  • Publication number: 20110037541
Abstract: A device capable of enhancing an electric field to drive an electromagnetic tag into operation is switchable between states to control operation of the tag. Enhancement is provided by a dielectric cavity structure defined between first and second conducting layers. Different states of the device may have different resonant frequencies and read ranges according to the characteristics of the enhancement. As such a container can be provided which includes a tag which switches states on opening, allowing improved tracking characteristics.

  • Publication number: 20110030161
Abstract: The present invention concerns a paint roller comprising a frame having a handle portion and a shaft, a sleeve support rotatably mounted on the shaft for receiving a roller sleeve, and a locking mechanism moveable between a first position in which a paint roller sleeve can be slid over the said support and a second position in which a part of the mechanism is urged against the inside wall of a roller sleeve mounted on the said support in use, whereby to lock the roller sleeve to the frame. The locking mechanism preferably comprises at least one locking element, preferably a resilient element, and first and second axially movable parts which are movable relative to each other to cause the locking element to be urged outwards against the inside wall of a roller sleeve mounted on the support.

  • Patent number: 7880619
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for providing a substantially surface independent tagging system are disclosed. A resonant dielectric cavity is defined between upper and lower conducting layers, and closed at one end by a conducting base portion. Incident radiation couples into the cavity and is resonantly enhanced. An electronic device or tag paced at the edge of the cavity experiences a high electric field strength on account of this enhancement and is driven into operation.

  • Patent number: 7865170
Abstract: An RF radio and a method of monitoring warning alert data is provided. The RF radio includes a radio receiver for receiving broadcast radio wave signals, and a tuner adjustable for selecting radio wave signal channels within AM and FM radio bands and radio wave signal channels within a weather band. The weather band is adapted to provide warning alert data. The radio also includes a controller for controlling the tuner to select a radio wave signal channel within the AM or FM radio band. The controller controls the tuner to periodically switch to the weather band to simultaneously monitor a plurality of weather band channels during an alternate frequency update, and determines presence of warning alert data. The controller further initiates receipt of the warning alert data when such warning alert data is determined to be present.

  • Patent number: 7846099
Abstract: A method of performing a scanning sequence for an ultrasound scan includes establishing a number of ultrasound beams to be transmitted during an ultrasound scan, establishing a pulse repetition interval to be used for performing the ultrasound scan, and establishing a number of firings of each of the ultrasound beams to be performed during the ultrasound scan. The method further includes performing a scanning sequence based on a processing of one or more parameters selected from the group consisting of the number of ultrasound beams, the pulse repetition interval, and the number of firings of the ultrasound beams, wherein the processing of the one or more parameters is configured to provide a continuous interleaving in the transmitted beams thereby avoiding a generation of beam interleaving discontinuities and a formation of artifacts in a resulting image.

  • Publication number: 20100291291
Abstract: This invention relates to the field of an electromagnetic (EM) field shielding paint compositions, in particular, those capable of providing substantially non metallic finish. The paint composition finds particular use in attenuating EM signals that may be used to carry data between communication devices, especially mobile phone and wi-fi devices. EM field shielding paints are typically available in jet-black or bright metallic finishes and usually possess limited scratch & abrasion resistance. The paint composition provides a one-pot solution to furnish a composition which has the visual appearance of a domestic type paint i.e. one with a non-metallic finish, with the ability to shield electromagnetic radiation. The composition comprises a supported metallic flake and a pigment, which have been provided in a narrowly defined range to furnish a desirable non-metallic appearance and possess electromagnetic shielding properties.

  • Patent number: 7808528
Abstract: A variable acuity imager incorporates an array of detection elements for light energy, in the visible, infrared, ultraviolet, or light energy in another region of the electromagnetic spectrum with a means to change the spatial configuration of the array to include “superpixels” by combining energy detected by adjacent elements, thus permitting any number of high-resolution “foveal” regions to be placed within the confines of the focal plane array and moved around at the frame rate of the imaging device. Detectors to measure the pitch, yaw and roll angle rates of background imagery using velocity-sensing circuitry are employed for variation of the foveal regions to accommodate motion of the array.
