  • Publication number: 20100181436
Abstract: An air intake for a supersonic air-breathing flight vehicle introduces or injects fluid in order to create predetermined regions of separated flow and an attendant fluid shear layer. This shear layer forms an aerodynamic boundary for the capture flow with a profile determined and optimised by appropriate injection of fluid. The aerodynamic boundary so generated replaces mechanically moveable solid surfaces used to vary the geometry of prior-art intakes. Use of an introduced or injected fluid can provide an advantage of a variable geometry, but with reduced weight and reduced mechanical complexity. In some embodiments, the injection of fluid has the effect of re-energising any ingested boundary layer, thus obviating the conventional requirement for a bleed system to provide boundary layer control.

  • Patent number: 6738757
Abstract: Comprising an engine and intelligent agents, the invented system monitors a data network for important events selected by the user and upon detection puts the information into action. Examples of actions that can be initiated include: updating ODBC compliant databases, sending E-mail (with file attachments) to a customer, partner or employee, merging data with and printing RTF documents, invoking VBScript or Jscript, running a program, executing SQL statements or stored procedures. The invented system incorporates a data monitor, process scheduler, and an event logging system. It establishes a snapshot of a data network, without replication, and compares this snapshot with the data viewed subsequently to determine if any data in the table being monitored has been changed, deleted, or added.

  • Patent number: 6633327
Abstract: An environmental monitoring system for a hazardous work area, such as a nuclear power plant, which monitors the radiation exposure of personnel working in the nuclear power plant and overlays a visual representation of the exposure data onto a video display of the location the personnel are working in. The apparatus includes a video source, such as a plurality of PTZ cameras, for providing video image signals of the work area. In the preferred embodiment, individual radiation exposure sensors provide signals representative of the radiation received by each worker in the work area. A computer, outside of the work area, is connected to the sensors for converting the sensor signals to a visual video representation of the sensor measurements. A gen/lock overlay unit is connected to the computer for combining the video image signals and the visual video representation of the sensor measurements wherein the visual video representations are overlaid onto the video images of the work area.
