Patent number: 11976287Abstract: The present invention relates generally to the field of recombinant fatty acid synthesis, particularly in transgenic plants. The application describes genes involved in fatty acid synthesis and provides methods and vectors for the manipulation of fatty acid composition of plant oils. In particular, the invention provides constructs for achieving the integration of multiple heterologous genes involved in fatty acid synthesis into the plant genome, such that the resulting plants produce altered levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids. Also described are methods for enhancing the expression of fatty acid biosynthesis enzymes by co-expressing a silencing suppressor within the plant storage organ.Type: GrantFiled: April 28, 2020Date of Patent: May 7, 2024Assignees: COMMONWEALTH SCIENTIFIC AND INDUSTRIAL RESEARCH ORGANISATION, GRAINS RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT CORPORATIONInventors: James Robertson Petrie, Anne Maree Mackenzie, Qing Liu, Pushkar Shrestha, Peter David Nichols, Susan Irene Ellis Blackburn, Maged Peter Mansour, Stanley Suresh Robert, Dion Matthew Frederick Frampton, Xue-Rong Zhou, Surinder Pal Singh, Craig Christopher Wood

Patent number: 11883915Abstract: A rotating power connection for connecting an electrical supply power cable to an electric welding torch body is provided. In the rotating power connection, the mechanical load is carried by steel bearings, and the electric load is carried by multi-contact, spring loaded fins made out of highly conductive materials or coatings. In some examples, a rotating power connector is affixed to a torch before the power connection to a wire feeder. The rotating power connector advantageously allows for rotation of the welding torch relative to the unicable while providing continual electrical connection at the high current levels employed in welding applications.Type: GrantFiled: August 25, 2021Date of Patent: January 30, 2024Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventors: Tiejun Ma, Romeo Cossette, Craig Matthew Bondy

Publication number: 20230271242Abstract: A method of manufacturing a complex-shaped metal part, including the steps of applying a metallic sheath around a sheet metal workpiece and applying an electric current through the workpiece in the metallic sheath to heat the workpiece. The method also includes shaping the workpiece in the metallic sheath into a complex-shaped metal part while it is being heated. The shaping can be performed between two ceramic dies or using other techniques for forming complex shapes and curvatures into the workpiece. The method then may include cooling the complex-shaped metal part and removing the metallic sheath from the complex-shaped metal part. This method can allow reactive and refractory material to be safely heated without oxidation when heating/forming in air when the workpiece is sealed within a sacrificial stainless steel or nickel alloy envelope to protect the enclosed workpiece.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2022Publication date: August 31, 2023Applicant: Spirit AeroSystems, Inc.Inventors: James Michael Wagner, Jr., Theodore Joseph Eilert, Rahbar Nasserrafi, Craig Matthew Clasper, Gerald Eugene Hicks, Jr.

Publication number: 20230201950Abstract: A method of bonding two or more metallic components into a single piece. The bonding surfaces of the metallic components are protected from reaction with the environment. A force is applied to the metallic components to push the bonding surfaces together. Simultaneous with applying the force, an electric current is passed through the bonding surfaces to joule heat and weld the bonding surfaces together to form the single piece. The bonding surfaces may be protected by plating with a noble metal, applying a coating, shielding with a noble gas, or placing into a vacuum. A press may be used to apply the force. The force and the electric current may be sufficient to push out metal around the joint of the bonding surfaces, and at least one of the bonding surfaces may be drafted to facilitate pushing out the metal. The electric current may be pulsed to induce electroplasticity.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 7, 2022Publication date: June 29, 2023Applicant: Spirit AeroSystems, Inc.Inventors: James Michael Wagner, Rahbar Nasserrafi, Paul Ray Toivonen, Heath Edward Misak, Craig Matthew Clasper

Patent number: 11597027Abstract: Some examples of the present disclosure relate to welding torches having a thermal insulating plate (400). The thermal insulating plate is comprised of a thermally insulating material, and is positioned between a front housing (302) and a drive gearbox (324) of the welding torch. The front housing (302) is connected to a gooseneck that conducts electrical energy to a torch tip (i.e. front end) of the welding torch. The drive gearbox (324) includes a gear assembly configured to drive a drive roll that moves a wire electrode through the welding torch (e.g. toward the torch tip of the torch). The thermal insulating plate (400) acts as a heat dam to decrease and/or reduce thermal energy transfer from the torch tip of the welding torch (e.g. via the front housing) towards the rear of the welding torch (e.g. through the drive gearbox), where the thermal energy may heat the welding torch handle and/or damage some of the more expensive and/or sensitive components in the handle (e.g. a motor of the drive gearbox).Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 2018Date of Patent: March 7, 2023Assignee: ILLINOIS TOOL WORKS INC.Inventor: Craig Matthew Bondy
