  • Patent number: 6370314
Abstract: A magnetic recording and reproduction apparatus having a recording characteristic correction function corrects a recording characteristic according to characteristics of tape and head mechanism, to provide an optimal recording condition. The apparatus of the present invention records a test signal for measuring the characteristics of the tape and the head mechanism on tape, reproduces the recorded test signal, and then obtains a recording level at the time when reproduced output is maximized and a sideband level at the time when a ratio of a carrier component and a lower sideband component reaches a predetermined target value, respectively. Accordingly, an input video signal is modulated according to the obtained results. Thus, an effect is provided so that a signal can be recorded in an optimal recording condition irrespective of a deviation of the tape and the head.

  • Patent number: 6359845
Abstract: An optical pickup apparatus that is capable of recording and reproducing various types of optical discs having a recording format, such as a different substrate thickness, etc., without an additional aperture number control device. In the apparatus, at least two light sources generate a different wavelength of lights. A focusing optical system focuses a light from the light source onto the optical recording medium. A receiving optical system receives a light reflected from the recording medium. The focusing optical system is configured in such a manner to generate a predetermined range of aberration in a light spot formed on the optical medium by the lights from any one of the light sources. Since the apparatus can access recording media having a different recording format by using an optical system and an aberration optimized for a single optical recording medium without an additional aperture number control device, so that its configuration is simplified.

  • Publication number: 20020031326
Abstract: In a de-emphasis circuit designing method for minimizing the number of peripheral components of a video signal processing integrated circuit (IC), a circuit device for determining the level of a reproduced video signal of the de-emphasis circuit is included in the video signal processing IC. The number of components is reduced by designing all circuit elements of the circuit device for determining the level of the reproduced video signal of the de-emphasis circuit so that they are incorporated into the video signal processing IC at the time of design of the video signal processing IC, thereby reducing cost and reducing any deviation in the playback (PB) level due to external component deviation.

  • Publication number: 20020028059
Abstract: In a method for designing an envelope detecting circuit for a video signal processing integrated circuit (IC), the number of peripheral components of the video signal processing IC is minimized by incorporating, into the video signal processing IC, a circuit device for detecting the envelope of an FM video signal and for controlling the envelope level. According to the IC designing method, the number of components can be reduced by designing all circuit elements constituting a circuit which detects the envelope of the FM video signal and which controls envelope level so that they are incorporated into the video signal processing IC at the time of designing the video signal processing IC. As a result, cost is reduced and, since mode control signal lines are reduced, the corresponding terminals of the microprocessor can be used for another purpose, thereby increasing the operating efficiency of the microprocessor.

  • Publication number: 20010052944
Abstract: A video signal processing apparatus and a design method therefor are provided, and more particularly, a design method for a video signal processing integrated circuit (IC), in which to solve the shortage of pin ports caused by designing a video signal processor in a single IC, a vertical synchronization signal is output and a quasi synchronization signal is input through a single pin port, and an IC and a video signal processing apparatus thereby are provided. According to the design method, by designing a vertical synchronization dividing circuit inside an IC without increasing the number of pins in a video signal processing IC, the present invention can reduce the number of components, material costs, and save the PCB space. In addition, by integrating the vertical synchronization dividing circuit inside an IC, the component difference of a discrete device can be reduced, which enhances IC performance.

  • Patent number: 6173110
Abstract: A magnetic recording and reproduction apparatus corrects recording characteristics of a video signal. The apparatus comprises a luminance test signal generator for generating a frequency-modulated luminance test signal using a predetermined voltage, and a chroma test signal generator for generating a chroma test signal having a lower frequency. A recording level adjuster respectively adjusts levels of the frequency-modulated luminance test signal and the chroma test signal based on corresponding luminance and chroma recording levels. A recording unit mixes signals level-adjusted by the recording level adjuster to record a mixed test signal on a magnetic tape. A readout and preamplifying unit reads out the mixed test signal from the magnetic tape and preamplifies the read-out signal.

  • Patent number: 6078720
Abstract: An apparatus for picking up a video signal recorded on a recording medium and copying a frequency modulated signal without demodulation. In the apparatus, a high-pass filter separates a high-frequency modulated luminance signal from the modulated video signal by setting a cutoff frequency higher than a frequency band of a low frequency converted color signal. A limiter receives an output signal of the high-pass filter and limits variation of the amplitude of the output of the high-pass filter to a predetermined level. A first feature compensator receives the output signal of the limiter and corrects high frequency characteristics of the signal. A low-pass filter separates a low frequency converted color signal and a low-frequency modulated luminance signal, each having a frequency that is lower than the cutoff frequency, from the modulated video signal. A gain controller receives an output signal of the low-pass filter and maintains the received signal at a constant level.

  • Patent number: 5946442
Abstract: A video tape copier, particularly a high-speed video tape copier for rapidly copying a video signal from a video tape onto another video tape. The high-speed video tape copier plays back a video tape at an N-tuple speed, band-passes the frequencies of video and audio signals having N-tuple frequencies, respectively, removes noise from the signal, and records the noise-free reproduced signal on another video tape at an N-tuple speed. Further, the video signal can be monitored regardless of whether the video signal is being accurately copied by dividing the frequency of the video signal reproduced at the N-tuple speed by N and displaying the frequency-divided signal as a normal speed video signal on a monitor.

  • Patent number: 5920676
Abstract: A reproduction control apparatus and method in a video cassette recorder (VCR) reduces for reducing noise generated during a high-speed search of a picture in the VCR . In the reproduction control method in a forward high-search mode, it is determined whether or not a command for the forward high-speed search mode is input by a user. Then, if a user inputs a command for the forward high-speed search mode, the capstan motor is controlled to transfer the tape at a predetermined multiple speed. Next, the drum motor is controlled to increase the rotation speed of the drum to maintain a traveling angle which a composite vector of the rotation velocity vector of the drum and the tape velocity vector makes with the tape velocity vector at the traveling angle in a normal playback mode. Therefore, the tape traveling angle is maintained at that in the normal playback mode, and a clean picture having no noise bar can be obtained.
