The cartridge includes a locking mechanism for locking the telescoping cylinder to restrict its movement and a lever mechanism for releasing the cylinder from the locked position so that a drop is released from the dispenser. The housing includes a finger for engaging the lower eyelid and exposing the conjunctival cul-de-sac.

The apparatus includes a special nozzle assembly which precludes reentry of medicament expelled from the nozzle to prevent commingling of the medicaments. In this way, dosages of two or more medicaments may be simultaneously delivered to an eye without the need for creating a stable premixture of the medicaments.

The displacement rod is engageable with a flexible vial supported within the body portion of the inner housing member. The displacement rod flexes the vial inwardly to dispense medicament therefrom into an eye.

Abstract: An ocular self-treatment apparatus and self-treatment method for simplifying and improving the ease of ocular self-treatment. The apparatus is formed of a frame to be worn by the patient. The frame supports one or two light deviation apparatus. These apparatus deviate the visual access of the patient. The frame also supports one or two dispensers of ocular treatment material. A patient rotates his eye upwards and the light deviation apparatus allows him to observe the lower ocular area. The patient can then evert his lower eyelid and apply ocular treatment material to the cul-de-suc of the conjunctiva.

Abstract: An occular treatment apparatus for applying liquid medicament from a reservoir is provided. The apparatus includes a tubular housing with a first open end adapted to conform to the shape of the facial area surrounding the eye socket. The housing is constructed and arranged to receive, hold and position a reservoir containing the liquid medicament. A sighting opening is included on the housing to properly orient the eye and distract the user from the drops of liquid medicament to be introduced into the eye. An eyelid displacement mechanism is supported on the first open end of the housing at a position diametrically opposed to the sighting opening. The displacement mechanism is adapted to evert the lower eyelid and expose the cul de sac.
