages to one another using push-to-talk modality. A server, located on a packet network outside the wireless carrier networks, forwards messages between the mobile terminals and the computers. The messages consist of text or streaming voice. The server can also include gateways for forwarding messages from the mobile terminals and computers to external email and instant messaging (IM) users. By placing the server outside wireless carrier networks and using conventional packet network protocols such as the Internet protocol (IP), the system provides seamless inter-carrier push-to-talk and/or instant messaging between mobile terminal, networked computers, and users of third-party email and IM services.

  • Publication number: 20110167605
Abstract: System(s), method(s), and device(s) that facilitate efficient removal of a nut(s) from a wheel stud or bolt are presented. A nut removal facilitator device comprises a first arm with a holder component, wherein the first arm is attached to a lever component and a second arm, which includes a force applicator component. A socket of a wrench is placed on a desired nut, with the wrench handle portion near the socket held within the holder component and an end portion of the wrench handle in contact with the force applicator component. A force can be received at the top portion of the lever component is leveraged based on the length of the lever component. The leveraged force is transferred to the force applicator component which applies the transferred force to the wrench handle to move the handle and socket in the desired direction to loosen and remove the nut.

  • Publication number: 20110121948
Abstract: An RF screening apparatus comprising a scanning chamber and an RF inspection device or reader, the chamber having chamber walls which are substantially reflective to radiation at a frequency of operation. The chamber walls or at least a portion of the chamber walls may be visually transparent. This enables visual inspection and identification of the occupant and RF interrogation to be performed, substantially simultaneously if desired. RF interrogation signals produced by the reader reflect off the chamber walls, approaching a target tag from an increased number of different angles, thus increasing the chance of a successful read.
