  • Patent number: 7856289
Abstract: A vending machine that dispenses items for use with a power source. Power control circuitry is electrically coupled between the power source and one or more vending components of the vending machine. A controller is adapted to manage the supply of electrical power to such components by transitioning between a normal-operation mode and at least one power-conserving mode. An audio signal detector is provided that generates at least one dispensing event signal that represents the occurrence of one or more sound-based dispensing events. The controller transitions between the power-conserving mode(s) and the normal-operation mode based upon the at least one dispensing event signal from the audio signal detector, and possibly other data signals supplied to the controller.

  • Patent number: 7821629
Abstract: A device is disclosed for determining the possible presence of contamination of a container with a decorative exterior, for instance provided with a labelling and/or relief patterns, for liquids such as a drink such as beer or a soft drink. The device includes an irradiating device for irradiating the container with at least a first wavelength (for instance visible light, infrared, ultraviolet, x-radiation), and a recording device for recording a radiation sample of radiation after it has had interaction with at least a part of the container. Further, an orientation determining device is included for determining the orientation of the container relative to the recording device, along with a comparing device for comparing the sample to a reference matching the orientation of the container relative to the recording device during the recording to determine the possible presence of contamination.

  • Publication number: 20100022332
Abstract: Methods and systems for fitting golfers with a set of golf clubs are provided. Golf club sets are designed for golfers within narrow height ranges, such as approximately three or six inches. Each set of golf clubs includes golf clubs with shaft lengths adjusted for golfers within the narrow height range. Golf club heads are also customized for the golfer and are selected based on the height, strength, and swing speed of the golfer. Customized golf club sets are then labeled with identifiers that convey relevant information about the golf clubs to golfers. Such information can include the height of the golfers for whom the sets are intended, the length of the clubs in the set and, optionally, the weight of golf club heads.

  • Patent number: 7644552
Abstract: A space-dividing wall panel has glass panels mounted on opposite faces of the wall panel to permit viewing therethrough. Each glass panel is defined by a sheet of glass and edge rails extending about the periphery of the glass. The edge rails include fixing channels on opposite sides thereof which are press-fit onto respective edges of the glass without the use of a resilient gasket within the fixing channel.

  • Publication number: 20090262129
Abstract: In a display system, a color gamut of the displayed images is extended by adding one or more primary colors lying outside a tristimulus color space triangle to a Red, Green, Blue (RGB) system, modulating light emitted by both light sources lying inside the tristimulus color space triangle and light sources lying outside the tristimulus color space triangle, and adding a non-tristimulus vertex to construct an extended-gamut polygon. The display system adds one or more primary colors to the RGB system, which lie outside the tristimulus color space triangle but within a CIE (International Commission on Illumination) color space.

  • Publication number: 20090142020
Abstract: The application of optical micro structures improve the quality of light available to the viewer of an optical display system, or any display which works on the concept of moving one surface into direct contact or close proximity of a light guide to extract light through frustrated total internal reflection. Certain ones of the microstructures can act to assist in overcoming suction between the surface and the light guide.

  • Patent number: 7486854
Abstract: The application of microstructures which improve the quality of light available to the viewer of an optical display system, or any display which works on the concept of moving one surface into direct contact or close proximity of a light guide to extract light through frustrated total internal reflection. Optical microstructures are introduced on one or both of the surfaces of the active layer to enhance its performance. Since the active layer has both an input and an output function, means for enhancing both are presented. The input function to the active layer occurs on the internal surface, so this is where the present invention adds a collector-coupler, a means for facilitating the migration of light from the waveguide into the active layer.

  • Publication number: 20080291438
Abstract: A method for detecting one or more foreign substances in one or more containers filled with liquid, comprising of: transporting the containers filled with liquid in a substantially straight line at relatively high speed in a production environment; —illuminating each container with content with one or more fixedly disposed light sources; and —inspecting the container with content from preferably two or more different orientations using two or more cameras, wherein cameras and lighting are disposed substantially fixedly relative to each other, while the cameras and light sources are mutually connected such that in a short time two or more images of a container filled with liquid can be recorded with mutually differing illumination and/or angle of incidence; —comparing the foreign substances in the two or more images; and —wherein a container filled with liquid is rejected on the basis of the probability distribution obtained from the comparisons, wherein above a determined probability it is concluded that the

  • Patent number: 7286907
Abstract: A refrigerated appliance that dispenses items for use with a power source and includes a cooling system. Power control circuitry is electrically coupled between the power source and components (for example, a compressor and one or more circulating fans of the cooling system) of the appliance. A controller, which is operably coupled to the power control circuitry, is adapted to manage the supply of electrical power to such components by intelligently transitioning between a normal-operation mode and at least one power-conserving mode. To achieve efficient power conservation, an audio signal detector is provided that generates at least one dispensing event signal that represents the occurrence of one or more sound-based dispensing events. The controller automatically transitions between the power-conserving mode(s) and the normal-operation mode based upon at least one dispensing event data signal supplied to the controller by the audio signal detector, and possibly other data signals supplied to the controller.

  • Patent number: 7042618
Abstract: A circuit for implementing a registration-free, contiguous conductive plane. A circuit may include a plurality of conductive structures in a first plane. The circuit may further include a contiguous conductive equipotential surface in a second plane parallel to the first plane. The circuit may further include activation means configured to adjust an electric field between the first and second planes thereby activating one or more structures in the first plane by increasing a potential difference between the first and second planes to a threshold level deemed to constitute an active state. The circuit may further include deactivation means configured to adjust the electric field between the first and second planes thereby deactivating one or more structures in the first plane by decreasing the potential difference between the first and second planes below a threshold level deemed to constitute a deactivation state.
