  • Publication number: 20110144992
Abstract: Described is a technology for performing unsupervised learning using global features extracted from unlabeled examples. The unsupervised learning process may be used to train a log-linear model, such as for use in morphological segmentation of words. For example, segmentations of the examples are sampled based upon the global features to produce a segmented corpus and log-linear model, which are then iteratively reprocessed to produce a final segmented corpus and a log-linear model.

  • Patent number: 7756277
Abstract: A distributed stereo system includes two (or more) speakers; a source of audio signals; an amplifier in the same room as the speakers that drives the speakers; and a mains-operated electrical power supply to power the amplifier. The amplifier is remote from the signal source and power supply and is connected to the signal source and power supply by means of a category 5, four-pair twisted cable or similar, which provides right and left channel audio signals from the signal source to the amplifier and DC power from the power supply to the amplifier. A distributed intercom system features a bi-directional intercom hub; a mains-operated power supply; and two or more remote modules each having an amplifier and speaker. The modules are connected to the hub via category 5 cable or similar, which carries audio signals between the hub and the modules and power from the supply to the modules.

  • Patent number: 7734454
Abstract: A technique for consistently simulating at two different complexities of simulation is described. This technique is particularly relevant to simulation of a creature-like autonomous agent (biological or artificial or hybrid). The model, in the particular case a model of the creature, comprises at least two portions. The first portion contains functions used in both of the different complexities of simulation. The second portion comprises two alternative versions, a first version for use in one complexity of simulation, and a second version for use in the other complexity of simulation.

  • Patent number: 7697720
Abstract: One embodiment of a method of tracking a plurality of targets can be broadly summarized by the following steps: capturing a plurality of images of a plurality of targets with a plurality of image capture devices; generating a target observation for each target, said target observation including at least a visual signature of the target and a time value; partitioning target observations according to similarities in their visual signatures; and producing primary tracks from the partitioned target observations, wherein each primary track includes ordered sequences of observation events having similarities in their visual signatures. Other methods and systems are also provided.

  • Publication number: 20100079602
Abstract: A method is described for positioning an image sensor at a point of best focus for a lens. The lens has an optical axis and the image sensor is moved to a plurality of positions along the optical axis. The image sensor captures an image of a target image at each of the plurality of positions through the lens. A measure of blur in the image captured is derived at each of the plurality of positions from pixel data output from the image sensor. A relationship is derived between blur and position of the image sensor along the optical axis. The image sensor is then moved to a position on the optical axis that the relationship indicates as the point of best focus where the image sensor is fixedly secured relative to the lens.

  • Patent number: 7668318
Abstract: This invention concerns a distributed stereo audio system. Distributed stereo audio systems are used to provide stereo sound to several rooms or areas from a single source of signal. The system includes two or more speakers for the broadcast of stereo audio signals; a source of stereo audio signals; a stereo amplifier to amplify stereo audio signals and drive the speakers; and a mains operated electrical power supply to provide power to the amplifier. The amplifier is located in the same room as the speakers, and remote from the signal source and power supply. The amplifier is connected to the signal source and power supply by means of a category 5 four pair twisted cable which provides, in respective twisted pairs, right channel audio signals from the signal source to the amplifier, left channel audio from the signal source to the amplifier, DC power from the power supply to the amplifier, and control signals from the amplifier to the signal source.

  • Publication number: 20090106103
Abstract: A Click Conversion Score (CCS) is a tool to provide a new “Ad-Exchange” for connecting Publishers and Advertisers in the Pay-per-Click advertising market. The CCS provides checks and balances into the Ad-Exchange by assessing the quality of traffic each Publisher provides Advertisers using an adaptive, multi-dimensional profiling system. This assessment is directly used in the charges billed the Advertisers. The score is adaptive, and highly dependent on the conversion feedback loop provided by Advertisers. A CCS system scores each Click and each resulting Conversion an Advertiser receives from the Ad-Exchange. In the preferred implementation, the score reflects a ratio of the measured conversion rate for a Publisher's traffic with the “expected” conversion rate based upon Advertisers histories.
