  • Patent number: 8516829
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention can provide systems and methods for modifying the operation and/or performance of a gas turbine. According to one embodiment, a method for modifying the performance of a gas turbine comprising one or more combustors can be provided. The method can include measuring a gas exhaust temperature for the gas turbine and estimating a heat transfer rate for the gas turbine based at least in part on the gas exhaust temperature. After estimating the heat transfer rate, the method can continue by estimating a transiently accurate combustion reference temperature and using this parameter to control the one or more combustors of the gas turbine. In doing so, the performance of the gas turbine can be modified to ensure reliable and consistent operation.

  • Publication number: 20120116480
Abstract: A compartmentalized fitting system that may be used by a recipient to determine device parameters, such as threshold and/or maximum comfort levels, for a stimulating medical device is provided. The compartmentalized fitting system segregates the fitting procedure into separate sessions. For example, in an embodiment, the fitting system provides a clinician driven setup session whereby a clinician may specify parameters that are to be used in fitting the medical device. After which, the fitting system may enter a recipient driven fitting session that is used to determine one or device parameters for the stimulating medical device. Once determined, the fitting system passes control to a clinician driven approval session whereby the clinician can approve the determined set of device parameters; and, if approved store the determined device parameters. This storage may comprise loading the determined device parameters onto the stimulating medical device for subsequent use by the device.

  • Publication number: 20070296860
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are described for inserting data in a communications system, such as in an existing analog communications system, using quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) with in-phase analog signals and quadrature data signals. These methods can minimize the distortion to the analog signals while maximizing the data signal strength. The data signals may be sub-modulated on a subcarrier frequency (201) such that the data signals do not interfere with the analog signal detectors in the analog signal receivers, and may be processed with an abatement filter (202) to mitigate the distortion due to Nyquist mismatch in the receiver. The injection phase of data signals may be determined (206) by adaptive algorithms, using a monitor analog signal receiver (103).

  • Publication number: 20070239949
Abstract: A computer implemented method, data processing system, and computer usable code are provided for reclaiming backup data storage space in memory. The process receives a selection to reclaim a set of memory locations associated with a set of backup copies of a selected file. The process searches a plurality of memory locations for the set of memory locations associated with the set of backup copies. The process then removes the data associated with the set of backup copies from the set of memory locations to form a set of reclaimed memory locations. The set of reclaimed memory locations are unoccupied by data associated with the set of backup copies of the selected file.

  • Publication number: 20070152902
Abstract: A broadband, high-gain, active antenna system is disclosed, which operates with a bi-directive reception pattern while in its standard configuration and with a directive reception pattern over several octaves of Radio Frequency (RF) spectrum when affixed with a tuned scatter-plate. As a standalone active antenna system the disclosed antenna probe element and the amplifier subassembly exhibit the bi-directional directive properties of a standard fixed length dipole, while the addition of a scatter-plate makes the antenna directive with separate frequency-dependant directive modes. The scatter-plate can be tuned such that these separate directive modes occur at convenient areas of the RF frequency spectrum. Other means of achieving directivity are disclosed using the antenna probe element and the amplifier subassembly.

  • Publication number: 20050243946
Abstract: Compensation methods and apparatus are disclosed for mitigating non-linear distortion of high power amplifiers used in communication transmitters, based on the minimization of the symbol error, in particular, for communication systems transmitting data embedded in existing co-channel signals. To overcome the difficulty of constructing pre-distortion mapping from the symbol error, an adaptive algorithm is disclosed to update compensation parameters for pre-distortion mapping. Another method exploits a test signal interval in the co-channel signal. During a known constant co-channel signal, distortion is estimated as a complex number and used to construct compensation parameters. The latter is further expanded by employing the adaptive algorithm for the non-test signal intervals.

  • Publication number: 20050018765
Abstract: A decision feedback equalizer (DFE) architecture uses feedback samples that are over-sampled with respect to the symbol rate. On-baud feedback samples are quantized with a slicer, while off-baud samples are linear, IIR samples. • Patent number: 4241636
Abstract: An electronic musical instrument which has any desired compass of musical sounds and which produces justly intoned pitches based on any desired pitch or note and which is capable of changing at will during performance the basic pitch or the "do" (of do, re, me, etc.). The instrument has a single master oscillator having means for changing the pulse interval at will and during performance. The output of the oscillator is fed to a system of counters and gates, the output of which is a number of pulse trains which are related in frequency by ratios of small integers and which ratios are maintained unchanged regardless of the frequencies of the various outputs. The instrument includes a keycylinderin place of the usual keyboard and it has on its surface several helices of conductive contacts.
