Abstract: An anti-solar polymer has in the macromolecular chain thereof at least one unit of the formula ##STR1## wherein F is a residue derived from an aromatic compound. The anti-solar polymer can also be one having in the macromolecular chain thereof at least one unit of the formula ##STR2## wherein F.sub.1 is ##STR3## These polymers have the ability to absorb wave lengths of light in the range of about 280-315 millimicrons. The polymers are employed in a cosmetic composition.

Abstract: New nail polish compositions including a resin, a plasticizer, a solvent system, a filming agent, and optionally colorants, wherein the resin is a copolymer of methyl methacrylate and hexyl methacrylate.

CH--O--R.sub.3 wherein R.sub.3 is linear or branched alkyl having 1-12 carbon atoms, a vinyl ester having a fatty chain and having the formula ##STR3## wherein R.sub.

Abstract: Terpolymer of crotonic acid, vinyl acetate and an allyl or methallyl ester having the formula ##STR1## wherein R' is hydrogen or CH.sub.3, R.sub.1 is a saturated hydrocarbon chain containing 1-6 carbon atoms and R.sub.2 is --CH.sub.3 or --CH(CH.sub.3).sub.2, with the proviso that the sum of the number of carbon atoms in R.sub.1 + R.sub.2 is equal to or less than 7. The terpolymer is employed with a cosmetic carrier or vehicle to provide a cosmetic composition for the hair, such as a hair lacquer or hair setting lotion, generally in amounts of about 1-4 weight percent of the composition.

Abstract: A cosmetic shampoo composition comprises in a carrier for application to the hair at least one detergent and at least one graft cationic copolymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and polyethylene glycol.

Abstract: A hair dye composition comprises in a cream or gel vehicle or support at least one oxidation dye and at least one graft cationic copolymer of N-vinylpyrrolidone, dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate and polyethylene glycol.

Abstract: A hair lacquer or hair setting lotion composition comprises in a cosmetic carrier or vehicle at least one bi- or tri-sequenced copolymer comprising at least one sequence (A) having the formula ##STR1## wherein Y is a saturated hydrocarbon chain containing 2-4 carbon atoms or a hydrocarbon chain containing 2-4 carbon atoms and interrupted by sulfur or oxygen, R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are alkyl containing 1-4 carbon atoms, n is 0 or 1 and HX is hydrochloric, hydrobromic, lactic or acetic acid, and at least one sequence (B) resulting from the anionic polymerization of a polymerizable monomer.

These copolymers are derived by copolymerizing:A. at least one cosmetic monomer;B. dimethylaminoethyl methacrylate;C. polyethylene glycol; andD. poly unsaturated polyunsaturated cross-linking agent.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition for use as a hair lacquer or hair-setting lotion contains an essentially homogeneous vinyl acetate/crotonic acid copolymer, the macromolecular chains of which contain essentially the same content of each of vinyl acetate and crotonic acid along the entire length thereof. The content of each of vinyl acetate and crotonic acid does not vary more than 2.5% by weight relative to the average content of each in essentially all of the macromolecular chains, along essentially the entire length of each of said chains.

Abstract: A cosmetic composition is provided which comprises at least one graft and cross-linked copolymer obtained by copolymerization of:A. at least one non-ionic monomer,B. at least one ionic monomer or N-vinyl pyrrolidone,C. polyethylene glycol, andD. a cross-linking agent selected from ethylene glycol dimethacrylate, diallyl o-, m- and p-phthalates, a divinylbenzene, tetrallyloxyethane and a polyallylsucrose possessing 2 to 5 allyl groups per mol of sucrose, and a cosmetically acceptable vehicle.Such compositions are particularly useful as hair lacquers and wavesetting lotions; they adhere well to the hair while giving a good glossy appearance. Certain of the copolymers are novel.
