Abstract: The invention relates to a dispersion of melanic pigments containing in a medium selected amongst: a) the straight or branched monoalcohols comprising at least 3 carbon atoms; the straight or branched polyols comprising at least 2 carbon atoms; the saturated or unsaturated cycloaliphatic alcohols comprising at least 6 carbon atoms; the aromatic alcohols comprising at least 6 carbon atoms; the C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 fatty acid esters and C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 alcohol esters or the C.sub.2 -C.sub.6 polyol esters; the C.sub.1 -C.sub.6 aliphatic acid esters or the C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 aromatic acid and fatty alcohol esters; the C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 fatty acid esters and the C.sub.8 -C.sub.22 fatty alcohol esters, the C.sub.6 -C.sub.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition comprises in solution in an appropriate vehicle at least one polymer having 50-100% of repeating units of the .beta.-alanine type having the formula ##STR1## and 0-50% of repeating units of the acrylamide type having the formula ##STR2## wherein R.sub.1 represents hydrogen or a member selected from the group consisting of ##STR3## (ii) --CH.sub.2 OH, (iii) --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --CH.sub.3 wherein n is 0 or a whole number from 1 to 11, ##STR4## wherein r' and r" each independently represent hydrogen or alkyl having 1-3 carbon atoms, (v) --CHOH--COOH, (vi) --CH.sub.2 --SO.sub.3 Na, ##STR5## wherein m ranges from 1 to 10, and R.sub.2 and R.sub.3 represent hydrogen or methyl.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition in the form of an aerosol spray for hair control contains a solvent; a film-forming tetrapolymer resulting from the copolymerization of (a) 5 to 10 wt. % acrylic acid, (b) 20 to 52 wt. % N,N-dimethylacrylamide, (c) 3 to 28 wt. % of N-tert-butylacrylamide, and (d) 20 to 45 wt. % ethyl methacrylate, the carboxylic acid functions of the tetrapolymer being at least partially neutralized with a mineral or organic base; and at least one non-halogen propellant gas. This spray provides excellent hair control, and the film-forming substance does not cause stickiness of the hair over time and is easily eliminated by washing with a shampoo.

Abstract: A one-step process for preparing cross-linked poly-.beta.-alanine as microspheres having narrow size distribution comprises polymerizing acrylamide with a polyfunctional compound copolymerizable with acrylamide (with the polyfunctional compound also acting as the cross-linking agent) in an organic solvent or a mixtured such solvents in the presence of an ionic polymerization initiator and a suspension agent. The resulting microspheres may be impregnated with a pharmaceutically or cosmetically active substance.

Abstract: This nitrocellulose-free varnish contains at least one resin in a solvent system for varnishes, and is characterized in that the said resin is a copolymer containing units resulting from the copolymerization:(1) of 20 to 70% of at least one alkyl acrylate or methacrylate of general formula: ##STR1## in which: R' denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical, andR denotes a saturated, linear or branched hydrocarbon chain containing from 1 to 6 carbon atoms, and(2) of 30 to 80% of at least one hydroxyalkyl acrylate or methacrylate of general formula: ##STR2## in which: R.sub.1 denotes a hydrogen atom or a methyl radical and R.sub.2 denotes a linear or branched hydrocarbon chain containing from 2 to 4 carbon atoms and 1 or 2 hydroxyl(s), it being understood that the said copolymer cannot contain more than 30% of units derived from the copolymerization of an alkyl acrylate and/or a hydroxyalkyl acrylate, the viscosity of the copolymer at a concentration of 28% in ethyl acetate at 25.degree. C. being higher than 0.

Abstract: An anhydrous cosmetic makeup composition for the lips and skin contains crosslinked poly .beta.-alanine microspheres impregnated with a polyhydric alcohol.

Abstract: A process for preparing crosslinked poly .beta.-alanine in the form of microspheres comprises (a) polymerizing acrylamide in a tert. butanol/toluene solvent mixture in the presence of a polymerization initiator and an octadecene-maleic anhydride copolymer as a suspension agent; (b) submitting the resulting suspension of poly .beta.-alanine to a crosslinking reaction using a dialdehyde as the crosslinking agent; and (c) isolating the crosslinked poly .beta.-alanine microspheres. These microspheres exhibit a low size dispersity.

Abstract: A means of reinforcing and/or mechanically deforming human hair, comprising a first stage in which the hair undergoes the action of a reducing agent so as to break the disulfide linkages of the keracystine to form thiol groups, followed by the application in a second stage of a modifying agent encouraging the establishment of new chemical linkages to the thiol groups, characterized in that the aforesaid modifying agent is a polyhaloacetylated polymer whose halogen atom is capable of reacting with thiol groups.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition for improving the suppleness of the skin or hair and for protecting the keratin of the skin or hair from degradation by atmospheric agents or light comprises in a cosmetic or dermatologic acceptable vehicle a saturated condensate resulting from the polyaddition of a bis-acrylamide and a sterically hindered primary diamine, the condensate being saturated by hydrogenation or by addition of a thiol or an amine on the double bonds of the acrylamide residue.

Abstract: A water insoluble crosslinked poly .beta.-alanine is prepared by crosslinking poly .beta.-alanine with a crosslinking agent selected from the group consisting of formaldehyde and a dialdehyde or by irradiation of said poly .beta.-alanine with Co.sup.60.

Abstract: A composition and process for setting hair comprises impregnating the hair with a composition containing in solution in a cosmetic vehicle at least one water-soluble polymer containing at least 5% of units having a primary amide function, a crosslinking agent and an acid catalyst. The hair is then placed on hair-setting rollers and dried by means of an external heat source. The hair rollers are then removed.

Abstract: Nail lacquer compositions comprising a polymer resin consisting essentially of units resulting from the copolymerization of:(1) 75 to 97% by weight of at least one monomer having the general formula: ##STR1## in which: R.sub.1 represents an hydrogen atom or a methyl radical, andR.sub.2 represents a linear alkyl radical or a branched radical having 1 to 18 carbon atoms, a mono or dihydroxy alkyl radical, the alkyl radical having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, a glycidyl radical or the radical --(CH.sub.2).sub.n --OR', wherein R' represents methyl or ethyl and n is 3 or 4, and(2) 3 to 25% by weight of at least one monomer selected from the group consisting of N-vinylsulfonamide, 4-styrenesulfonamide, acrylamide, methacrylamide, N-(N'N',3-dimethylaminopropyl) methacrylamide and N-(N'N',3-dimethylaminopropyl) acrylamide.

Abstract: A colored or colorless nail enamel consists essentially of at least one film forming agent, a resin and a solvent system. The enamel can also contain a plasticizing agent and/or a coloring agent. The resin is polytetrahydrofuran having the formula: HO--CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --CH.sub.2 --O].sub.n H wherein n is such that the average molecular mass is between 300 and 3,000,000.

Abstract: A cosmetic makeup composition contains in an appropriate cosmetically acceptable vehicle or carrier a colored pigment resulting from the salification reaction of a polymer having salified primary or secondary amine functions or quaternized tertiary amine functions and an acid dye, in free acid form or as a salt thereof, the acid dye being fixed on said polymer in an amount of at least 10 weight percent of the stoichiometric quantity.The compositions include lip rouges, cheek rouges, foundation creams and nail enamels.

Abstract: The present invention concerns new acid colorant and copolymer salts carrying tertiary amine functions, the process for preparing said salts, as well as the makeup compositions and in particular the lipsticks and nail varnishes containing as coloring substances the saits according to the invention.
