  • Patent number: 6062360
Abstract: A synchronized gear shift mechanism is provided for a marine propulsion system. Using a hub and a sleeve that are axially movable relative to an output shaft but rotationally fixed to the shaft and to each other, the gear shift mechanism uses associated friction surfaces to bring the output shaft up to a speed that is synchronism with the selected forward or reverse gear prior to mating associated gear tooth surfaces together to transmit torque from an input shaft to an output shaft. The friction surfaces on the forward and reverse gears can be replaceable to facilitate repair after the friction surfaces experience wear.

  • Patent number: 6050867
Abstract: A drain system is provided for a marine vessel in which three types of drain operations can be performed at one common location near the transom of the marine vessel. A multiple conduit structure is provided with a plurality of fluid passages extending at least partially through its structure. A first fluid passage allows the bilge of the boat to be drained. A second fluid passage allows multiple locations on the engine to be drained through a common port. A second sealing plug is provided to close the second passageway that prevents fluid communication between the various fluid conduits used to drain the cooling water of the engine. A third fluid passage is provided through the multiple conduit structure to allow lubricating oil to be drained from the engine.

  • Patent number: 5707263
Abstract: A system for a trimable marine stem drive shifts the trimable range on a conventional hydraulic trim system. The system includes an enlarged cylinder anchor pin hole in the drive shaft housing, an anchor pin smaller in size than the enlarged anchor pin hole located in the drive shaft housing, and a movable trim adjustment insert that is inserted into the enlarged anchor pin hole to secure the anchor pin in a fixed position within the enlarged hole. It is preferred that the enlarged anchor pin hole be a substantially horizontal elongated hole, and that the trim adjustment insert be placed rearward of the anchor pin to position the anchor pin in a forward position, or forward of the anchor pin to locate the anchor pin in a rearward position. The invention shifts the trimable range of the drive, while maintaining vibration isolation characteristics available in conventional hydraulic trim systems.

  • Patent number: 5613084
Abstract: A filter selector generates a filter address value to select one of a number of frequency characteristics of a filter to resample a first data signal from a first segment of data in order to generate second sampled data signal in a second segment of data. The filter selector includes an adder which adds a resampling factor to a previous address value to generate a current address value if the previous address value is less than a comparator value and which subtracts the comparator value from the previous address value to generate the current address value if the previous address value is greater than or equal to the comparator value. The current address value is shifted by n bits, where n is an integer, to generate the filter address value.

  • Patent number: 5331346
Abstract: A sample rate conversion system converts from an input sample rate stream having a predetermined input sample rate to an output sample stream having a predetermined output sample rate by interpolating output samples from the input samples using first and second approximate sample rate ratios. The system includes circuitry which selects a sequence of interpolation filters from among a set of filters, the sequences being defined by one of these approximate ratios, and circuitry which monitors the magnitude of the accumulated error introduced by the approximation. When this accumulated error becomes greater than a threshold, the system changes to use a further sequence of interpolation filters based on the other approximate ratio. The accumulated error changes in a positive sense with each successive sample while one of the two approximate ratios is used. The accumulated error changes in a negative sense with each successive sample while the other of the two approximate ratios is used.

  • Patent number: 5284463
Abstract: The apparatus is configured as a dumbbell having an elongated hollow lifting bar with a pivotable handle for activating a wedge-shaped cam element mounted to the bar. The cam element longitudinally forces two rods carried in a passageway of the bar to move pin operator elements of each weight. Opposed sides of a weight respectively include a depression or cavity and a laterally extending boss with a boss of one weight fitting within a depression of an adjacent weight. Each boss carries a pair of diametrically opposed inwardly biased pins that are moved outwardly by the element to engage a grooved surface in the depression on an adjacent weight to secure the weights together. Oversized bar alignment rings with essentially identical grooved surfaces are engaged by the pins of a first weight in a series. A support base having a pair of convergent channels to accommodate the alignment rings guides the dumbbell into its resting place.

  • Patent number: 5123885
Abstract: An improved freeweight locking mechanism employs a spring-biased lever having a locking end which blocks movement of the freeweight securing member from a first position whereby a weight is secured to a lifting bar and an operating end, which when contacted by the support frame for the weights, will cause the locking end to move a sufficient distance to allow movement of the weight-securing member to the release position. The member has a rib which defines two surfaces or shoulders to allow the member to be locked in either the weight-securing or weight-releasing positions. The movement of a weight away from the support frame allows spring bias to force the locking end of the lever into the locked position and this blocks accidental movement of the member from its weight-securing position.

  • Patent number: 4982957
Abstract: Apparatus for improved alignment of the components of a freeweight barbell system include a weight tray employing spacing members for lateral support of the weights when stored upright thereon. The bar includes sleeves having shoulders to further align the weights when mounted on the bar. Guide channels include rearward downwardly disposed ramps to minimize contact of the weights with the tray surface until the bar has been moved to the rearward position. Interior weight support channels minimize bending of a weighted bar to ease movement and prevent lateral misalignment of the weights. Two alternate retaining clips are provided to improve the securing of the weights which themselves have been reformed to also improve support, guidance and alignment of the weights whether stored or secured to the bar.

  • Patent number: 4953855
Abstract: A split phase cam-controlled weight lifting exercise machine employs two independently selectable weight stacks connected by cable and pulley assemblies to a respective phase of the cam. Exercise arms are pivotally mounted for pivotal movement of the cams to which are connected the cables in a manner to provide for a different moment arm for one loaded weight than for the other during a part of the exercise. The weight loading is selected by a pin that fits through the weights and a guide rod mounted so as to not contact the weights and cause friction that degrades the benefits of the split cam operation. The guide rod is mounted on bearings that limit movement to the vertical direction. The weights include integral interlocks to align them vertically in a stack.
