Publication number: 20120176207Abstract: Method and apparatus for lowering capacitively-transduced resonator impedance within micromechanical resonator devices. Fabrication limits exist on how small the gap spacing can be made between a resonator and the associated input and output electrodes in response to etching processes. The present invention teaches a resonator device in which these gaps are then fully, or more preferably partially filled with a dielectric material to reduce the gap distance. A reduction of the gap distance substantially lowers the motional resistance of the micromechanical resonator device and thus the capacitively-transduced resonator impedance. Micromechanical resonator devices according to the invention can be utilized in a wide range of UHF devices, including integration within ultra-stable oscillators, RF filtering devices, radar systems, and communication systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2010Publication date: July 12, 2012Applicant: THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIAInventors: Clark Tu-Cuong Nguyen, Li-Wen Hung

Publication number: 20120016531Abstract: A method for power quality protection includes measurement of electrical and nonelectrical parameters, calculation of additional electrical and nonelectrical parameters, comparison of the value of the calculated parameters with maximum allowed values from a power quality perspective, activation of protection mechanisms for transitioning to a safe mode or for isolation from the bus. The systems and methods may prevent equipment failures when out of the spec power quality is present in the distribution bus and may protect the distribution bus from imposing power quality problems due to equipment failures. Because most of the sensors in the systems of the present invention are already used for other control and protection purposes, there may be no reliability degradation. Most of the calculations and the control logic may be performed digitally for improved reliability and flexibility to modify algorithms.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 5, 2011Publication date: January 19, 2012Applicant: HONEYWELL INTERNATIONAL INC.Inventors: EVGENI GANEV, CUONG NGUYEN, WILLIAM WARR

Publication number: 20110201388Abstract: A method, apparatus and computer-readable medium is disclosed for prominent selection cues for icons. When an icon is in focus, and after expiration of a predetermined period of time, the icon can be displayed more prominently, e.g., display a larger representation of the icon, thereby increasing the icon's visibility. The icon can be displayed more prominently after the icon remains in focus for a predetermined amount of time. This functionality can be advantageous in applications having limited display area, such as on portable media players and mobile devices. Accordingly, the smaller display area of such devices is used more effectively by using prominent selection cues for navigating and displaying information.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 15, 2010Publication date: August 18, 2011Applicant: RESEARCH IN MOTION LIMITEDInventors: Michael George Langlois, Arun Kumar, Hung Cuong Nguyen, Andrew Robert Patterson

Patent number: 7970873Abstract: Information handling system network addresses are managed to support a consistent MAC address for iSCSI and fiber channel host bus adapter. For example, a management controller retrieves a MAC address from persistent memory, such as a network location, and assigns the MAC address to a non-persistent memory of a predetermined information handling system network component so that the MAC address remains consistent even if the network component is replaced. For example, an offload engine that supports network communications with iSCSI receives a MAC address from a network location and applies the MAC address for use by a host bus adapter. Alternatively, an offload engine supports Fiber Channel with World Wide Name or World Wide Identifier address assignments.Type: GrantFiled: December 2, 2008Date of Patent: June 28, 2011Assignee: Dell Products L.P.Inventors: Cuong Nguyen, Michael A. Publication number: 20110067984Abstract: A modally driven oscillating element periodically contacts one of more electrical contacts, thereby acting as a switch, otherwise known as a resonant switch, or “resoswitch”, with very high Q's, typically above 10000 in air, and higher in vacuum. Due to periodic constrained contacting of the contacts, the bandwidth of the switch is greatly improved. One or more oscillating elements may be vibrationally interconnected with conductive or nonconductive coupling elements, whereby increased bandwidths of such an overall switching system may be achieved. Using the resoswitch, power amplifiers and converters more closely approaching ideal may be implemented. Integrated circuit fabrication techniques may construct the resoswitch with other integrated CMOS elements for highly compact switching devices. Through introduction of specific geometries within the oscillating elements, displacement gains may be made where modal deflections are greatly increased, thereby reducing device drive voltages to 2.5 V or lower.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 9, 2010Publication date: March 24, 2011Applicant: THE REGENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIAInventors: Clark Tu-Cuong Nguyen, Yang Lin, Wei-Chang Li, Bongsang Kim
