  • Publication number: 20140260592
Abstract: A member is moved within a well bore in a plurality of cycles, each cycle including holding the member in slips, releasing the slips, moving the member within the well bore and applying the slips. The hook load is measured at multiple points during each of these cycles and the plurality of measured values are used to identify data indicative of the forces on the member within the well bore.

  • Publication number: 20140246238
Abstract: A well advisor system for monitoring and managing well drilling and production operations. The system may be accessed through one or more workstations, or other computing devices, which may be located at a well site or remotely. The system is in communication with and receives input from various sensors. It collects real-time sensor data sampled during operations at the well site, which may include drilling operations, running casing or tubular goods, completion operations, or the like. The system processes the data, and provides nearly instantaneous numerical and visual feedback through a variety of graphical user interfaces (“GUIs”), which are presented in the form of operation-specific consoles.

  • Patent number: 8747025
Abstract: A method for laying cable from a vessel at a near shore location in shallow water to shore. The cable on the vessel is wrapped around a modified roller quadrant on the vessel. The roller quadrant is moved from the vessel into the water. A pulling device is attached by a line to the roller quadrant. The pulling device is used to pull the roller quadrant and cable toward shore. The pulling device may be positioned in the water and moved to shore as required. The pulling device may also be initially positioned on shore. The roller quadrant may include a skid and buoyancy modules to reduce the pulling force required to move the roller quadrant and lay the cable to shore.

  • Patent number: 8739118
Abstract: Facilitating translation of data between object oriented programs and database storage tables. A method includes receiving user input from a user. The user input includes a plurality of parts. Each part includes a specification of a source (such as a type source), optionally a filter, and a projection. Each projection assigns values to table columns. Based on the plurality of parts received, the method includes generating one or more views. The one or more views describe relationships between model extents and database tables.

  • Patent number: 8733188
Abstract: An apparatus for mounting a pipe sensor is disclosed. The apparatus comprises a pipe and a sensor. The pipe has a pipe wall with a section removed defining a passage through the pipe wall. The sensor has a collar, is disposed in the passage, and is exposed to the interior of the pipe. In one embodiment, the sensor can be welded to the pipe wall. In another embodiment, an insert can be disposed in the passage between the sensor and the pipe wall, with a locking nut engaged with the insert and pressing upon the collar to fasten the sensor to the insert.

  • Publication number: 20140136459
Abstract: A system for machine cognition includes Kanban cells (KC), Kanban cell neurons (KCN), and Kanban cell neuron networks (KCNN). The KC is an asynchronous AND-OR gate without feedback that is self-timing by the input data to process until input is equal to output. Input is a four-valued logic (4 VL) based on the set {contradiction, true, false, tautology} of four-valued bit code (4 vbc) where contradiction is equivalent to null. Access to a sparsely filled look up table (LUT) is minimized in hardware with a 2-bit value per logical signal.

  • Patent number: 8672055
Abstract: Methods and systems for drilling to a target location include a control system that receives an input comprising a planned drilling path to a target location and determines a projected location of a bottom hole assembly of a drilling system. The projected location of the bottom hole assembly is compared to the planned drilling path to determine a deviation amount. A modified drilling path is created to the target location as selected based on the amount of deviation from the planned drilling path, and drilling rig control signals that steer the bottom hole assembly of the drilling system to the target location along the modified drilling path are generated.

  • Patent number: 8674568
Abstract: A machine includes a high voltage element and an enclosure surrounding the high voltage element. The enclosure includes a first insulating insert disposed at least partially within a first wall and being electrically non-conductive and surrounding a first conductive insert and an enclosure cover formed at least partially of an electrically non-conducting substrate and having a first opening formed therein sized to allow a first fastener or an extension of the first conductive insert to pass through it. Removal of the enclosure cover causes the high high-voltage element to cease operating.

  • Publication number: 20140009013
Abstract: An electric machine is disclosed having a stator and a rotor, the stator comprising one or more windings that “turn” between passes through the stator. The turn portions of the windings are cast within a heat-conductive material such as aluminum that conducts heat away from the turn portions. The casting also defines a cavity for the flow of a heat-carrying fluid (such as water) to remove heat more efficiently from the turn portions. In some embodiments, the windings are electrically insulated (for example, using a ceramic insulator) before the casting.

  • Patent number: 8578356
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for implementing a programmable chip using a high-level language. Code sequences such as high-level language software critical loops are converted into read/transform/write (RXW) processes with buffer based flow control between the processes. Having separate read and write processes allows an arbitrary number of sequential reads/writes to occur in any order, subject to buffer size, allowing bursting/sequential transactions that are more efficient than random accesses.
