  • Patent number: 9144936
Abstract: A linear actuator includes a plastic housing having an integral flange for mounting the actuator. A stator assembly, having windings, is disposed in the plastic housing. A rotor assembly, having a permanent magnet, is mounted for rotation with respect to the stator assembly such that when the windings are energized, a magnetic field is generated to cause rotation of the rotor assembly. A shaft is restricted from rotation and is associated with the rotor assembly such that rotation of the rotor assembly causes linear movement of the shaft. Connector structure houses leads for powering the windings. The plastic housing has an annular end that captures an annular surface of the connector structure to couple the plastic housing to the connector structure.

  • Patent number: 9102087
Abstract: Novel cellular solids and foams from amorphous materials with a glass transition temperature (Tg) and methods of forming such materials are provided. In particular, foams are formed by expanding or compressing hollow spheres made of a high strength amorphous material, which is defined as a material having high strength characteristics, but also possessing a glass transition within a confined space. Using such a method, it has been unexpectedly found that it is possible to make cellular structures, including both open and closed cell foams, with customizable properties from materials that have been inaccessible with conventional methods. Moreover, based on calculations high specific strengths and stiffnesses are expected.

  • Publication number: 20150177338
Abstract: A method of measuring flux density and run out to accommodate rotors of different diameters, evaluate intrinsic properties of magnet material and the magnetization process. Circular run out measurement capability is also used to evaluate bearing journal “ovality.” The method includes the use of a scan tool, or a DLA Rotor Flux Density Scan Fixture, which evaluates the electromagnetic field strength (gauss), combined with surface run out and presents the data in a scalable pictorial format. The scan tool includes a probe which measures a magnetic field strength and circular run out of the perimeter of the magnet. Simultaneously, a non-contact measurement sensor is used to measure the rotor surface for subtle variations. The resulting sine wave gauss data and the surface dimension data are manipulated into a scalable “radar” plot. The radar plot correlates magnetic pole field strength and surface circular run out variation to the index position.

  • Publication number: 20150141223
Abstract: An exercise/training device (10), which is particularly suitable for providing a workout for surfers but which also can be used as a general exercise device includes a platform (14) on which a user may kneel, sit, lie, stand or the like in use. The platform (14) is mounted on a support frame (12), the support frame including legs for supporting the top of the frame above ground level. A rod (18) or other similar member is mounted on the support frame and extends away from the platform. At least one resistance means (20) such as a pulley or the like, and a handle (120) is provided on the rod, which can be grasped by a user and pulled against a resistance. The platform (14) is mounted on the support frame by means of a mounting (16) which allows the platform (14) to tilt, particularly laterally from side to side about an axis which is parallel or co-axial to the axis of the rod. The mounting (16) may also allow longitudinal tilting, although typically this will be more limited than the lateral tilting.

  • Publication number: 20150083322
Abstract: A method provides a plastic housing for an actuator. The actuator has a stator assembly coupled to a connector structure and a rotor assembly that rotates with respect to the stator assembly. The method inserts the stator assembly with connector structure connected thereto into an interior of the plastic housing until a surface of the stator assembly engages a surface of the plastic housing, with an annular end of the plastic housing extending beyond an adjacent annular surface of the connector structure. The annular end of the housing is heated and deformed to capture the annular surface of the connector structure, thereby coupling the plastic housing to the connector structure.

  • Publication number: 20150082136
Abstract: A method for displaying electronic text and synchronizing the playback of a soundtrack for the electronic text. The soundtrack contains multiple audio regions configured for playback during corresponding text regions of the electronic text. Playback of the audio regions of the soundtrack over an audio output system is based on a reading position counter indicative of the user's estimate reading position, and which increments based on a user reading speed variable. The user reading speed variable is updated by processing eye tracking signals from an eye tracker to determine the user's reading scan rate.

  • Publication number: 20150039991
Abstract: A method of creating, with a hardware system, a synchronised soundtrack for an item of electronic media content in which the playback of the soundtrack is synchronised with the user's reading speed. The method generates a graphical user interface (GUI) on a display comprising a reading display pane displaying at least a portion of the electronic media content in a reading format and a linear progression display pane displaying a linear progression of a range of reading position identifiers corresponding to at least a portion of the electronic media content displayed on the first display pane. User interaction with a GUI of the interface is used to configure audio data for each new audio region of the soundtrack. Both the reading display pane and linear progression display pane are simultaneously updated with graphical representations of the newly configured audio region showing an association between the audio region and the corresponding text region in the electronic media content to which it relates.

  • Publication number: 20140336821
Abstract: A pool or spa system includes networked pool or spa devices that can be dynamically configured with network address by a controller. The controller can transmit a device discovery request on a network and can receive a discovery response from pool or spa devices that require a network address. The system determines and assigns the network addresses for the pool or spa devices based on unique device identifiers associated with the responding pool or spa devices. The network addresses assigned to the pool or spa device are transmitted to the pool or spa device to be used by the pool or spa devices to communicate with the controller over the network. The system can be used to discover and assign addresses to various types of pool or spa devices, such as pumps, underwater lights, chlorinators, water feature controllers, remote controllers, and/or other types of devices.
