  • Patent number: 6469191
Abstract: A process for the production of an aromatic carbonate is disclosed. Accordingly, an aromatic hydroxy compound is reacted with carbon monoxide and oxygen in the presence of a platinum group metal catalyst, a co-catalyst, a base, and optionally a quaternary salt as well as an inert organic solvent. The reaction is carried out under conditions whereby the inert organic solvent forms an azeotrope with the water arising during the reaction. The azeotrope is then removed from the reaction mixture.

  • Patent number: 6437166
Abstract: A process for the work up of reaction mixtures containing diaryl carbonate, aromatic hydroxy compound, water, base and quaternary salt, which are obtained in the preparation of diaryl carbonates by direct carbonylation of aromatic hydroxy compounds, is described. In the process of the present invention an adduct of diaryl carbonate and aromatic hydroxy compound is crystallized from the reaction mixture. A distillate comprising aromatic hydroxy compound is removed from the liquid phase either prior to or after crystallization of the adduct of diaryl carbonate and aromatic hydroxy compound. The liquid phase remaining after the crystallization and distillation steps may be recycled, without further work up, back to the direct carbonylation process step by which the diaryl carbonate is initially prepared.

  • Patent number: 6414255
Abstract: A switch device for switching an electrical connection between two connection parts is disclosed. Conventional switch devices comprise a contact lever having a switch contact, the flow of current taking place by way of the contact lever when the switch device is closed. To achieve a rapid switching process, a low mass inertia of the contact lever is required. However, this generally leads to a lower current capacity. By arranging the lever-side switch contact on a separate electrical connection device, it becomes possible to separate the function of current conduction from the function of contact guidance. Since the contact lever therefore no longer performs any current-conducting function, it may be optimized in mechanical respects exclusively.

  • Publication number: 20020069181
Abstract: Purchase of information items from a merchant over the Internet or other network is implemented so as to ensure that the merchant is unable to identify the particular information item(s) purchased by a user. The user when considering purchase of a given information item is permitted to access a corresponding signed ciphertext of that item. The signed ciphertext in an illustrative embodiment includes a first ciphertext portion in the form of a symmetric key encrypted using a public key associated with the merchant, a second ciphertext portion corresponding to the information item encrypted using the symmetric key, an unencrypted description of the information item, and a tag corresponding to a signature. The user requests purchase of the information item by sending a blinded version of the first ciphertext portion to a payment server along with an appropriate payment. The payment server decrypts the blinded version of the first ciphertext portion and returns the resulting symmetric key to the user.

  • Publication number: 20020002587
Abstract: In a method and the arrangement for determining projection data for a projection of a spatially variable area, change data are determined in a first computing unit, where the change data describe a change in the spatially variable area from a starting state to an end state. The change data are transmitted to a second computing unit and to a third computing unit, which are each connected to the first computing unit. First current projection data for a first projection of the spatially variable area are determined in the second computing unit using the change data and first previously stored projection data. Second current projection data for a second projection of the spatially variable area are determined in the third computing unit using the change data and second previously stored projection data.

  • Patent number: 6296086
Abstract: The present invention discloses a brake device for the wheels of an automotive vehicle which includes a wheel-sided brake drum and a vehicle-sided mud guard that engages in a non-contact manner with a circumferential web into an annular recess in the end surface of the brake drum opposite the mud guard in order to provide a labyrinth-type seal. In conventional brake devices, the mud guard along with a welded annular web typically has a two-part design. In contrast thereto, the present invention proposes that the mud guard be punched and deep drawn from sheet metal and that the circumferential web be integrally designed with the mud guard by noncutting shaping.

  • Patent number: 6211119
Abstract: The invention relates to multiphase lubricant concentrates with improved properties for use in aqueous fluids for geological exploration by drilling which contain organic lubricating components which are solid and/or liquid at room temperature (O phase) together with emulsifiers finely dispersed in a continuous aqueous phase (W phase). These concentrates are characterized in that the system of O phase/W phase and emulsifiers has a phase inversion temperature (PIT) above room temperature and has been produced by heating the multiphase system to temperatures equal to or above the PIT and subsequent cooling to temperatures below the PIT. The present invention also relates to the use of the multiphase lubricant concentrates as an additive in water-based fluids for use in geological exploration by drilling and for the subsequent treatment of the resulting boreholes.
