  • Patent number: 10387467
Abstract: An approach is provided that analyzes electronic documents, each of which was written by an author. Time-based personality profiles are retrieved corresponding to the author. A date of each of the electronic documents is compared to a set of dates corresponding to different personality insights of the author over time. The approach selects one of the author's personality insights based on the comparison. A sentiment score corresponding to each of the electronic documents is adjusted based on the selected personality insight that corresponds to each of the electronic documents.

  • Patent number: 10387793
Abstract: Mechanisms are provided for training and operating a Question and Answer (QA) system pipeline. A corpus of information is received which comprises historical data to which one or more filter criteria are applied to extract filtered historical data relevant to a training objective for training the QA system pipeline. Attribute data, action data, and temporal characteristic data are captured from the filtered historical data. An answer key entry is automatically generated in an automatically generated training answer key data structure based on the attribute data, action data, and temporal characteristic data. The correct answer associated with the answer key entry is an action specified by the action data. The temporal characteristic data provides a historical context for the answer key entry. The QA system pipeline is trained using the automatically generated training answer key data structure.

  • Publication number: 20190251452
Abstract: Mechanisms for evaluating an evidential statement in a corpus of evidence are provided. An evidential statement is received for determining a level of confidence in a hypothetical ontological link of an ontology. A source of the evidential statement is identified and a grading of the source of the evidential statement is determined based on a source grading measurement value indicative of a degree of reliability and credibility of the source. An indication of trustworthiness of the evidential statement is generated based on the source grading measurement value. A representation of the indication of trustworthiness of the evidential statement is output in association with the evidential statement.

  • Patent number: 10380257
Abstract: According to one exemplary embodiment, a method for generating an answer in a question answering system is provided. The method may include receiving a question. The method may also include identifying a candidate answer from a corpus. The method may then include determining a plurality of sentences based on the identified candidate answer. The method may further include calculating a similarity value for each sentence within the plurality of sentences based on comparing the plurality of sentences to the candidate answer and the received question. The method may also include identifying at least one sentence within the plurality of sentences with a calculated similarity value that exceeds a threshold value. The method may then include generating the answer based on the candidate answer and the identified at least one sentence.

  • Patent number: 10380251
Abstract: A mechanism is provided in a data processing system comprising at least one processor and at least one memory, the at least one memory comprising instructions executed by the at least one processor to cause the at least one processor to implement a cognitive natural language processing system. The cognitive natural language processing (NLP) system analyzes a portion of natural language text to identify an attribute specified in the natural language text. The cognitive NLP system analyzes the portion of natural language text to determine whether a known negation trigger is present in the natural language text in association with the attribute. In response to determining that the natural language text does not contain a known negation trigger in association with the attribute, the cognitive NLP system determines whether the attribute is negated based on instances of the attribute in other natural language content similar to the natural language text.

  • Publication number: 20190243895
Abstract: Embodiments relate to an intelligent computer platform to provide a contextual analogy response. The aspect of providing a contextual analogy response includes denoting an analogy phrase within a communication. An anaphora within the analogy phrase is detected and a set of sentences are parsed into grammatical components wherein the grammatical type for each parsed component is identified. A sentence is created with the detected anaphora and an action term from the analogy phrase. The set of sentences and the analogy phrase are matched with the identified components that are assigned to a solved analogy association. A related contextual response is attached to the solved analogy association to generate the outputted analogy response.

  • Publication number: 20190236308
Abstract: Minimizing data security risks may be provided. A number and type of confidential data in a computing environment may be determined to generate a metric for the type of confidential data in the computing environment. The metric of the type of confidential data may be compared to a predetermined metric for the type. Responsive to determining the metric for the type of confidential data exceeding a predetermined metric for the type, an action may be performed to prevent more entries of the type of confidential data in the computing environment.

  • Publication number: 20190236131
Abstract: A method and system for determining a location of origin and a time period in which a document was written is disclosed. A text is received and a set of linguistic characteristics for the text are identified. A set of possible locations and time periods for the text are determined based on the set of linguistic characteristics. A set of reference documents are used to determine a proximity rating for the text based upon a determination of how close the text is to the reference documents. The potential locations and time periods are ranked and returned for presentation.

  • Patent number: 10366707
Abstract: Mechanisms, in a natural language processing (NLP) system are provided. The NLP system receives a plurality of communications associated with a communication system, over a predetermined time period, from a plurality of end user devices. The NLP system identifies, for each communication in the plurality of communications, a user submitting the communication to thereby generate a set of users comprising a plurality of users associated with the plurality of communications. The NLP system retrieves a user model for each user in the set of users, which specifies at least one attribute of a corresponding user. The NLP system generates an aggregate user model that aggregates the at least one attribute of each user in the set of users together to generate an aggregate representation of the attributes of the plurality of users in the set of users. The NLP system performs a cognitive operation based on the aggregate user model.

  • Patent number: 10366161
Abstract: The program directs a computer processor to resolve an anaphor in electronic natural language text. The program detects a plurality of entities and an anaphor in a span of parsed natural language text comprising one or more sentences, and extracts pairs of related entities based on domain knowledge. The program constructs a set of tuples, wherein each tuple is a data type comprising an anaphor, an antecedent entity (AE) appearing before the anaphor in the span of parsed natural language text, and an entity (E) appearing after the anaphor in the span of parsed natural language text, wherein the anaphor refers to the AE and relates the AE to the E. The program resolves the anaphor by determining which entity in the plurality of entities the anaphor references, using the constructed set of tuples, and selecting an AE among one or more candidate AEs.

  • Patent number: 10360219
Abstract: An approach is provided to identify permanence data corresponding to terms included in a corpus of a question answering (QA) system. Based on the identified permanence, a time-based confidence of each of the terms is established. Terms are identified as a plurality of candidate answers to a question posed to the QA system. Each of the plurality of candidate answers are scored with the scoring being at least partially based on the time-based confidence established for each of the terms.

  • Patent number: 10360301
Abstract: Mechanisms receive natural language content and analyze the natural language content to generate a parse tree data structure. The mechanisms process the parse tree data structure to identify one or more instances of candidate hypothetical spans in the natural language content. Hypothetical spans are terms or phrases indicative of a hypothetical statement. The mechanisms calculate, for each candidate hypothetical span, a confidence score value indicative of a confidence that the candidate hypothetical span is an actual hypothetical span based on a personalized hypothetical dictionary data structure associated with a source of the natural language content. The mechanisms perform an operation based on the natural language content.
