  • Patent number: 10546738
Abstract: An ion transfer device includes a tube, a resistive layer on an inside surface of the tube, and a dielectric layer on the resistive layer. The device defines a conduit providing a transfer path for gas and ions. The conduit is surrounded by the dielectric layer. The dielectric layer protects the resistive layer from the chemical environment in the conduit, while being thin enough to allow charges to pass through the dielectric layer and be dissipated by the resistive layer.

  • Patent number: 10412906
Abstract: Sap-collecting devices, systems and methods for sap-producing saplings are disclosed. The saplings each have at least one stem, which is cut to form a top end at a reasonable height above ground. The sap-collecting system includes a sap-collecting device that fits over the top end and forms a vacuum-tight seal with the stem. The sap-collecting device includes an interior and an access port open to the interior. The access port can be connected to a line system. A vacuum system is operably connected to the line system and forms a vacuum within the sap-collecting device. This serves to draw the sap from the top end of the sapling, through the sap-collecting device, through the line system and to a collecting tank. A plantation growth, management, and sap-collecting system that comprises the sap-collecting system and a stand of saplings is also disclosed.

  • Publication number: 20190212057
Abstract: A cooler insert for placement into a portable hard cooler or ice chest for separating sandwiches, lunch meats, cheese, vegetables, and the like, and drinks from the materials used to cool these items, is described. Many commercially available portable coolers have rectangular-shaped cooling volumes with at least two of the opposing walls forming a horizontal ledge inside the cooling volume parallel to and below the opening thereof upon which the present cooler insert is supported. The present cooler insert includes three adjacent chambers, a first chamber for containing food items to be cooled, a second chamber for containing clean ice for use for cooling drinks; and a third chamber, having cylindrically-shaped compartments tapered toward the bottom, for holding cans or bottles. Bottom portions of the first two chambers may be formed using aluminum or other conductive metal plates covered with plastic, or using uncoated metal plates for improving conduction to the cooler insert from the cooler.

  • Publication number: 20180348849
Abstract: This application relates to techniques that adjust the sleep states of a computing device based on proximity detection and predicted user activity. Proximity detection procedures can be used to determine a proximity between the computing device and a remote computing device coupled to the user. Based on these proximity detection procedures, the computing device can either correspondingly increase or decrease the amount power supplied to the various components during either a low-power sleep state or a high-power sleep state. Additionally, historical user activity data gathered on the computing device can be used to predict when the user will likely use the computing device. Based on the gathered historical user activity, deep sleep signals and light sleep signals can be issued at a time when the computing device is placed within a sleep state which can cause it to immediately enter either a low-power sleep state or a high-power sleep state.

  • Patent number: 9729946
Abstract: Consistent with the present disclosure, an optical switch is provided that switches multiple wavelength division multiplexed (WDM) optical signals. Each of the WDM signals includes optical signals having the same wavelengths. The WDM signals are supplied to optical splitters, which supply power split portions of the WDM signals to corresponding optical gates. Groups of the optical gates are associated with a corresponding switching block, which may include a cyclical arrayed waveguide grating (AWG), and the optical gates within each group are controlled so that one gate passes a received WDM signal portion while the remaining optical gates in the group are in a blocking configuration. As a result, the WDM portion received by the non-blocking gate is demultiplexed in the switching block and each of the wavelength components that constitute the selected WDM portion are supplied to corresponding outputs within the switching block.

  • Publication number: 20160188167
Abstract: A computer based, digital image management system that visually presents an entire archive in a manner that facilitates easy, non-textual, searching for specific images. In one embodiment, the system includes two elements: a file management methodology and a graphical user interface. The file management method utilizes reference files that contain multiple properties (metadata) relating to each image file. Image files are grouped into a multiplicity of collections based on user-defined associations of the properties. The graphical user interface visually represents the groups of image files on 2-dimensional or 3-dimensional graphic metaphors. In addition, the graphical interface uses multiple display variables such as icons, mnemonics, size, movement, color, and luminance to signify relationships between groups, and/or communicate key properties of individual or groups of images.
