Patent number: 6200153Abstract: A socket connector includes a pair of spaced locking blocks fixed to a circuit board. A plurality of contact elements is mounted to the circuit board between the locking blocks. A cover is fixed to the locking blocks and spaced from the circuit board for movably receiving a slide plate therebetween. The cover retains a central processing unit (CPU) module thereon and defines a plurality of holes corresponding to the contact elements through which pins of the CPU module extend. The slide plate defines slots corresponding to the contact elements and the holes of the cover for partially receiving the pins and the contact elements therein whereby when the slide plate is moved to a predetermined position, electrical connection is established between each contact element and the corresponding pin of the CPU module for connecting the CPU module to the circuit board.Type: GrantFiled: July 15, 1999Date of Patent: March 13, 2001Assignee: Hon Hai Precision Ind. Patent number: 6186816Abstract: An electrical connector for electrically connecting a chip module to a circuit board comprises a dielectric base, a dielectric cover, a number of contacts and a positioning member. Each contact comprises a contact portion received in the base and a joining portion extending into the positioning member. The positioning member has a number of guiding holes and a number of conical receiving recesses having solder balls deposited therein. The guiding holes of the positioning member snugly receive the joining portions of the corresponding contacts thereby preventing molten solder from flowing into the base. The positioning member may be made of the same dielectric material as the mating circuit board thereby eliminating different thermal expansion between top and bottom surfaces of the solder balls due to a difference in coefficients of thermal expansion between the electrical connector and the mating circuit board.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1999Date of Patent: February 13, 2001Assignee: Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co., Ltd.Inventors: Sidney Lu, Wen-Chun Pei, Ming-Lun Szu

Patent number: 6179623Abstract: An electrical socket comprises a dielectric base defining a plurality of receiving chambers therein, a number of terminals having a mating section and a soldering section, and a bottom board attached to the base. A dielectric cover is mounted to the base or is an integral part of the base for positioning pins of a mating integrated circuit (IC) chip. The bottom board is made of the same material as a mating circuit board. Thus, when the socket is soldered to the mating circuit board, misalignment between the terminals and the corresponding soldering pads of the mating circuit board is prevented due to identical coefficients of thermal expansion of the circuit board and the bottom board. The base forms a stand-off on a joining surface proximate the mating circuit board for distancing the bottom board from the base.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1999Date of Patent: January 30, 2001Assignee: Hon Hai Precision Ind. Co., Ltd.Inventor: Wen-Chun Pei

Patent number: 6146178Abstract: A cam mechanism for driving a zero-insertion-force connector between open and closed positions is disclosed. The connector include a base for being mounted to a mother board. A cover is slidably mounted on the base. The cam mechanism includes a cam having a head rotatably mounted on the base, a body located between the base and the cover and a bottom face supported by the cover. First and second depressions are formed on the body of the cam and angularly spaced from each other 90 degrees. A positioning arm is integrally formed with the base. The positioning arm has a bulge formed at its free end. When the cam is rotated to a position wherein the bulge is fittingly received in the first depression, the cam pushes the cover relative to the base to reach the open position. When the cam is rotated to a position wherein the bulge is fittingly received in the second depression, the cam pushes the cover relative to the base to reach the closed position.Type: GrantFiled: September 24, 1999Date of Patent: November 14, 2000Assignee: Hon Hai Precision Ind. Patent number: 6116936Abstract: An electrical connector assembly comprises a cover, a base having a number of conductive terminals received therein, and a cam mechanism for driving the cover along the base. The cover provides a number of standoffs for distancing a mounting face of the base from a printed circuit board. The cam mechanism comprises a cam including a lower column and an upper column stacked together with axes thereof being offset from each other a predetermined distance, a locking spring, and an opening and a recess respectively defined in the cover and the base for receiving the cam and the spring. The lower column defines a pair of notches spanning an arc of approximately 90 degrees around a periphery thereof. When the cam rotates in the recess of the base, the spring moves between the pair of notches and the upper column moves in the opening of the cover to drive the cover along the base.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 1999Date of Patent: September 12, 2000Assignee: Hon Hai Precision Ind. Patent number: 6077099Abstract: An electrical connector includes a base having a top face in which contacts are retained. A cover defining a plurality of through holes for receiving pins of a central processing unit is mounted to the base thereby defining an interior space therebetween for accommodating a slide plate. The slide plate has a conductive member corresponding to each of the contacts and is movable to electrically engage each contact with the corresponding pin of the central processing unit. Two elongate recesses are defined in the top face of the cover. Each elongate recess has two end walls forming two opposite inclined faces. Two elongate projections are formed on a bottom face of the cover and are received in the recesses of the base.
