  • Publication number: 20050028039
Abstract: A method and apparatus for coordinating dynamic memory page deallocation with a redundant bit line steering mechanism are provided. With the method and apparatus, memory scrubbing and redundant bit line steering operations are performed in parallel with handling of notifications of runtime correctable errors. When a correctable error is encountered during runtime, and the correctable error is determined to be persistent, then dynamic memory page deallocation is requested of a hypervisor. The determination of persistence is based on a history CE table that is populated by the operation of the memory scrubbing and redundant bit line steering mechanism of a service processor. Thus, only those correctable errors that persist for longer than one memory scrubbing cycle are subject to memory page deallocation.

  • Patent number: 6724867
Abstract: The system comprises an off-premises voice or fax mail system and an on-premises CPE device that can periodically interrogate the telephone line to monitor for signals indicating that a voice or fax message has been received at the off-premises message system. The on-premises CPE device contains, or is connectable to, an incoming message storage means, an automatic dialing means, a message counter means, and a means for establishing an off-hook/on-hook condition with the telephone line. When a call comes in while the telephone line is busy, the call is directed to an off-premises message center where a message is stored. Then, the central office of the telephone network generates a special signal such as a stutter dial tone to be transmitted to the called party location upon the next off-hook condition after the previous call has been completed.

  • Patent number: 6498847
Abstract: An improved account access system and device in which a portable electronic card may be loaded into a combined programming and printing system to be programmed with predetermined signals and imprinted with associated variable data. The predetermined and programmed signals may be representative of telephone numbers, account authorization numbers, or other data. The associated variable information to be printed may be textual such as name, account number or telephone number data or graphical, such as graphic designs or barcode images. The variable information may be printed or affixed to the portable electronic system using a wide variety of processes adapted to the needs of the end user. An improved assembly design for the portable electronic system and improved programming and imprinting system are particularly adapted to accommodate high volume production of many devices with different programming and imprinting requirements. Additional new programming techniques are also described.

  • Patent number: 6427064
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described for the communication of data which is maintained in a database within a memory of a paging receiver. The data maintained in these fields may be utilized during page requests to provide possibly useful information to the page-receiving communicant. The data is communicated via one or more alternative techniques described herein.

  • Patent number: 6339639
Abstract: An enhanced telephony call waiting feature and apparatus is provided wherein identifying information related to a third party wishing to converse with a first party already communicating with a second party is provided to the first party during a mute condition in a manner that minimizes the time period of the mute condition. The method is fully compatible with existing services while allowing for new services. The method comprises the steps of the local switching office sending a call waiting tone having predetermined characteristics to the first party and its apparatus responding thereto by generating an acknowledgment signal. The apparatus then initiates a mute condition simultaneous with the ACK signal generation, or in response to detection of a carrier signal, or at some other time after exchange of the call waiting tone and/or the acknowledgment signal has occurred.

  • Patent number: 6278862
Abstract: A method and apparatus is described for enhancing the communication of data in an alphanumeric paging network. In accordance with the present invention, caller-identification information is automatically transmitted through a telephone network to a central office of a alphanumeric paging network when a page-originating communicant engages the network. The caller-identification information preferably includes numeric data which identifies the telephone number of the particular telephone unit utilized by the page-originating communicant to engage the alphanumeric paging network, and alphanumeric text which identifies the entity associated in the telephone directory with that particular telephone number. This information may be utilized in an automated fashion to reduce the required interaction between the alphanumeric paging network and the page-originating communicant. In particular it is helpful in minimizing the amount of human interaction required.
